He started walking inside the dark, crumbling building. It was darker than he remembered though. Suddenly, an arrow shot out and emerged from the pitch black, shooting down the hall right past Tsukiyomi. "It's Tsukiyomi!" he yelled down the hall. A small hooded figure appeared, holding a crossbow. Tsukiyomi recognized the horns, the one eye, the spiked feet, it was his old friend, Spoon. "Show yourself!" said Spoon as he aimed his crossbow towards Tsukiyomi. "Hey, hey, take it easy, Spoon." Tsukomi said, slowly lowering his hood. Tears began to form in Spoon's eyes. "Tsuki, you came back! It's really you!" Spoon dropped the crossbow he carried and ran into Tsukiyomi's arms. Tsukiyomi began to form the words 'I'm sorry I left' but was interrupted by SPoon who cried, "Everyone is dead!"
"W-What? What do you mean?"
"They killed them all! The hunters came and took everyone and killed them! They took 'em away! They told me to hide and it happened." Spoon continued to cry into Tsukiyomi's arms. "N-No… that must not be true!" Tsukiyomi hugged Spoon tighter. "Tell me exactly what happened."
Spoon wiped his tears away. "Last night…I was out collecting scraps. I came back and there were traps set all around this building. They have to know I'm still here! You shouldn't have come back!" Tsukiyomi began to assure Spoon that everything would be alright. Besides, had come to look for something he had left. And indeed there were traps. Wires ran throughout the halls of the building, they were deathly traps. The two tried their hardest to avoid them.
Tsukiyomi ran his hands along the walls, feeling and remembering each and every little detail and crack. He remembered the staircase he walked up to get to the second level of the building. And he was looking for a room, his room. A room he collected strings and ribbons in. He came to retrieve his things. He entered the dust filled room. A cabinet near the only window, a dust filled, creaky bed with only a single quilt, a desk with a cracked mirror and one drawer that got jammed if you shut it too quickly, and a closet which held only one piece of clothing, a black cloak. It was his old room. "Stay out here just in case there are any traps in here. I just need a few things and then we can leave." said Tsukiyomi, placing Spoon by the door to his room. Tsukiyomi went through the drawer and took a white ribbon. For some reason though that white ribbon gave him an awful feeling so he took a brown one instead. He also took the cloak from the closet. But once he turned his back, he regretted ever coming. The sound of a spear slicing through flesh made him turn. Immediately, tears filled his eyes as he ran over to Spoon. Spoon trembled, a hunter spear poking from his chest. He stood there, his hands feeling around the spear. He was shocked and confused. Tsukiyomi yelled and rushed over to him. He dropped to his knees as Spoon lost his balance. Spoon spit up blood, not intentionally of course. A bit splashed on Tsukiyomi's face. "I d-didn't see the trap…p-please..Tsuki, pull it out!" Spoon pleaded.
"Spoon, I…I don't know what to do. It will only make it worse if I pull the spear out." A small smile then appeared on Spoon's face. The smile of a child. "W-well, I'm happy I finally got to see you again. You took a long time…the others didn't get to hug you like I did.. I guess that makes me lucky! I'm so happy the last person I get to see is you, Tsuki…" Spoon said, making it sound sappy on purpose. Tsukiyomi chuckled through his tears. Spoon's eyes flickered as Tsukiyomi laid him on the floor. "Come on spoon, yóu gotta stay with me..please!" he begged.
Spoon's eyes finally shut, he couldn't keep them open. "Hey, Tsuki…I don't really feel too good…" Then the sound of his breathing had stopped. Tsukiyomi cried. Spoon was the only family Tsukiyomi had then. At least the only family he could remember. Spoon had only been a child, like him. A yokai who had been on this earth for twenty-two years and died at age eleven. Yokai did tend to have longer life spans where they only aged every two years. But he died too young. They all did.
Tsukiyomi covered Spoon's body with his old cloak and lit it on fire. He left muttering the words, "Rose be with you, Spoon..my dear friend."
'Rose be with you' was a saying Divinians used to bless someone. Tsukiyomi never considered himself a divinian but he said it anyway. He didn't even know his own religion since he forgot all the time.
He never looked back when the building began to burn down. For the second time. He walked all the way back to the airships to return to his side. He wanted to be done crying, he had had enough of the tears.
He searched in his pocket for his money pouch but couldn't seem to find it. He was hungry but without money he had no way of eating. And he wasn't in the mood to steal or pickpocket.
He eventually reached the other side of Whither and decided to sneak onto a trolleybus. He had nowhere to go anyway. But it was strange, the trolley had been really crowded that day. So crowded that Tsukiyomi had been pushed against a door. He turned to see a tall man hovering over him. "Hey, a little space here?" he complained, but a familiar voice replied. "My bad. There isn't much room at the moment."
Wait, Tsukiyomi thought, it was that Tadashi guy. Tsukiyomi had turned away. After a minute though, Tsukiyomi felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to Tadashi. "Forgive me, but you left this at my hut when you left early this morning." Tadashi handed Tsukiyomi his money pouch. "Thanks..wait, have you been following me?" Tsuki said as he took his pouch back. Tadashi looked away. "I..might have spotted you once or twice today but I didn't follow you."
"Is that so?" Tsukiyomi ignored him,
"Are you alright? It seems like you've been crying. Your eyes are slightly swollen." asked Tadashi. Tsukiyomi pulled the hood of the cloak over his head to cover his face. "N-No, i would never cry!" Tadashi lifted Tsukiyomi's hood to give him a cloth to wipe his tears. Tsukiyomi slapped his hand away. "Don't touch me." Tsukiyomi said aggressively, Tadashi sighed. "You seem to need a place to stay. You don't have anywhere else to go right?" Tsukiyomi didn't want to deny the fact that Tadashi wasn't wrong. But he really didn't have anywhere else to go so Tsukiyomi's only answer was, "Fine.." So Tsukiyomi followed Tadashi out of the trolleybus and back to his hut.
And once the two had arrived at the hut, Tadashi offered Tsukiyomi to take Tsukiyomi's cloak but he declined the offer. So instead, Tadashi gave Tsukiyomi a cup of tea as Tsuki took a seat at a small tea table in the middle of the hut. So Tsukiyomi took the cup and drank the tea.
