Chapter 13 - It's Full Moon Now

Alpha Axton stood outside, watching the gathering clouds. He was sure that by this time tomorrow, It would be full moon and he and Natalia will be on their way back to whispers. But whispers isn’t what it used to be. The last time he was out it was all flowers and weird colors, rather than the dark clouds he’d left hanging over them. He didn’t like it one bit, and he would be sure to change everything.

“What if she does not heal you one day?” Nicholas asked as he stop next to alpha Axton, pushing his hands into his pockets and stretching them.

“Then of what use will she be to me?” Axton answered with a question.

“Do you not see a possibility of liking her?” Nicholas turned to him.

Alpha Axton thought of it. Liking her? In what way?

“Do you not see a possibility that one day her anger might affect you in a way that goes deeper than you losing half of your body, but your heart too? Do you not see it that way?”

“I do not. She is only a sort of drug. Something to keep by my side and heal me forever.” Alpha Axton smirked. “I do hope you are not hoping that I become weak with love and spare her when she eventually becomes useless, are you?”

“To be candid, that was what I was hoping. But that is because I was worried about you. Destiny only gives you one mate. And if you refuse to open up to her, or you be careless with her and she dies, do you think you will ever be able to become whole again?”

“What are you trying to say?”

“You are a powerful werewolf. Ten years of Natalia’s life and growth equals one year of yours. Am I right?”

“You are.” Axton said with a smug look.

“That means, she will grow old and die on you. Because she is a normal human. What do you think will remain of her to sustain you?”

Alpha Axton thought. “What?”

“Her love. Her blood will coagulate, her body decay, but her love will keep embers burning in your heart long after she is gone. Take note of that. I gave her to you because I believed you would figure this out. Telling you has put my mind at ease, and I hope you will work with it.” Nicholas turned away and walked out, leaving Alpha Axton brooding on his own.

He had to bribe himself to Natalia to win her? And he had to hand himself to her also? It was absurd. He felt absurd. His heart, has only been something he felt, never something he used. And now…he had to keep the embers of her love kindled in there?

He turned back and looked at the clouds. For the first time, he actually regretted killing Selina.

“Do you have everything?” Nicholas asked. Natalia gave a quick nod as she placed her things inside a small bag. Axton’s entourage was already here on receiving his much dreaded letter, and it was time to go.

“Take care of yourself.” Nicholas said, trying hard to keep the tears in.

“You can cry, father.” She said as she stepped into his arms. “I will make sure to visit you often.”

“I hope he lets you out of his sight,” Nicholas said with a small sigh.

She giggled, mistaking his words for him believing Axton would want her by his side always. “I will make sure I do.”

Axton was standing close to the carriage when she came out, and without a word, he helped her in.

He then turned to Nicholas.

“I will try my best to think about what you said yesterday. And I will try my best to act on it, but…if I find you to be lying, I will not be able to guarantee her safety.”

Nicholas didn’t bat an eyelash. “Take care of her.”

“I do not take orders from anyone, Nicho.” He turned around and urged them to start moving.

“Will you not follow?” Nicholas asked, as Axton watched them start moving.

“I prefer to run. I have not run for so long, my bones feel so stiff.”

“What if she sees?”

Axton looked at Nicholas with surprised disgust written all over his face. “So you expect me to deny who I am simply to please her? I am an Alpha werewolf, that does not change.”

He turned around, readying his body for the task of shifting. First the hand broke and reformed into forelimbs, then the Legs reformed into hinds. He started to grow hair on his body, black shiny hair that curled in waves and waves. His blood red eyes stayed the same way, and he shook his body.

Nicholas could almost imagine Axton’s smug smile and he broke into a run.

The carriage’s pace was moderate, and Alpha Axton hung around them, occasionally taking a different route to hunt, or just bask in the glory of being a wolf again.

“Excuse me, do you know where Axton is?” Natalia said, knocking on the window of the carriage.

“He is right in front, miss.”

“Can I speak to him?” She asked politely, her heart speeding up as she asked. No matter how many tines she saw Axton, there was this undeniable pull that made her just want to keep staying and staying.

“He will not be able to talk right now.” Came the reply.

“Why so?”

There was a pause. “He is currently In his wolf state, and will speak to you when he assumes the human form again. Please be patient.”

Natalia stopped. Wolf state? Assumes the human form?

“I do not understand what you mean by him assuming the human form again. Is he not human?” She asked, resisting the urge to open the window.

Before she could get a reply, she heard snarling sounds and a loud scream as her carriage moved back and forth.

“What’s happening?”

Suddenly, the carriage stopped and alpha Axton opened the door.

“I am sorry for the disturbance, Natalia. A wild animal attacked, and I will stay in the carriage with you to protect you.” He was breathless, and his hair slightly ruffled.

She smiled, instantly forgetting as he came inside.

She did notice that his clothes were a bit ragged, but she assumed it was from the wild animal.

He opened the small window and talked to one of the omegas outside. Omegas Natalia had only assumed were human servants.

“Take care of him and get him to a healer.” He gave the orders then turned to her with a small smile.

It was right at the time that his secret was about to be let out that he knew just how much he actually wanted to hide it from her.
