Chapter 42 - TEOT 42

(Aurora)

We drove back home in silence. I didn't realize when I fell asleep, but when I opened my eyes, I found myself in Adrian's arms.

He carried me in a bridal style, heading for the entrance door. I shut my eyes so he wouldn't notice I was awake.

At last, we arrived at the bedroom. He laid me on the bed, like a gentleman he was, and tucked me into the blanket.

He placed Adrianna in my arms. I felt the bed dip beside me–obviously, he was sitting next to me.

My heart melted when he planted a kiss on my forehead.

"Goodnight, my last true love," he whispered, and something warm fell on my cheeks–a drop of tears.

Adrian Garcia was crying in my presence.

He switched off the lamplight, then he began walking towards the door.

Lastly, he switched off the main room light, and left.

"Goodnight, too," I replied, when he was gone. I hugged Adrianna to my chest, holding back my tears.

I forced myself back to sleep, trying to suppress my emotions.

The next morning, I woke up to tons of stick notes on the wall. I was still sleepy, but I managed to sit up.

I began reading them, one after the other.

•The world's cutest is finally awake (chuckles). Good morning, my favorite ex:)

•There's a spare toothbrush in the bathroom, a towel, new sets of underwear and a pair of flipflop.

•You can wear any of my shirts and pants in the closet. They won't look bad on you;)

•I hope you have a great day.

~Adrian.

He must have come in while I was asleep. I smiled at the thought.

I stood up from the bed and drew the curtains open. The golden ray of the daylight penetrated through the glass walls, brightening the room.

I listened to the melodious  chirping of the birds at the window side, admiring the beautiful view of the city.

-sighs-

How could a mother possibly forget her own family?

I could imagine how Stacey was feeling, right now. I had been away for two nights and didn't even remember to check on her.

Gush, I was the worst mother and big sister ever. I just hoped she was coping well with Annabel. I missed those two so much.

I traced the sound of my ringing phone to the bedside drawer. The caller's ID displayed Crazy Ass Bestie.

It was a facetime call, so I arranged my messy hair and answered the call.

She was wearing a pink pyjamas, having pancakes for breakfast in a bedroom background.

A smile plastered on my face, then I waved at the camera.

"Hey, Relia. Good morning," I greeted.

"Aurora!!! Good morning, best girl. I'm really sorry for not texting you when I arrived. It slipped off my mind. I think I need a medical checkup–"

I couldn't believe she was talking with food in her mouth.

I interrupted. "Wait, why? Are you feeling sick?"

"No. You know I'm too forgetful this days, and I might be suffering from a disease."

I smacked my head in disbelief, rolling my eyes. "Oh, my God."

"She needs a brain check-up," someone shouted in the background.

"Shut up, Mason!" she yelled, throwing him a pillow. I couldn't help, but laugh at their cuteness.

"I'm sorry about that. So, how's your morning going?" she asked.

"Well, my day just started–"

She shook her head. "How could you be waking up at nine o'clock? You're becoming lazy! Anyways, I've got great news for you."

I jumped out of the bed, grinning. "What? Did Mason propose to you, last night?"

"She broke my heart," I heard Mason respond.

"That's a lie. Uh, nothing like that happened. This is about you–"

"Has Stacey started talking, again?" I asked, hoping for a positive response.

"Nah. It's about you and Adrian," she replied.

"Me? And him? What the heck is this about?"

Aurelia smiled. "I explained everything to Mason and you know he's a renowned lawyer in New York. So, he is the right fit for this job."

"I can't still understand anything, Relia. Just go straight to the point."

"What she was trying to say is that we can help you get back Adrian as a team," Mason rephrased.

Tears stung my eyes. I was dumbfounded, not knowing if to believe them.

"How–? That's not possible. The chance of us even getting back in our next lives is zero. I have lost him for a lifetime."

"Trust me, we'll do anything to see you happy, again," Aurelia gave her assurance.

"He's getting married soon, and I, we can't do anything about it," I explained. Maybe they could reason from my perspective.

"Shh. Text me your address. Mason and I, we're coming over in an hour."

"Okay–"

There was a knock at the door, interrupting the call.

"Come in, please."

The door opened halfway and I looked up at the figure. I was expecting to see Clara, but it turned out she wasn't the one.

I gasped. "Adrian?"

I thought he left after dropping me off.

He gave a small smile. "Hi. Please, come downstairs. Your breakfast is getting cold."

"Thank you. I will be there," I replied, and he closed the door.

"Is Adrian there with you?" Aurelia asked.

"Yes. I swear, I didn't know," I answered, still in shock.

"No problem. Make sure he doesn't leave the house–"

My brows scrunched up. "But why?"

"He's part of our plan. So?"

I shrugged. "Okay. See you soon."

"Bye!" she waved her hand, and disconnected the call.

I sent her my live location and threw my phone on the bed, then left for the bathroom.

Many thoughts pondered on my mind. I had no idea what they were up to.
