Alethea
A world that's completely out of a Fantasy book. Myriad of races fill the world. Humans, Elves, Beastkin, Dwarves, Demons, Angels, and many more. An expansive and large world that's filled with magical creatures good, bad or neutral. Magic, the primary source of power for every living being, allows the bending of reality, transcending the standard laws governing elements, light, darkness, life, death, and even space and time. The possibility seemed almost seemingless, but everything comes with a price.
....
.....
....
Theo was sitting in the garden waiting for someone at midnight on one of the benches in the garden as he stared at the e glowing moons in the night sky.
Theo had no more doubts that the world they lived in was Alethea and has started to get used to everything in this new world after living in it for more than a week.
Theo smiled again as he saw a shadow beside the grass wall.
He was just extremely glad that he wasn't alone in the foreseeable journey that is to come.
I still have hundreds of qualms with whoever sent me here, but I am thankful that you sent someone familiar with me....
Rustle*
Theo heard and turned his gaze at the rustling of leaves that was close by and saw a shadowy figure approaching where he was at.
The shadow was Selene with a more practical outfit for venturing. She had trousers and a shirt with brown boots, which she usually wears when she trains. She looked like an extremely beautiful noob adventurer, it's just that her weapon behind her back made many people doubt to mess with her.
It had been a week since they'd met the old lady and Selene had to get used to using the scythe she received from the old Grand Master before they started their next plan.
Elsa was kind enough to help her train and spar with her during that time. Selene was grateful for this and managed to get to a level where she could use her scythe in a fight. Her talent also contributed to helping her be more proficient with the weapon.
"Did you break through?"
"Hell yeah, I did"
What Theo asked, if she reached mid intermediate or not and the reply was yes she did.
With the help of the bracelet she was able to push herself more in training, giving her the chance to breakthrough earlier than expected.
Theo stood up, also wearing the same male version of Selene's outfit and whipped out the book that the Old lady gave him.
"Alright, countdown with me."
""3..2..1.. Kobolds are raining down from the sky"" Both Selene and Theo chanted in unison
After a three seconds of nothing happening.
The book floated out of Theo's hand and opened with a blinding light.
They found themselves within a cave, its sole entrance marked by a towering five-meter double door. Effectively confined, their only escape lay in traversing through its entrance.
The entire area was dim and visibly dark, illuminated only by torches on the walls that cast feeble light throughout the room.
They looked at each other and nodded.
"let's go" Theo gestured to Selene to follow
"I'll cover you from the back, you got this Theo" Selene nodded in response with a serious expression donned on her face.
Theo pushed the big double wooden doors and was met by an object flying towards him
Ting*
"Holy sh*t!" Theo exclaimed as he blocked it in time with a light shield spell.
What dropped on the ground was a rusty dagger and the thrower was a bipedal dog with an abnormally muscular body and crooked fangs. A Kobold and it had bloodshot red eyes and was drooling in hunger.
A Peak Beginner tier mob. easy to deal with one on one, but dangerous in numbers.
"F*ck" Selene creeped out
"F*ck, indeed" Theo agreed as he charged at the Kobold and summoned his steel sword to decapitate the mutt.
Shing*
plop*
"One down"
AWOOO!!!!!!!!!!
A loud howl was heard deep into the dim cave and a bunch of agile footsteps started heading their way.
"Here they come. twelve incoming"
"You got first kill, so let me have my fun as well!" Selene as she pointed her index finger at the first visible kobold heading towards them.
"Fire arrow"
whoosh!!
BOOM!
Three kobolds were obliterated in succession.
"Too easy" Selene blowing on her index finger like the cowboys do in the movies after using their revolver
Flick*
"Dumba*s, save your mana for later" Theo flicked Selene's forehead for her negligence
"Ouch! you didn't have to be so rough!" pouted Selene.
Ignoring Selene, Theo dashed forward and decapitated another two kobolds that pounced on him.
Roar!
Theo spun and kicked the other kobold that tried to stab him from behind. Another one was coming but was impaled by Selene's scythe before landing his attack on Theo.
"Your welcome"
"I had it"
"Hmph, at least be thankful-!" swinging her scythe to slice off the torso of another kobold.
All five remaining kobolds, uncaring for their safety lunged towards the two but were all sliced in half without being able to do anything.
