A rumbling sound was created as the abyssal emerged from the almost demolished building with fury in its eyes.
It stared at the creature which had attacked it out of the blue and still had the guts to approach it.
Ray took slow casual steps towards the abyssal, with his right hand on the hilt of the sword which was still sheathed and held in the left.
"Aeeerrrrrrrrrr!!" It roared while charging forward.
Once it got into a close enough range, it swung its left arm forward. The attack was so quick that a normal human wouldn't be able to follow its movement, but Ray was far from normal.
He jumped while spinning his body as the abyssal's arm went below him. He was still mid-air when the abyssal's second hand was upon him.
He used his sheathed sword to block the attack, and the moment contact was made, he was sent flying backwards, but his movement came to a stop after his legs made contact with the ground.
A skid mark could be seen on the ground, and his trainers were almost completely torn apart. This was expected as he was wearing normal clothing.
"Hmmmm! This one's stronger than the last," he muttered while taking off what was left of his shoes.
He wasn't using his abilities as he wanted to see how much he would fare against it without them.
"I guess I'll be using you," he smiled while unsheathing his 1.2 meters double-edged sword, which was pitch black with golden streaks running around it, and golden edges.
He looked at the two girls before throwing the sheath towards them.
Throwing something like that casually over a distance of 20 meters would have been termed outstanding and very impressive 5 years ago, but no one seemed impressed as they had seen far more impressive things.
There were a lot of people watching the fight from a safe distance with excited, flushed, and awed expressions on their faces.
Some people were recording this on their mobile devices, something they were glad they could still use as power was being brought to Euthopia through underground means from the outside world.
An underground tunnel was currently being created so that transportation and evacuation out of Euthopia would be much easier.
Somehow the meteorite affected all types of long ranged communication within a large amount of area, which included Euthopia.
So making contact with the outside world through phones and other devices was almost impossible, and with no network connection, almost all functions of their phones and other devices were rendered useless.
This was the reason why people who had families on the outside like Ray haven't been able to contact them.
So the videos and pictures they were taking couldn't even be uploaded online. They just took it so they could be able to show their friends later.
The only type of communication technology was called Skyline, which for now could only send short messages.
"Go in there," he said, pointing at a building a little bit far.
The girls nodded and took to their heels.
Seeing its prey running away, the abyssal roared and ran towards them, but it was stopped by its hated enemy. "Don't be in such a hurry. Now let's see how I'll fare."
*******************************
Fiona and Sylph could be seen standing at the entrance of the ninth base.
"He's late, again!" Fiona shouted in anger, as the temperature increased several folds.
Everyone around her was scared shitless. Unlike Ray, they didn't even have the guts to look at her, as they felt only that action could take their lives away.
Despite being close to Fiona, Sylph had a neutral expression as though she couldn't feel the temperature rise, while the others around them were sweating their glands out with shaky hands, but they dared not complain.
Fiona folded her arms in annoyance, which began to change to worry.
'I know he usually arrives late, but not on important missions.' This was the first time he was arriving late on a mission, something he took seriously.
"Is something wrong?" Sylph asked, noticing her change of expression, but before she could reply, a middle-aged man in glasses approached them.
"Excuse me, leader."
"Go on." She was a little annoyed, but this man was important to their base.
"There's a report of a disturbance in section C9," he voiced out.
"Which level?" She asked with a frown.
"Level 1.5," he responded.
Threat levels was a term used by Sentries, which signifies the amount of danger an abyssal poses.
Lower abyssals were level 1, higher abyssals level 2, greater abyssals level 3, and peak abyssals level 4.
The abyssals who had a .5 like the one mentioned by the man, being a 1.5 were higher threats than those at their ranks usually possessing abilities.
"Is that so?" Fiona asked unbothered. "Section C9 isn't far from here. Sylph, can you go check it out, if he doesn't come in 10 minutes, I'll go look for him myself, and he'd better have a good excuse."
"I'll be going now," Sylph said. She began walking forward as the air around her began to slightly swirl. The swirl got stronger and stronger until she began floating upwards.
After reaching four meters above the ground.
"Vwwooooommm!"
She blasted forward.
The man who had arrived signed in relief with his face red.
How could he not have such a reaction? She was just too beautiful. As for Fiona, he had learned how to control himself around her, which took some time and if it wasn't for his usefulness as he was in charge of the department which watched out for any abnormality or attack in their region, using cameras, heat scanners, and others, he might have lost his life by now.
He had come to deliver the report himself as all other members of his department were too scared to do so.
If the information wasn't reported she would take it out on him, and understanding where they were coming from, he could only grit his teeth and report this himself.
Seeing her take off like that surprised him. He had seen many abilities but hasn't seen anyone able to fly without the help of a device.
"That's an amazing ability she has. She might be a worthy opponent in the future.
Once Sylph joined the ninth base, Fiona was provided with all her information, and surprisingly she was among the top 170, with her talent ranking surpassing every Sentry in the ninth base including Ray, with the exemption of herself and two certain people.
"Go use any means to search for Ray's location."
"Yes Ma," he said, walking away quickly.
*********************************
"This is how we're going to do this. I'm only going to use my swordsmanship with no abilities. I think it should be fair then," he said loudly with a generous smile to the abyssal who couldn't understand him at all.
The abyssal stared at him in confusion and ridicule, with one thought in its mind.
'Was that supposed to be a roar?'
"Aeerrrrrrrrhhh!!" It released a roar of its own before charging at him.
Ray took a fighting stance as the abyssal closed the gap between them.
It punched forward with great strength but Ray sidestepped the attack. The moment the punch made contact with the ground, crack marks appeared as some pieces were sent flying.
A slight smile appeared on Ray's face before he slashed the abyssal's hand.
His sword cut 3 inches into the 9-inch thick hand of the abyssal, causing it to roar in fury before swinging its other arm which slammed into Ray.
He flew backward towards a building, but he was able to regain his balance mid-air and landed horizontally on the building before leaping forward, causing crack marks to appear on the wall.
The abyssal quickly grabbed a tall lamp post and swung it at Ray, who used his sword to cut it into clean halves.
The force behind his movement wasn't interrupted, so he reached the abyssal giving it a kick on the head, which although didn't send it flying, caused it to skid away with black blood dripping from its mouth.
He stared at the 3.5 feet tall abyssal which wondered how a frail-looking creature could inflict injuries and pain on it.
Not accepting this, the abyssal bolted towards him, arriving just two seconds after, and began swinging its arm rapidly at Ray, who continuously dodged all of its attacks with a smug on his face.
'Even sensei's daggers were faster. Is it too weak or I'm just too strong?'
The abyssal was beginning to get frustrated when Ray exploded forward, using the hilt of his sword to slam into its chest as it shot backwards with a spurt of blood before crashing into a building.
"You're quite weird," Ray said walking forward. "You're strength is above a level 1 threat but still not up to a 1.5. That means you're either a very strong 1.0 or a weak 1.5 level threat."
The abyssal watched in horror as he inched closer to it, but then it remembered something.
It looked towards a particular building and back at Ray.
"Don't even think about it. If you do that our deal is off."
Ray believed that a smug appeared on the abyssal's face as it felt like he was pleading. Without thinking twice, it charged at the building where the girls were.
A sigh escaped Ray's lips. "I warned you."
A golden aura began emanating from him.
