Chapter 6 - The Council of Mysticism

"'Harnessing magic from the mist is equivalent to chaos magic', how hard is it to say that?!" He exclaimed.

"I'm sorry, I was too busy figuring out a way to save our life ... your life, and besides, what else were we supposed to do, just lie there and wait for the pure demon to kill us all?" His demon asked

"Help was on the way!" Hunter countered.

"Sure, keep telling yourself that."

"Who exactly are you?" Hunter suddenly asks.

"Your ancestor," he replied

"I don't believe you ..."

"Why not?"

"Because, you haven't given me any reason to believe anything you say, you keep playing your cards close to your chest and expect me to just blindly follow whatever you say. Hell, you haven't even told me your name yet!"

"I didn't tell you my name because I don't want you going around telling people, believe me when I say this, whatever I do and say, is in your best interest, you have no idea how much I've waited for you ..."

"Why me though? I read somewhere that demons can form a deal with anyone."

"This isn't a deal, it's a bond. Demons can only form bonds with a select few, I can't just bond with anyone I come across." The demon stated, "Also, if you die, I die, that was part of the contract we made for the bond."

"Wait, I thought it was part of the contract that I forgot the contract?"

"Yes it was but you think I'm trying to mislead you so I think it's best you know that bit," The demon explained.

"I -- thanks for letting me know," Hunter smiled.

He throws himself on the bed, "And you can call me Waleed."

"Is that even your r --"

"Are you talking to yourself?" A voice from the other side of the bars asked. Hunter looked up to see Sydney.

"Sydney," he smiled, "what are you doing here?" He asked.

"Miss Gibbs-White allowed me in here before the trial," she replied, "how are you?" She asked

"Fine, I think," he replied, "how's Martin, hope he wasn't injured badly?"

"He's fine now," She replied, "so this is where they are keeping you," she said looking around.

"It's pretty cozy, I could see myself spending a good amount of time here," Hunter joked.

"I'm sure they wouldn't like that," she replied. "Seriously though, the walls look like they've seen better days, aren't they afraid you can get out with one punch?"

"The walls are being protected with some sort of spell plus I think they are some anti-magic crystals in them stopping me from using my powers."

"Not that it could hold us if we wanted to escape," Waleed stated.

"Hunter ..." Sydney started softly, "do you remember what happened after the demon attacked our suite?"

"Of course, I fought the demon ..."

"Do you know how you defeated it?" She asked

"Well ... I ... To be honest --"

"Don't tell her about me, not yet at least," Waleed warned

"Yes I do," He lied, "I --"

"Sydney, you're here?" Mr. Daniel appeared from the other side

"Yes," she replied, "I wanted to meet with Hunter ..."

"Okay. I think it's best you head to the court now, the trial is about to begin," Mr. Daniel stated

"Yes sir," she bowed before walking away, the teacher turned to Hunter, "are you ready?" He asked

"Not really ..."

"It's a simple procedure, you're to stand in front of the council of mysticism with important members of the mystic world in attendance. The case would be presented to the council and you or your representative would try and prove your innocence and the council decides whether or not you would be acquitted," Mr. Daniel explained

"And if I'm not?" Hunter asked despite dreading the answer.

"You would be executed ..." Mr. Daniel stated, "don't worry about it too much kid, Lauren and I are on your side, we'd do everything in our power to make sure you're acquitted of all charges."

"And in the chance that we can't prove our innocence, we can always burst out of the place," Waleed pointed out.

'I don't think we would fare well against the high powers of the mystic world but you do you I guess,'

"Just out of curiosity" Hunter began, "who reported me to the council?" He asked

Mr. Daniel was quiet at first, pondering whether or not to answer, he sighs before speaking, "We're not sure but Lauren suspects it might be the vice-chancellor of the school,"

"Oh."

"Hunter," Mr. Daniel said softly, "Lauren and I plan to stand in your defense but we can't do so without hearing all the details of what happened from your perspective."

"Tell him you don't need their help," Waleed advised

'I don't?'

"Of course not, you'd be better off defending yourself than having a representative."

'Right,' Hunter looked up at Mr. Daniel, "While I  appreciate your efforts, I think it's best if I stand in my defense," he stated

"Hunter ..."

"Please sir," he requested.

Mr. Daniel sighs before giving him a small nod.

'I'm putting my trust in you, Waleed'

"And you won't regret it."

.

.

Hunter was led out of the prison cell with both of his hands bound by an old chain that had traces of crystals in it.

The guard who led him to the meeting was grinning from ear to ear as they went from the hallways to the lower chambers, "why is he smiling?" Waleed said, a hint of anger in his voice.

"Why are you smiling?" Hunter asked the guard

"I'm sorry," he apologized, "It's just ... I've worked at the council for three hundred years and this is the first time a council meeting is being held, I can't help but feel excited," he explained

"Well, I for one am glad you're finally getting something exciting around here," Hunter said.

