Chapter 29 - A Battle of Resolve... II

Sian watched through the corner of her eyes the most epic battle she had ever witnessed. The sheer determination to kill each other scared her while the display of strength and power marveled her. However she wasn't meant to loose focus. She had her own fight in front of her but everyone else seemed to have lost focus and were only interested in the mad display of power.

She parried a cunning attack from behind her before freezing the man up to his head and finally knocking him out with a single strike to the head with her bow.

The tension of the battle had suddenly escalated immediately inferno burst into flames. Every attention in the room had immediately been dragged as each of them did their best to stay out of the ways of their attacks. The unlucky ones that got caught in between hits paid the price with their lives. She was awed, never knowing the man that taught her had such hidden power in him. She watched him go toe to toe with the infamous Inferno she had heard about and at some point manhandling him even up untill now.

The course of the battle had suddenly changed and now Nathaniel was on the defensive and even struggling to keep up. She couldn't help but notice how his energy dropped with every defensive mechanism he employed. He was in serious trouble if this battle continued. She had made to help him but Warren had stopped her telling her she would only get in the way.

Harold on the other hand didn't seem as interested as the others were. He acted as if he had seen better or even done better. He had used that single opportunity to mow down almost all of the teachers around sparing no one he got his hands on. While Caleb and Lucas only savoured the expert display of hand to hand combat between the two. Since they weren't gifted with powers as the others were, they had made up their differences with intense physical training and mastery over weapons.

Edmund had grown cold since the fight had begun with Warren having to step in and save him while he was distracted. He was the first to loose his focus on the petty battle he was caught up. His attention was on his father's battle, and it was written all over his face. It was as if the human part of him had died as he watched his father battle to the death with a man he had lost to before.

He desperately wanted to know who was stronger. He had lost to the two men before and watching them fight only spiked his curiosity. He took in every detail of their fighting skill hoping to use it one day against whoever won this battle.

The battle had continued with her fighting the urge to help the struggling Nathaniel. She had already lost Aaron before and she wasn't ready to loose Nathaniel now. She had almost broken free of Warren's grip when Warren covered her in a dome of solid air stopping her act of foolishness.

She knew fighting was useless, Warren was well above her and fighting her comrade wasn't the best option in a condition like this.

She gave him a stare that spoke of the rage that brew inside her but he couldn't care less. He was saving her and that was all that mattered. Warren undid the dome before telling her to trust in Nathaniel. As if already seeing through the entire battle, he was confident in Nathaniel and had said it was only a matter of who outlasted the other.

Sian knew Warren was a battle genius, but right now he wasn't making much sense. Her worry soon dropped when she saw inferno drop to his knees coughing blood. She had just realized what he meant by who outlasted the other. Using such tremendous power definitely had it drawbacks and inferno was definitely feeling the backlash of over labouring his body. But even though he looked exhausted, the battle still seemed to be in his favour. He still had more control over the flow of his power and it seemed that Nathaniel struggled to keep hold of his weapon.

The hits Nathaniel had gotten from inferno had done a toll on him but he didn't waver. He still maintained his stance as they both dropped their weapons promising each other death with their Elemental prowess only.

It was total bully and an unfair fight against Nathaniel, Inferno had just admitted to housing the power of at least five Elementals and wasn't even planning on going easy despite the difference in their strength. Nathaniel struggled but with his sharp wits, he had managed to scale through most of inferno's attacks with minimum damage.

But even at that, inferno's torment only grew more and more by the passing seconds. She wanted to help but she also wanted to trust in her comrade. Warren's words weren't looking very reasonable at all when inferno had conjured up a flaming tornado that moved at a speed even she couldn't keep up with. Jumping in to help now would only mean jumping into suicide and also delaying Nathaniel who had just constructed a mini mountain in front of him.

When it seemed like everything was done for, a bigger wall had sprouted out of the earth just in time to save his life. Her tension dropped upon seeing what had happened, he was alive and well at least. And in a better situation than the already exhausted inferno who crouched to his knees just to support his body.

It Wasn't of any use now, Nathaniel's victory was assured up until she heard the mad Inferno cackling. Everybody's rested face soon turned into a one of surprise and terror as they felt the surge in energy from the cackling menace. His energy didn't seem depleted at all. They'd just realized what had happened, he didn't use much of his own energy throughout the fight only those of the ones he had stolen.

A flaming ball had just appeared in his palms before he rushed at the already weakened Nathaniel. They all rushed forward to help but Edmund had beat them to it. He had kicked Nathaniel out of range before blocking his father's. attack.

Even though they felt he was outmatched, this was now a personal battle between father and Son.

Edmund launched an arrow of flame at his father who countered it with an arrow of his own. His father's arsenal was without a doubt more versatile than his and because of that, he had to minimize throwing out his flashy skills often. He was already well acquainted with his father's fighting style and since he wasn't at his peak performance at the moment, they were evenly matched but he still had the slight advantage because of the Intel he had on him.

He had sparred with his father countless of times to decipher how he fought and he was going to use it to his advantage. Loosing was not even an option at all in this fight because he wasn't fighting for only himself. He was fighting for his friends too and the entire Elementals out there.

He dodged a flaming arrow, sliced through another and countered a third. He parried a sword attack from his father and they locked eyes. No emotions were visible in his eyes, his father was already lost. The man in front of him was no longer human.

Swerving their locked blades to the side, he delivered an axe kick directly to inferno's torso before sending out a blade of fire at him.

Inferno staggered backwards regaining himself just in time to counter the attack with a similar one.

He wasn't going to over labour the obvious, at this point he wasn't even sure if his victory in this fight was assured. Just the few moments he had locked eyes with his son scared him, all he saw in them was rage even though he had hidden it behind his calmness. His son has only grown stronger and at his current strength, he was just holding up. It wouldn't be long before he becomes completely depleted of energy.

Looking in his son's eyes and the way he fought without emotions only reminded him of the monster he had become. This was just how he had began and looking back at what he had done, regret washed over him but yet his pride wouldn't let him drop his sword in defeat even if it was against his own son.

He pushed aside his sentimentality and took an attacking stance. He had already come this far and there was no going back. They were already so close to their goal of restoring balance to this accursed world and he would cut down anyone who stood in his way including his own son.
