CHAPTER 28
Scarlett was having a rather good morning at work the next day compared to the previous one. From what she heard from Lily, it was said that the receptionist was given a week's suspension for her to reflect on her actions.
Although she was wronged, Scarlett couldn't help but feel a little ounce of pity for the lady. But it was for the best according to Ryker.
Pushing down those thoughts, Scarlett concentrated on shredding the papers Arsenio tasked her with. Apart from making him a cup of coffee and giving him a rundown on today's schedule, there was no other intense work.
She was happy though.
Scarlett was so invested in the shredding that she didn't notice someone walking toward her.
"Boo!"
"Aahh!" Scarlett jolted in shock at the sudden sound that came out of nowhere. Upon seeing who the culprit was, she sighed and patted her chest.
"Goodness gracious, Ace. You scared the wits out of me," she exclaimed.
Ace laughed hard. So hard he had to hold the door frame to steady himself. "I'm sorry. But you should have seen yourself. The expression was priceless."
"Not so funny, Ace. What would you have said if my blood pressure suddenly shot up or worse I had a panic attack that then send me into cardiac arrest, huh?"
"Relax. I don't think you are the type to get high blood pressure. You look fine and healthy to me," Ace said as he leaned on the door frame.
"Tsk. It may come as a shock to you that I am."
"Wait... Are you being serious?" It was Ace's turn to be shocked.
"Pfft... Got you right where I needed," Scarlett let out a laugh easing the tension.
"You tricked," rather than having a hurt look, Ace wore on his face a smile as his eyes settled on Scarlett's face.
"Payback is sweet," Scarlett said and shook her head. "I was just pulling your legs."
"You pulled well, I tell you. For a moment there, I thought I was in for some trouble," Ace said.
"Hmm. Yeah," Scarlett smiled and nodded. Then she turned back to her work. "Anyway, what brings you here? Don't tell it's to see a priceless expression on my face," she threw his words right back at him.
"Wouldn't I be weird if I said that is the case?"
"Very weird... So tell me."
"Nothing really. The others would love to have you on our table again. Plus, I just wanted to remind you of your promise yesterday," he tells.
"Oh, yeah. That reminds me. I brought my gratitude with me today. A packed meal. I'll bring it with me when I'm coming down to the cafeteria for lunch this afternoon," Scarlett says.
"Will it be weird now if I start salivating over the yet-to-see-packed meal?" Ace asked and licked his lips.
Sure enough, he was a sucker for food.
"I don't have an answer to that, Ace. But maybe you can do so a little when you see it. It's nothing much though."
"Much or less. I still appreciate it," Ace let her know.
"Alright."
"I will see you at lunch then," Ace stood up straight, hinting at his decision to leave her to do her thing.
"Sure. See you and the others at lunch."
With that, Ace saved her pretty face into his head before heading out of the shredding room. God helps him so that he can concentrate on his work for the remaining hours till lunch.
After Scarlett was done with shredding she went back to Arsenio's office to inform him that she was done.
"Is there anything else you would like me to do for you, sir?" She asked.
"Yes. You haven't told me if Mr Hart agreed to what I want," Arsenio reminded her.
"Oh, that. I'm sorry sir," she apologised. "I did call him but he was unavailable. So I sent him a mail and made sure his assistant will inform him of it. When I get back to my office, I'll check if he has replied to the mail."
"Very well then," Arsenio nodded. "Come and place these books on the shelf," he gestured toward a pile of books on the floor close to the shelf.
Scarlett nodded and got on with it immediately.
"When you are done, help me take a look at these files. Prepare and print out a summary for me," she heard him speak of another task.
"Yes, sir."
The silence that prevailed after was something Scarlett hasn't experienced before. Not with Arsenio.
Well, not that she minds. What will they be saying to each other anyway?
In a certain amount of time, Scarlett had moved in from arranging the books on the shelf to reading the file he tasked her with.
While reading and digesting the words on the paper, her eyes unintentionally wandered to Arsenio. And then her thoughts shifted from the main focus.
She hasn't paid much attention to Arsenio since they met. Not enough for her to realize how insanely handsome he is. It's no wonder the receptionists spoke of women claiming to know him and wanting to meet.
She didn't need anyone to tell her the hidden motives behind meeting Arsenio. She's read enough novels to get a few ideas going on in her head.
'He suits the standards of those male leads in those novels I've read,' Scarlett thought.
Arsenio has a pair of smooth black brows matching his hair that fell over one of them. He had a tall nose bridge and a pointed nose.
His lips were not so thin and they were in a good shade of pink. One that took Scarlett back to her imagination when reading a line from a book.
~"His lips were thin and pink that they looked kissable."~
Just remembering that almost made her giggle out loud. Thank goodness for the control she gained quickly. But not her eyes.
They were quick to find Arsenio's handsome face again. His jaw was chiselled and it worked once while he read.
'So attractive.'
When her eyes trailed back up, her emerald green orbs were his pair of red ones.
"Is there something on my face, woman?"
