Chereads / Chaos War / Chapter 3 - The Man in the Mirror

Chapter 3 - The Man in the Mirror

He turned off the tap before tying his hair into a bun which shows his two small fringes on each side. Hunter looked at his reflection in the mirror, it had a fairly long, yet rounded face, just like he had, teal green eyes, like he had, with tanned skin, like he had and wore a smirk, whereas he did not.

"Don't panic," the reflection said with the same husky voice he had, "... Is the messy man-bun necessary?"

"Where did you come from?" Hunter whisper shouts

"Ah, I forgot you don't remember."

Hunter looked troubled, "Remember what?" He asked confused.

"You visited my realm the other day right?"

"No," Hunter shakes his head, "I've been in this school since I arrive here!" He claimed

The reflection rolled his eyes, "The place with the dark, endless space."

Hunter stopped for a second, "oh,"

"Yes," the man in the mirror said with a small smile, "Back then, you and I made a deal,"

"What deal?"

"If I wanted you to know you would have remembered our conversation back then," he stated.

"So you're a demon? I learned about your order yesterday, you make deals with people and take shelter in their minds."

"I must say, you're taking this incredibly well," the demon noted,

"What else can I do? What I don't understand is why I would agree to your proposal back then,"

"All would be revealed with time," the demon stated

"Why do you look like me? Most of the demons I've seen are, no offense, foul looking,"

The demon nodded, "if you're talking about the things you normally exorcise those aren't demons, they are called darklings. Also, I'm not a pure demon --"

"A witch then, tampered with chaos or black magic and degenerated into a demon,"

"Close but let's go with that. You see, I'm your ancestor and I looked like this when I was your age ... Without the bun, of course, I wore my hair down." The demon explained, "I'm surprised by how much you've learned about mysticism since your arrival here,"

"I've been spending a lot of my time in the library."

"I know, I've been inside you all this time remember?"

"Yeah, if what you're saying is right then we made our deal three days ago, why did you choose today to reveal yourself to me?"

"I've been going through your memories, I needed to learn more about you."

"Going through my -- can you not do that?!"

The demon shrugged, "You should start preparing for class, you don't want to be late."

"Well well well, look who it is ..." A voice from distant taunted

"Move out of my way Benson," a crisp, low, feminine voice replied

'Someone's getting bullied,' Hunter thought as he ran over to where he was hearing the voice from.

Two muscular men stood over a shorter girl with a third person between both men, he was taller than them both. He had very defined, heavily muscular and light skin, his eyebrows furrowed as he stared at the girl with nothing but anger and disgust, 'that must be Benson,' Hunter thought.

"You heard the lady, move out of her way," he stated as he walked up behind her.

"I see how it is," Benson laughs, "you won't always have your slave to protect you," he said before walking away with his friends.

Once they were out of sight, Hunter turned to look at the girl, it was the same girl that was staring at him on his first day, "thanks," she said with a sight smile, "I would have handled it myself though," she noted.

"I don't doubt it."

"I'm being serious, Benson is only a beta and the other two are pack warriors, I'm an alpha, I would have taken them out," she stated matter-of-factly.

"Wait, you're an alpha? Aren't you too young?"

"It's not about my age, I am the strongest wolf in my pack."

Hunter nods thoughtfully, "but can't you like control him or something? He is your beta."

She shakes her head, "He's from a different pack," she explained

"Then why does he acts that way towards you if the two of you aren't even in the same pack?" Hunter asked

"You'd do the same if you found out I was going to kill everything you are." She replied with a sad smile

"Huh?" He said confused

"I am fated to become the most powerful werewolf in the world, kill the moon, plunge the world into darkness and thus destroy every werewolf," she explained.

"Wow, that's ... Wow," he looked around, "why were you in my class then? You're aren't a sorcerer."

She shrugged, "Wanted to learn more about your class."

Hunter raised an eyebrow, "I'm sorry, I find that hard to believe."

"I don't know, I just felt I needed to be in your class back then."

"Interesting," Hunter noted, "I'm Hunter but I guess you already knew that," he said, extending his hand.

She shakes his hand before speaking, "Sydney." She replied, "We have to hurry to the assembly, we're late."

"As mentioned yesterday," the teacher began, "You will be going on a study tour starting today. You will be divided into a group with four students each. Keep in mind your performance is being monitored. The teams have already been posted on the notice board, find out what team you're on, meet with your teammates, and head for the parking lot, you would be given further instructions there."

Hunter and Sydney walk to the notice board, his eyes scanning over the board as he searches for his name which he found just below the name Sydney Swan, "Guess we're in the same team," She said

"Yes, yes we are."  He smiled

"Excuse me," another student interjected, he was a pale-skinned young man of average height with neck-length messy brown hair and brown eyes. He wore the school's standard male uniform consisting of a dark green blazer with brown trim that lines the cuffs and collar, he had on a white button-up shirt underneath and a brown tie. As well as a pair of dark green trousers with brown loafers.

"Are you Sydney Swan?" He asked.

"Yes."

"I'm Martin Clay, your teammate."

"It's nice to meet you, Martin," Hunter said.

"You must be Hunter," he observed, "I guess that means there's just one of us left."

"Yes," Hunter checked the board, "They go by the name ... Zoe LeClaire,"

"That would be me," A tall slender young woman with short, shaggy black hair parted down the middle said. She had deeply intimidating gray eyes and freckles on her cheeks. Her hair was kept in a low ponytail with a brown tie. She had on a white button-down shirt whose buttons were undone at the top and the sleeves rolled up with a dark green sleeveless sweater over it. She wore a mid-thigh long skirt with frilly stockings.

"Let's get going," She said flatly, already on her way to the parking lot.

...

A while later, they were already in their bus driving through the city, "The Metropolitan city is so beautiful," Hunter gushed.

"You've never been around the city before?" Sydney asked

"No."

"Me neither!" She smiled, "I've always dreamt of traveling around the city, maybe the two of us can go on an adventure sometime."

"Ohh, that would be nice!" Hunter agreed

"Need I remind you knuckleheads we are out here for school and not to have fun?" Zoe said,

"That's harsh," Hunter frowned

"Let's start over," Martin interjected, "With a full introduction," he added. "The name's Martin Clay, I'm 19 and a year 1 student. I belong to the order conjurer of the class sorcerer, I like the color green and I am allergic to nuts."

"My turn, my name is Sydney Swan, I'm 18 and also a year 1 student, I belong to the class shifter and order werewolf, I'm a vegan and ... I can't think of anything I hate."

"I'm Hunter Heffernan, 18, I belong to the order sprite of the class sorcerer, I like taking pictures and hate apples."

"Hate apples?" Sydney asked

"Yeah, they are overrated," he stated

"I don't think so," Martin disagreed

"How can you hate apples?" Sydney inquired, "it's one of the best fruit there is,"

"To each their own I guess."

The trio turn to Zoe waiting for her introduction but when she doesn't say anything, Martin spoke, "Zoe, it's your turn,"

She rolls her eyes, clearly not wanting to participate in whatever it was they were doing but sighed and began to speak, "listen closely cause I'm only going to say this once, I'm a fiend and clearly levels above you three combined. I am neither your friend nor your teammate as I have been placed in your group to be your guiding hand throughout this study tour, I expect you would treat me with nothing but the utmost respect I deserve."