"And, that's all of them"
"Good job" Theo said as he kept walking forward
"Heh, you too" Selene replied, while swinging her scythe to get rid of the blood.
Despite both having memories of their past lives, both were surprisingly unaffected on killing living beings. Themselves in Alethea helped to a great degree as both already combated and killed monsters when they were younger.
But that's only monsters, but when it comes to an actual person, the thought itself gnaws at the back of their minds, especially Selene.
.....
...
"Hap!"
Selene swung her scythe and decapitated four kobolds in a row
Theo impaled two kobolds at the same time and crushed the head on one of the kobolds in the brink of death.
Selene and Theo have been doing the same thing for two hours and went down two floors and each time the amount and quality of kobolds rose. for example:
whooosh!!!!!
"Tch"
Boom!
Theo jumping back to dodge the fireball that
"GRRRRR"
A Kobold mage is an Intermediate tier monster. Versatile with beginner tier magic and can cast a few intermediate spells.
Ting!
"I hate this thing!" Selene, frustrated as her scythe gets deflected.
A Kobold Knight, another intermediate monster. A fully rusted armored Kobold and has basic knowledge on swordsmanship.
Normally, people their age would be struggling and would have already dropped dead, but they are Selene and Theo.
"Go!" Theo shouted as he took a throwing stance
Whoosh!
Theo threw a Steel sword at the kobold mage
"GWAK!?"
A kobold mage was impaled by the steel sword Theo threw and died.
"Hehehe!" Selene giggling after thinking of an idea.
Selene slashed at the openings in the Kobold knight's armor
Shing!* Shing!* Shing!*
"Gyak!" The Kobold knight winced in pain and its movements became more sluggish
"Now die!" Selene shouted as she swung her scythe.
"gwa-!?" The Kobold knight was taken by surprise.
And finally, Selene impaled it through its visor.
As the last Kobold drop, Theo took his sword from the dead body of the Kobold, who wasn't even out of breath after three recent battles.
"Hah..... Hah.... Hah..." Selene was exhausted after pushing and was at the end of her physical limits.
Selene had to take three low tier stamina potions she brought in advance just to keep up with Theo who was only slightly fatigued. The stamina potions were brewed by herself as the real Selene was slightly knowledgeable with potion making.
She took out another stamina potion and chugged it.
"!!!!"
But Selene's body convulsed in denial of the foreign substance.
Endure!
Potions are never meant to be taken for more than twice a day. Further consumption would lead to adverse effects, like vomiting, sickness, etc. It also depends on what kind of potion you overdose in. an overconsumption of mana potions would lead to temporary shutting down of mana circuits, mana sickness, mana overload and many more. Stamina potions would affect your body greatly.
The negative effects from the stamina potions, which Selene was feeling right now, body pain and the urge to throw up. thankfully they were low tier potions, which aren't as effective but didn't have life endangering effects like the more potent ones.
A low tier stamina potion was enough for Selene, she had a low bar of stamina anyways.
Selene clutched Theo's sleeve for support, her face showing increasing levels of pain and sickness.
".... You ok?" Theo said with a evident worry on his face
"No.... but we have to do this. All the mana I have is still here so we can still take on the boss before I run out of gas" Selene sat on the nearest rock with her head down.
"Ok, let's rest for a bit before we enter the boss room"
Selene nodded back at Theo's instructions.
They didn't really know if there's a level up system or not, but they felt that they were rapidly getting better at fighting and found the kobolds easier to deal with. He also felt an improvement in his strength and perception.
Selene as well, but her debuffs were just that strong that she barely felt any kind of improvement in the physical aspect, aside from an increase of her skill with the scythe and an increase of her thinking power, which wasn't as useful because of her low stamina.
Theo on the other hand was doing everything with ease and hardly felt burdened, especially when Selene covered his openings as he fought. The ratio of contribution was 75 percent Theo and 25 percent with Selene, which is more than Theo expected her to do.
He felt that Selene was pushing herself to prove that she was useful and how much she wanted to keep the end of the bargain from their vow.
"To work together"
Theo felt a little ashamed for not trying as hard as her and promised himself that he'll work harder to lessen Selene's burden as much as possible, while Theo was sitting across from him, thinking about their vow deeply, Selene called him out, while sneering.
"I've rested enough, let's go kick that Kobold Chief's a*s"
