The sun just popped in the sky a moment ago, and he didn't sleep a wink. He was too busy caressing her face like a weirdo and reminiscing their time together. It hurt him even more to know that he has to let her go, he can't keep her. It's better for her this way, without him in her life she'll be free.
As soon as the first ray of sunlight seeped into the Hole, he gently picked her up and carried her outside. Well, he can't get out of the temple, and leaving her at the exit sounds like a horrible idea, so he laid her down near the Hole, far enough from the edge so she wouldn't accidentally fall in.
