Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Dark Past.

Both of them were silent after that. No one sent anything. Finally, Hunter took a deep breath and finally started typing.

" Well, I have one more important thing to tell you about my past."

" Hmm. Say it."

" It's not a very good thing and if you have any problem with me after that, I will willingly accept it. I won't blame you if you don't want to marry me. It's all your choice."

" ...Okay."

" ...I was quite rebellious in my teenage. When I was 17, I made some friends. They were spoiled second-generation kids. And I was among them. After I turned 18, I had a conflict with my parents and left home. I hung out with them day and night. They go to clubs every day and I went along with them. Soon, I started smoking and drinking with them.

I was a very bad kid. I was rebellious and not a good child. Though I have changed and stopped smoking and drinking, I am still the same person. I can't forget or pretend like this all never happened. I've sinned a lot in that period. I still feel guilty about that. I changed because of something. Then I enrolled in the military as I was supposed to.

I don't want to go into detail but I want to say it clearly that I have a very dark past. You seem like a person far away from bad deeds and I don't want to deceive you. In the end, it will come back to me. It is the truth.

But still, I will only say one thing. I won't ever go back to being a bad person. People say it's easier for a good person to become bad and harder for a bad person to become a good person. But when a person who used to be good goes astray, they have it harder to go back to being good.

Even though everyone's originally good, we become corrupted at some points. But as a person who has faced it all, as a good-to-bad and then bad-to-good person, I can say with confidence that it is harder to go back to being a bad person after becoming a good person.

Once you've truly realised your sins, and want to redeem them, you will become a good person. And it will be really hard to become bad again.

What I am trying to say is, I was not always a bad person. I become good from the bad. But I will never repeat the same mistake again. I won't ever smoke or drink. I won't betray our relationship if we are married. I won't ever do something to disappoint anyone. It's a promise I made to myself the day I changed.

So if you can still accept me, I will be grateful and cherish our relationship. I will try my best to not disappoint you or hurt you. That's my commitment to our relationship. I wanted to be honest because I know things will only get ugly if this all gets revealed later.

You can tell me your answer without hesitation. I won't blame you or anything no matter what your decision is. Whatever it will be, I'll consider it as my retribution or my fate."

Reading his message, Grace didn't reply for a long time. A while later, she sent a reply.

" I would like to think about it. I will tell you the day after tomorrow."

" Okay. I'll wait."

" Hmm. Bye."

" Bye."

Hunter had a complicated look in his eyes. He didn't know if he could ever get rid of his sins. They will probably never leave him. Whatever happens, would be what he deserved. Without thinking anymore, Hunter went down to greet his mother. He spend all his time with his mother as he was only there for a few days.

Meanwhile, after reading Hunter's message, Grace was a bit shocked. From everyone, she only heard praises for him. He was praised so highly that she never thought he could have such a past. However, his honesty left a good impression on her.

Though she has never gone astray, she could understand that a person who has redeemed himself for his sins would not really go back to being a bad person. Because if they had to go back to that in the end, then they wouldn't take the painstaking efforts to become a good person in the first place.

However, she still felt like she should think about this all a little more. After that, she thought about this all for two days.

The next night, she finally come to the conclusion. She decided to accept him. She knew there are very few good men in this world. And let alone man, most humans go astray and not everyone realises their mistakes or redeems for their sins.

And she could understand from his words the pain hidden in them. He probably didn't become rebellious for no reason. Something must have happened. She knew from her parents that his parents are very good people. If they were the people who brought him up, then he would be a good person too.

Something might have happened to change him. It should be very personal that he doesn't want to share. She knew that even though their relationship in future might be considered the closest, she still gave him personal space as she herself ain't open enough to not have personal space.
