Their eyes met with her exhausted yet determined eyes. She continuously glanced back and forth at both of them before a sigh escaped her lips.
She had short brown messy hair with a pair of round glasses which had her brown eyes behind them.
She was clad in a shirt and pants which were mostly covered by the large lab coat she wore on top. She looked like someone in her late forties.
"I wasn't expecting you to bring a woman so soon. You have to take things slower."
Ray's mouth twitched when he heard this. "It's not like that. She's my partner."
Her lips parted in surprise, "You are married?"
"Stop joking around you know what I mean," he huffed.
"You're so boring," she chuckled before bringing her attention to Sylph who had just been watching everything in both surprise and amusement. They were even closer than she thought.
"Don't mind us, girl. How are you doing?" she asked with a smile.
"I'm good thank you."
"That's good. So what did you come here for?" She asked looking at the board with a contemplating expression.
"We came to check our scale."
She turned back in excitement.
"Yes! Yes! Yes!" She said walking towards them with a large smile. She was currently acting like someone who was slightly crazy.
"Yoo-hoo! I've been waiting for something practical for a while. Come, come, come, come, come," she pulled him towards an area that had a large hospital bed with a device hanging above it like an X-ray scanner.
"You know the usual," she winked causing Ray to roll his eyes.
She gets too excited over things concerning science, especially practical and observation.
Ray took a liquid in a narrow bottle and gulped it before walking towards a smaller room.
This liquid made the detection of the A-gene easier. After some time, he came out with a patient gown.
"Oh! My little boy's really handsome," she said with a smile.
Ray rolled his eyes before lying on the bed.
She moved around him touching some parts of his body before walking towards the control and display panel.
After pressing some places on the screen, a beam shot out of the device above, continuously scanning him from head to toe.
Sylph sat down on a chair just watching this, while Felicity continuously pressed and moved her hands on the screen with a serious expression on her face.
Due to a request from a friend and after taking a liking to him, he was one of the few people which she personally handled his aberration, as it was usually done by another department.
She had given him a very special A-factor that had affected him in ways that she was to fully comprehend.
When she gave him the A-factor, she wasn't even sure he was going to survive it, and yet here he was with a rare ability.
She took him like a son, and that was why he had access to this floor and could even enter her office while she was busy. No one else could do such a thing.
After some minutes, a sigh escaped her lips. "I'm done."
The beam turned off as Ray got up from the bed.
"So, how is it?" He asked already knowing the answer to that which she confirmed.
"The same. I'm surprised how you could possess a 3.1 scale with your level of strength," she said in confusion staring at his results.
Sylph was shocked when she heard this, she had met him for only about three hours but he had shocked her more than anyone she's seen in years.
Aberrants with a 3.1 scale usually just mastered their abilities and had been to few battles. Although she didn't know of his strength, she knew he wasn't that weak. For him to have a scale of just 3.1 was something.
Felicity wouldn't have normally said out his scale number for someone who she had just met and who she was sure Ray also didn't know well.
But for him to have brought her here, then he should have a significant amount of trust.
"What was your name again?" She asked looking at her.
"Sylph," she replied.
"Such a befitting name! Go change so I can check you up," she said with a loving smile.
Sylph nodded before walking into the changing room.
Felicity looked at Ray to see him giving her a weird stare. "What?" She said with an innocent expression.
"You're not usually this nice. Is something wrong?" He hadn't seen her giving any attention to anyone except him and a certain someone.
"Don't be silly, she's a nice girl and you never know, Sera might become a grandmum very soon," she winked.
Ray ignored what she said as he was already used to her teasing.
But then a bitter smile appeared on his face. Felicity who was one of the four people that knew plenty of information about Ray's past knew she had triggered some memories.
"Don't worry, you'll see them someday," she said with an assuring smile as Ray nodded in affirmation.
Surely one day he'll get to see his family and nothing would stop him from doing that.
A few minutes later, Sylph walked out with a similar patient gown to Ray.
"Wow! I forgot to say earlier but you're very stunning," Felicity said with a smile before turning towards Ray.
"I knew I could count on you, " she winked at Ray who just stared at her blankly, not knowing how to react.
Sylph walked towards the table which had the narrow bottled liquid on top and drank one before proceeding to lie on the bed.
Felicity moved around her, poking some parts of her body with her fingers, before walking towards the panel.
Just like Ray. After pressing some places on the screen a beam shot out and began scanning her from head to toe.
She didn't have the serious expression she had when studying Ray. Rather, it was that of satisfaction.
Seeing someone as beautiful as her lying on a bed almost any man would be turned on. Some thoughts had even flashed through his head but were immediately terminated.
He knew that he shouldn't even have the slightest of those thoughts towards not just her but anyone, at least until he had completed his objective.
After some minutes the beam disappeared indicating that she was through. So Sylph stood from the bed gazing at Felicity who continuously shook her head in approval.
"You're even better than I expected and I'm sure Ray also didn't expect this."
Sylph didn't take anything she had been saying seriously, so she wasn't offended in the slightest but she didn't expect her to have such a personality. What she didn't know was that it was because of Ray that she acted this way.
"Your A-gene scale is 3.3 which is impressive. Don't pay any attention to Ray, he's a weirdo. "
3.1 and 3.3 might not seem much of a difference. But the fact was that it was.
The highest scale reduction that had ever happened was by 0.3 and it would take some time to increase it by 0.2 on normal occasions.
Ray was impressed by this. He knew that his 3.1 was abnormal, so 3.3 was exceptional for someone at her level.
After they both changed up, she served them tea, as he told her about their missions.
"I see," she said after listening to what he had said.
"Those terrorists have caused a lot of problems. It's quite surprising that you guys were given such a mission. I hope you're both aware that at least half of their members are aberrants and for them not to have been caught by now, they're not your regular terrorists."
Ray and Sylph were well aware of this. "We'll be working with the tenth."
"That's good, but this is what disturbs me."
She walked towards her laptop and after pressing some buttons, a chart appeared on a large screen, which showed the rate of abyssals that had appeared in Euthopia since the 4 and a half years of its existence.
This year was by far the highest, and it was still increasing.
"At first I thought they were slipping past the borders or something like that. But later on, I discovered that even though this might be true, it isn't what is causing the rate of the abyssals to increase."
A frown appeared on both of their faces when they heard this.
"Then what may be the cause," Sylph asked, but she shook her head. "I'm not sure myself, and I can't go around releasing theories. When I'm sure, I'll inform everyone."
Ray was disappointed but he knew she was right.
"If you guys find or notice anything, let me know, and don't tell anyone about this yet."
They nodded in understanding.
'It seems like things we aren't aware of, are happening. I have to get stronger quickly.' Ray said to himself.
