Chapter 6 - Not Dead Yet

The feeling of being lifted up over someone's shoulder faintly registered in her semi-conscious state. Quickly followed by the chill of harsh pelting rain nearly knocking the air from her lungs. Elizabeth tried remaining as still and quiet as possible while listening to two hushed male voices; one of which she recognized as the elderly man.

Warm tears welled in her eyes as the sting of what'd occurred finally set in. Betrayal cuts deep and leaves unhealable scars; all she could do was continue pretending to be unconscious as the men stepped from the concrete platform onto a slick cobblestone path. By now the rain had stopped leaving everything it'd touched much harder to grasp.

Elizabeth shifted her weight, making the top half of her body heavier, causing the taller man to slip on his way down off the platform; she braced for a painful impact and rolled off onto her side as the man came tumbling down. He cried out a string of colorful curses, in a foreign language, as she took off running down the pathway, toward the closest charred red brick building. She ducked inside and kept running until she reached the far left corner; there were a few charred wooden pallets to hide behind.

She ducked down low as both men came stumbling into the room and clasped a hand over her mouth. Silence is a virtue of which she was in desperate need, as she began shifting her weight until her only cover was the blackened portion of a wooden pallet. The familiar click of metal on concrete let her know exactly where the men are located.

Fear begins to bloom inside her chest as she counts off the metallic clicks in her head. They weren't to far off from where she was hiding but if she played it smart they wouldn't find her.

Elizabeth ducked farther down as she panned the remaining brick walls for an escape route; there wasn't one. Feeling crushed by overwhelming fear she began to imagine the worst but nothing would've prepared her for what their twisted minds had begun to unravel.
