(Adrian)
"This place is beautiful. I love it," Kendall said, admiring the decorations.
She was wearing a sleeveless velvet midi gown, exposing her sexy thighs and spotless skin, with black strapped heels.
Hotter than ever.
"I know, right?" I asked, pulling out a seat for her. She sat down and placed her black purse on the table.
"Mhm. So, why did you ask me to come here? Are you done ghosting me?" she bit her lips, making me notice the red color sitting pretty on her lips.
I shuddered at the thought of kissing those tempting lips.
She was good at seducing, but I wouldn't fall for her trap. It'd ruin everything.
So, I lifted my gaze to meet her eyes. "No, I wasn't. Things came up, unexpected and I had to sacrifice all my time. That's why I'm making up for our lost time. Forgive me, please."
It wasn't a lie though. I had to monitor Aurora's health and place her on a good diet.
"It's okay," she said.
"Straight to the main point of our date. Actually, I called you here to fix a date for our wedding and start planning together."
"Oh, ride on."
"Let's not delay our wedding. I can't wait much longer."
She chuckled. "I can't either. But are you kidding?"
"Of course not. It's your dream wedding. So, two weeks from two months?" I asked.
"Yes, yes, yes. I'm so fucking happy!" she squealed, doing a girly dance on her chair by swaying her hands in the air.
I faked a cough to get her attention.
"Don't be over the moon yet. Remember, we made a deal about my parents. If you fail to hand them over within the next twenty-four hours, then it's fine…" I paused.
"Don't interrupt until I'm done talking," I warned before I continued.
"I will prove to you that I'm the best at playing mind games. I'll make you regret messing with the wrong person, and that's me," I briefed.
"Sure, you're going to get your dream wedding, but I promise, it's going to be your worst nightmare. Rather I am. Trust me, these aren't empty threats."
"What are you insinuating?" she sat upright, placing her hands on the table.
I thought of a way to instill fear in her body, and came up with something.
"Imagine the headlines if I decide to walk out on you on the altar, in front of our guests–including celebrities, my business partners, well-known businessmen and women around the world."
I smirked.
"You love fame, right? You also like being the center of attraction, too? Then we'd be over the news, just the exact way you tried to humiliate Aurora Garcia," I threatened.
Her eyes widened as I completed my last statement. For her not to object or scold me, it meant she knew the truth and was hiding it on purpose.
Mason was right, after all.
I squinted my eyes, moving closer. "Is there something you aren't telling me, Kendall?" I asked.
Her gaze fell to the table. "I don't know what you're talking about!" she shouted.
"Calm down, girl. I'm not accusing you, am I?"
She crossed her arms. "So, are you done talking?"
"I suppose. Go on with whatever you have to say or any confession," I urged her.
"Well, I don't have anything to say to you. I want to leave, right now," she got on her feet, but I managed to block her way.
"Unfortunately, you can't. I already booked a presidential VIP suite for us. So, we're spending the night here, and together."
"What the heck?!" I heard her murmur, but pretended I didn't. "I think I'll pass," she said, outrightly.
We sat down back.
"I thought you wanted this. Why are you acting different all of a sudden?"
"Different? No, you are, and it's crazy. You always find a way to get rid of me, why now? I think you should call Aurora instead, since you know the truth–"
"What truth?" I asked.
She raised a brow. "You know, so why are you still asking?"
"Stop asking foolish questions and tell me the truth!" I demanded.
"The divorce papers, they are f…fa…fake," she stuttered, and I flashed a mischievous grin on my face.
She just made a confession.
"If you guys are meant to be, then I don't want to ruin your perfect lives. You were right when you said I didn't know anything about family bonds and love. Right now, I feel stupid and guilty for forcing you to accept me into your life, so I suggest you should call off our wedding. We are never going to work out. And your parents…" her voice trailed off, and she placed her hands on mine, rubbing my knuckles.
Why did she stop?
"Sorry, I don't want to bore you with my long talks. Let's drink up and call it a night. But before we do so, I want to beg for your forgiveness."
"Okay?" I asked.
"I know I've hurt you and your family in ways I can't imagine, and saying sorry won't reverse a thing or change your impression of me as a bad person. But I have accepted my flaws, tonight and I apologize for everything I caused you. I'm ready to make amends."
Did this words just come out from the lady sitting across me? Kendall Campbell?
This got to be a fairytale dream.
Unbelievable!
If it were someone else, I'd have believed without much convincing. But her?
No way.
I expected her to challenge me to my face or create an argument, but she looked solemn, unlike her.
And she even apologized?!
Where had she hidden her egos? When did she learn to accept her wrongs? And accept defeat?
The Kendall I knew never gives up, so why would she, now? She was always daring and enjoys deriving happiness from people.
"Who are you?" I asked, biting my fingernails.
She burst out in a fit of laughter. "The newest version of Kendall Campbell."
"Still the one that never goes back on her words? The one that never takes no for an answer? The same one crazy about me?" I asked, again and she shook her head.
"It's all in the past. So, it's high time I moved on with my life. I want to start my life afresh."
I was wowed. "This is… a miracle."
She giggled, chanting, "Indeed."
"You're no longer interested in our wedding?"
I know I was asking a lot, but I couldn't help it. I was damn curious.
She shrugged. "Call it off, man."
"And what are you saying about my parents?"
She took a sip of her glass of wine. "Be rest assured. I will send them over to you, tomorrow."
My jaw dropped. "Kendall, I'm getting scared. What's happening?"
She gave a full, genuine smile. "Nothing. I swear, I'm fine."
"If you say so."
This night hit so different. We ate, drank and talked all night. I couldn't say if we were in good terms or not.
She was hard to predict. The only way I would believe her was if she actually brings my parents home as she said.
Nonetheless, I had good news to share to everyone at home soon, but I'll save the best for the last.
It was time for us to path ways, now. I helped her to her feet as a gentleman, and we hugged.
I was neither happy nor sad, just neutral emotions. They were tears in her eyes when she broke the hug.
I couldn't even detect if they were real or fake because those were the tears that made me almost fall for her pregnancy blackmail.
I wanted to ask her about her child with Mateo, but the atmosphere wasn't right for such personal questions. I felt she wouldn't like to talk about it.
So, I kept my mouth shut and drowned in my assumptions that either she lost the child or she aborted her pregnancy.
She held my both hands, staring into my eyes. "Thank you for helping me find my true self. Goodnight, Addy."
I stood there, frozen. Then she leaned closer and kissed my cheek.
A white jeep with black tinted windows drove in and parked in front of us.
"I got to go," she pouted, and I got the message.
I offered my right hand. "May I?"
She smiled and gave me her hand, then we began strolling to the car. I opened the back door, then she got in and settled down on the passenger's seat.
"Thank you, once again," she mentioned, and I nodded.
"Goodnight, Dollie." I jammed the door and headed for my car.
Regan got the door for me and I gave him a small smile in appreciation. He hurried off to the driver's seat and ignited the engine.
Mason was patient enough to sit and wait in the car. Though he insisted to do so while I went on my date.
I laughed, dryly. "You look tired, bro."
He looked up at me from his phone screen. "And you look at ease. What's popping…?"
