Chapter 8 - Corpse sea in the making

I looked down expectantly, hoping that the leviathan was dead.

[Elemental Mastery ↑]

I ignored the notification panel and cleared up the smoke, seeing a whirlpool and the gory remains of the now dead leviathan brought me relief.

Thankfully, they aren't as formidable as I thought they were. Alright, now's not the time to relax, I've got a lot more leviathans to deal with.

And you may ask, why not just run? Think about it, just this area of the sea contains so many leviathans already, who can say for sure that the other areas aren't also leviathan infested?

Besides, it looks like the Ruler of the Seas is enjoying the view right now, I can feel it. Its oppressive presence weighed down on me despite the immeasurable distance between us right now.

Warning me that if I attempt to escape, it would get serious. And boy, do I not want to see a Ruler of the Seas serious.

So, here I am, fighting another leviathan, that previous leviathan was horribly weak. I wanna cry, if only this leviathan was just as weak as the previous one I wouldn't have to be so miserable.

*Swoosh*

I dodged an acid projectile made by an abomination of a leviathan, it looked like a merging of different parts of a variety of animals. A chimera so to say, tens of heads differing in species and hundreds of limbs of inconsistently scaled limbs that added to its vomit inducing visage. I could even see that it possess some characteristics of different leviathans.

This was called the Serpolimboris Mosaic Leviathan, dubbed the natural leviathan hunter due to its trespassing nature towards other leviathan territories and hunger for power and blood.

Did I mention that it can create fire? Yeah, this outrageous anathema of a scourge can, not only assimilate other creatures, they can also inherit their elemental attributes, even if its just only a very low chance.

No doubt this one will give me nightmares to keep me busy for the coming nights.

Thankfully, my attacks can hurt it just by doing the simple act of imbuing mana to my storm body which automatically distributes mana towards all of my attack. Deep wounds were scattered along the body of the Serpolimboris, proof of the effectiveness of my attacks.

And you might be wondering, what was I doing exactly? Aside from controlling my storm body to keep attacking and absorbing atmospheric mana to sustain my continued barrage of attacks. I was focusing on dodging these projectiles launched by this leviathan's heads. Acids, poison, etc., in other words, I was way too busy on trying to survive.

Knowing that his was gonna be a drawn out fight, and that more and more leviathans will arrive if I don't kill this abhorrent blight. I brainstormed about what attacks would prove effective towards this monstrosity.

While consumed by my thoughts, I get hit by a splash of acid, burning through my mana barrier in a matter of seconds, prompting me to keep supplying a stable source of mana towards my mana barrier so that it doesn't disintegrate.

The moment I found the perfect flow of adding mana and solidifying it to maintain the barrier, I received a notification.

[Mana Foundational Manipulation pushed to perfection]

The moment I gained that title, all of my attacks consumed less mana and were getting more numerous bombarding the leviathan with even more intensity.

These water droplets of mine now proved to be fatal as their insane speed pierced through the leviathan's exposed skin and wounds.

The wind blades attacked with more ferocity and speed, enough to cut a one ton block of tungsten in a mere minute.

Lightning fully enveloped by a violet hue impacted the Serpolimboris and charred its skin, producing a burnt smell. While also paralyzing the affected part.

All of its heads roared in pain as it attacked more intensely, sensing the danger.

This time, I prepared my very own attack. Countless water tendrils bounded the Serpolimboris on its position, no matter how hard it struggled, I kept it bound. And then lifted it up in the air, a necessary variable to increase the effectiveness of my to be used attack.

Focusing another part of my attention towards my self, specifically my newly thought of attack. Thinking it deserved to be called an ultimate move, I named it "Stormfront Maelstrom".

The water below the leviathan slowly turned into that of a whirlpool that dwarfed it in size, countless water blades protruded from every part of it, coated with sharp and fast winds, it went along the whirlpool, spinning along with it.

Lightning cackled as the water was infused with it, ensuring that it would either char something or at least paralyze it.

I released the leviathan from the water tendrils, dropping it on the giant blender I made.

Two minutes

That's how long it lasted in there before it became a leviathan smoothie. The most disgusting smoothie ever made with the largest blender.

I smile as I dodge some of the projectiles released by the newly arrived leviathans. Surely these other leviathans aren't as hard to kill as that one right?

I clasp my hands together and prayed for some non-existent deity.

After that was done, I began to focus my attacks over the other leviathans, now that I got used to that abomination of life type of leviathan's nigh impenetrable defense. I was surprised at how squishy the other leviathans were, not as weak as the octopus leviathan but not that far from it.

With that said, a devilish smile appeared on my face, knowing that surviving seems to be a lot more doable now.

As I was fighting tens of leviathans at the same time, I paid attention to my map, making sure that the Leirus leviathan wasn't approaching this place as I did not want to face a potentially civilization destroying monster.

So I continued with killing the attacking leviathans, not seeing the familiar docile leviathans among them relieved me as I couldn't bear to kill peaceful leviathans. A way of saying my thanks to Noptera for not letting me get hurt back then.

The moment I killed the hundredth leviathan, I gained a title.

[Title Gained]

[Leviathan Hunter(Epic Grade)]

[Increases inflicted harm against leviathans by 200%, any leviathan species that are hostile to you will feel an oppressive force, weakening their combat effectiveness and on rare occasions, your attacks will ignore their defenses]

When I saw the same wind blade slice up a small leviathan without even losing its momentum, I became ecstatic. Chances of me surviving just increased by tens of percent, reassuring me that even I could survive if I persevere for long enough.

My face was painted with an ear reaching smile, a devilish smile was once again seen on my innocent face.

....A few hours later, my tired face came into view as I stared at the sea infested with leviathan corpses, still fighting relentlessly with no rest.

I felt aggrieved for the first time in my life for something I didn't even know I did. That damnable leviathan made these inferior creatures attack me for a mere disturbance? Was it even worth it?

[Purpose stat ↑]

A clear path was set in front of me, my fate, my destiny, to be a mere corpse floating on the ocean surface, along with the nearly thousands of leviathans I massacred.

When I saw that vision, the Leirus Phantom Leviathan stopped watching, almost like it saw what I saw, the oppressive weight bearing down on me for the past few hours disappeared along with the Ruler leviathan. Making me feel a lot lighter and positive.

*Smack*

I smack my own cheeks to get me back into reality, deciding that I would do something so crazy, it might just prompt the Ruler of the Seas to attack me with no hesitation.
