Chapter 12 - Mistakes

Eventually, Elizabeth, fell into a fit full sleep laying along the concrete ground surrounded by the other women. After the accident she'd lost her child, there wasn't any other way to describe it other than an empty feeling in the pit of her stomach. Upon realizing there was no where to turn she decided to simply start walking.

Days turned into nights and nights turned into weeks; before long those weeks turned colder and she found herself in the streets of an unknown city. She decided to remain hidden from people and found the freight depot; then she'd gotten betrayed by yet another person she'd put trust into.

All of these things began to weight heavily on Elizabeth's mind and heart; that's when laying on the cold, dirty, ground she made a decision that if she her life was in fact over, she would go down fighting.

Her eyes remained closed as a single plan began to take form; she counted the steps as the iron door was opened from the other side. Her breathing became shallow as she heard a single individual begin pacing back and forth in front of her still figure.

She felt the stranger kneel down beside her as if the darkness had it's own weight abruptly shifted. Remorsefully, Elizabeth, opened her eyes to come face to crouched knee with one of the men from before. He hadn't been the one to carry her but he defiantly was the other man from the chase through the burnt out brick building. He seemed to catch the accusing glare in her eyes because before she could think of screaming a rough calloused hand was placed over her mouth.

With his other hand he carefully helped her to her feet and began carefully guiding her toward the door. Without much choice, she follows. After stumbling past the threshold with one of his hands wrapped tightly around her forearm, Elizabeth, has enough and starts fighting for her life.

She screams a blood curdling cry before thrashing strong enough to break his hold; without thinking or even knowing where to go she starts running in a random direction. Unfortunately she didn't fight well enough and he quickly catches up to her, yanking her off her feet and into his broad chest. He wraps both arms around her fragile frame and continues holding on until she stops screaming.

It takes almost an hour for her voice to finally go out and by then he's already dragged her into another part of the decrepit building. Upon arrival the door is closed behind them and he stands firmly in front of it; Elizabeth glares up at him from the ground. If they are to survive what he's been planning there has to be a way for them to communicate. This thought haunts William as he feels her eyes glare ice cold daggers into his chest. He doesn't want to hurt her but he knows if he doesn't do anything there won't be another opportunity.

They wait silently as the sound of footsteps hurries past before she watches William lean out to check to see if they've been spotted. After several seconds he turns around and motions for her to stand, so she does. Without realizing running for her life along with one of their own would lead to a series of mistakes she'd barely escape from.
