Chapter 20 - Last day

Rudeus also explained the power system to Smith. Which was really confusing for him, as the power system had to do with born talent and what type of affinity you had, ect..

The thing was, if for example an apprentice with an affinity towards fire at a rank talent of 1, would be weaker than someone at a rank talent of 2, as the second one had more destructive power.

But the rank talent of 1 could catch up to the rank talent 2 if they had more mana.

The same could be said for knights. They would normally class a golden knight as someone who can use mana effectively outside their body.

A ruby knight can only use mana inside of their sword. And obviously most knights are born without mana. That's why most of them are silver knights, but they could also rank up because of achievements, ect...

And if a knight has mana, they almost only focus on the mana aspect as it is seen as something amazing in their society.

This was also applied in combat. If they could use just one flashy move to finish of an enemy instead of having to run towards them and fight them in hand to hand combat, it would be much convenienter and less taxing to choose the first option.

So mana is mostly chosen above other aspects, which was just stupid in smith's eyes.

Because what if you run out of mana? What then? Then you're the same as a duck without wings, waiting to be pumped full of lead by a hunter only 1 meter away from you.

Obviously their we're some exceptions, you don't always have people who follow the main group, we'll they just follow another group, but they think their different when their not.

And what was Smith? Is he also one who follows a group? No he is different.

He isn't one who follows a group, he is the one who destroys it.

Smith felt a new passion starting to awaken in him. He could... - "uhm sir, can I go see my dad now?"

Smith's eyes regained focus. "huh, yeah I'll bring you to him."

A smile formed on the little boys face. "okay let's go then". He said happily.

Smith stood up and let Rudeus to a room. Rudeus knew this room, this was the ball area it's really big, it only has windows on the top so that when it's night-time one could see the stars while dansing.

Rudeus could hear a lot of talking, Smith then opened the dubbel doors.

Hundreds of people where sitting/standing in the ball area, they were a bit cramped.

Once they saw the door open they immediately shrinked back because of the monstrosity standing before the doors.

A few seconds later a little boy could be seen walking trough the doors.

"So where is my -" Rudeus! " someone called out.

" mother! " Rudeus squeezed trough a few people and reached his mother. He gave her a big hug." mom is father here? "

" no he is not baby ". Rudeus looked confused at his mother. He turned around and looked at the other reincarnated one standing in the doorway.

" Sir, didn't you say that I could see my dad?"

The whole ball room was already silent from when the doors opened, but now if felt even more silent.

A disgusting smile started to from on the monsters face.

And slowly a crackling sound could be heard, like little cracker fireworks that went off.

"Yes - Crack - you - Crack - can - Crack - see - Crack - him - Crack"

Red and dark flames started to come out of the monsters mouth ingulfing the people who were standing right in front of him.

Everyone shot into panick, they wanted to get away but as soon as the tried to run towards the door the fire leapt over to them.

The weird thing was that the wooden floor didn't catch fire, or any of the people's clothes but nobody noticed this.

Some of the mages with an affinity towards water tried to put out the Flames, which didn't work.

Fear, rage, all kind of emotions could be seen on everyone's faces.

Rudeus looked with wide eyes at what was happening. He then looked at the reincarnated ones face, joy, satisfaction , and other emotions could be seen on the beasts face.

He then focused more on the eyes, he couldn't describe them, what even was that emotion? Was it even an emotion?.

These questions would never be answered as he also slowly catched on fire. His mother desperately tried to extinguish them but to no avail, she also catched on fire.

Everyone slowly burned away, only their clothes, jewelry and makeup remaining.

Smith had already closed the doors. And walked outside. He looked for one of the rotting corpses between the hundreds of new rotting corpses that only recently got added.

He quickly found it as the clothing on the corpse was made out of a way better material than all the others.

He pulled up the corpse and took the necklace off it.

The necklace expanded on its own and Smith put it on.

It also changed forms, before it looked like an normal iron necklace with white lines extending from it. But now it looked totally different.

It now looked just like a plain black necklace.

Smith then slowly stepped over the corpses, leaving the fallen city behind him.