"Thanks," the guard replied. They continued silently to the upper chamber, the guard's irritating smile returning. Right before the courtroom was a hall, adorned with statues on each side, "who are these guys?" Hunter asked

"Important people in our world," the guard replied, "that one's Sirae, the first vampire," the man said pointing to the first statue on the right. The figure had large ears and Long limbs but yet looked short for its figure.

"That one's Arastoso, the ancient one, the first known sorcerer," he says pointing to the first statue on the left, the figure had a long cape and leg greaves but no shirt on.

"This one over here is Mene, the werewolf goddess." The guard said pointing to the statue next to him.

"Will I be meeting anyone one of these guys today?" Hunter asked

"Just one."

The guard pushed the doors open, and most of the people present in the courtroom turned their attention to the entrance.

Hunter walked into the room, following closely behind the guard feeling most if not all of the eyes present staring at him.

The guard led Hunter to the front, his pupil looking side to side catching sight of those present. They were possibly up to a thousand there, ranging from old, young, short, tall, fat, thin, beautiful, and ugly. Some looked like the regular human, others had extremely pale skin, and some other beings he wouldn't class under 'looked like the regular human', and he was certain he saw a large three-headed snake among the crowd.

Behind the first row were some of his mates from the school of mysticism, Hunter recognized most of them from the study tour, also among them was Lauren, Martin, and Sydney with Mr. Daniel nowhere to be found.

The guard showed Hunter to his seat, the one at the front of the rows.

Hunter sat in his seat and a very tall fellow wearing a tunic stood up and cleared his throat and the whisper-filled courtroom suddenly quiet down.

"All of you are present here today as witnesses of the 14th court session in the council," the man stated, his voice broad and loud, echoing in the entire room, "The case is against Hunter Heffernan, who is charged with the use of forbidden arts. Presiding over the trial and rendering justice are ..." The man spun around facing the seats on an elevated platform in front of everyone present before he began the introductions,

"HIM, the God-Eater," he stated, pointing to the first man by the right. He looked like a regular man except he had a hawk head, wearing a large, golden disk on top of his head, with a serpent wrapped around the base of the disk like a crown. He held a scepter in his right hand, unmoving like a statue. Hunter felt intimidated just looking at him.

"Lilith, the ruler of Hel and representative of the dark mystics class." The aforementioned Lilith suddenly appeared, accompanied by a blinding light that shined from behind her. She had silver hair with multi-colored streaks and silver eyes that suddenly turned maroon.

Her skin was extremely pale, almost the same color as her hair. She was tall, and a very attractive woman with an authoritarian appearance, wearing an all-white glamorous sleeveless dress, the top was made with chiffon fabric and a plunge neckline that covered just enough of the bust, and the bottom was made with a silky material that hugged her hips down, both seemingly held together by a large silver belt that resembles a 'V', flaunting her hourglass figure with her waist visible along with a sliver choker.

Her dress also had what looked like wings, made of fur. She looked like she was dressed for a fashion show and not a court session.

"Is -- is she going somewhere after this?" Waleed mused

'Not a good time to make a joke'

"Hey, you said and I quote 'I'm about to die, what better time to make a joke than now'" Waleed stated

'What do you mean 'about to die', I thought you said we have this case under control, isn't that why you told me to not have Mr. Daniel represent me?'

"I never said we have this under control," Waleed replied, "I said you'd be better off defending yourself than having a representative."

"Hecate, the Queen of the witches and representative of the sorcerer class."

Hecate had long dark hair as well as eyes, she wore nothing as classy as her dark mystics' counterpart, donning a dark green jumpsuit and a black cape.

"Conan, the King and representative of the fairies."

Conan had an extremely muscular build, with long golden hair and golden eyes.

"Mene, the goddess of the moon and representative of the shifters."

Mene was an attractive, light-skinned, and average-height woman. She had long gray hair, blue eyes, blue lipstick, and blue painted nails and wore a deep blue slit dress.

"...and finally Count Dracula, Lord of the vampires and representative of the Reanimates."

"Count Who?" Waleed wondered

"Dracula ... He's real?"

Dracula had red eyes, and his eyebrows were sparse and furrowed, making him seem annoyed. He had long dark hair stretching a little past his shoulder and a Van Dyke style beard though his goatee was slightly longer. He wore a cloak whose outside were black and inside red that covered his black tuxedo.

'Dracula looks like an older version of me with my hair down, you think he is also your descendant?'

"Maybe," Waleed stated, "I did have a lot of children from different women."

'That is more information than I needed to know'

"These six make up the council of mysticism." The man with the loud voice stated. He turned back to face the court, "Arguing against Mr. Heffernan are Santa Claus and Myrddin Wyllt also known as Merlin."

'What the hell?!'
