"I understand."
No, she understood nothing. They were the most suitable for each other. Their family backgrounds were slightly miss matched but the gap was smaller than with most people. They could understand each other's likes and preferences. Because she was gorgeous he wouldn't be disadvantaged in the least. Holding a woman like her in his arms would arouse the envy of others but he didn't want her.
After a perfunctory goodbye, she stepped out of his office her steps brisk. She was blinded by her anger so much so that she forgot the anomaly in this equation. That tumour wasn't meant to be here in the first place and had no real purpose.
It was when the elevator doors closed that she raised her head and met the back of Quinn's head as she sat on the couch.
"No...," she whispered as the doors closed but there was no going back. Once those doors closed she couldn't come back unless with Leif's permission.
Quinn Quinn Quinn. The name bounced around in her mind as she walked out of the building in a daze. Who was Quinn exactly?
Well, if Quinn heard her question she would answer, "No one."
She was a no one in the eyes of plenty including Leif. In her mind, she was a passerby with no significance. As to why Leif wanted a marriage contract with her? She genuinely thought it was because of the low cost and she wouldn't cause trouble for him. She wasn't interested in him anyway.
"Miss Quinn, you can step in please," said the girl as she pushed up her rimless glasses. Quinn looked around but didn't see Lars. She could only stand up and enter the office with a chilling aura that made one think twice before they enter.
The man was sitting at the desk working on something and he completely ignored her existence.
The secretary asked her to sit down and so she did without any complaints. The young woman came back again with a tea tray before silently retreating.
The doors closed and the two of them were left sitting in silence. Quinn didn't want to take the initiative to speak because she had no idea where to begin. She decided to wait for him to finish with what he was doing instead first.
Ten minutes later Leif walked over to her his steps unhurried but each step weighed heavy on Quinn's heart. She couldn't help but feel a chill on her back.
"Preside-," she said as she stood up before she was abruptly cut off.
"You can call me Leif," he said as he gestured for her to sit down. If Miss Feral heard this she would have gnashed her teeth in anger.
Quinn smiled slightly before sitting down. Leif sat opposite her and poured out two cups of tea with the sweet aroma of almond tea infiltrating her senses.
Her mind was instantly thrown into chaos. That's because there are things people can research easily as it was out there but there are some things only those closest to you would know.
With one search on a social platform, it would be easy to know someone's likes and preferences but Quinn wasn't a social animal. She didn't even have an account as she was a secretive person. A shadow hidden among other shadows and the type that could disappear at a moment's notice.
Thus details like this could only be found by either speaking to her mother and her mother would never expose her like that or they followed her and tracked her spending habits.
This in itself was even more terrifying because she didn't sense it. She was a very very sensitive person considering how she grew up but how come she felt nothing?
"If you don't mind me asking... how did you know that I like... this?" she said swallowing down her emotions mid-sentence. She hated this feeling of losing control so much that she even forgot who she was talking to. There were a lot of things she couldn't control in life but there were things she held on tightly to. Things like who got to know her personally and what they should know. When that steady scale was tipped it stirred a violent storm within her.
Leif's hand pouring out the tea paused for a moment before carrying on. How did he know? It was because he knew her very well but she wouldn't remember would she? Why would she remember an insignificant passerby like him?
She placed the teacup right in front of her and said, "Quinn... you should know by now that I have special means to find anything I want to know. I thought you were smart enough to know that."
Quinn clenched her jaw tightly but her expression remained passive like she didn't care about it. "I know you have your means but I would appreciate it if you come to me directly if you have any questions, especially now that we are about to enter into an agreement.
"You have thought about it?" he said and Quinn almost couldn't catch up to what he was saying.
"I have but I have conditions that I would like to add to the agreement," she said and Leif took a sip of the sweet aromatic tea his insides warm and fuzzy.
Leif gestured for her to carry on and she said, "My mother."
"It's been resolved. You can call her. I can wait," he said and Quinn's eyes rippled with emotion.
She picked up her cell phone and with a few swipes, she dialled her mother's number. Her eyes casually glanced in Leif's direction as the cell phone on the other end rang.
Her glance left Leif's face when it was answered. "Mum," she said and the woman who broke down miserably yesterday was in a pretty happy mood like something good happened.
"Sweety you should have told mom yesterday that you know the president of Apex. That kid Leif is so nice. He told me that he would do anything to help you and that we are like family. Is that who you have been dating behind my back? Yo-," she said and despite the call not being on loudspeaker, she was still loud enough for the both of them to hear.
"Mum, I can't talk to you about this now. I will come to see you. Bye," she said and hung up the call hastily feeling a little embarrassed.
"Did you do it on purpose?" she asked feeling a little annoyed. She had initially wanted to hide this marriage from her mother but who would have thought Leif would jump the gun and say that to her mother?
Leif put down his cup of tea and answered honestly, "Yes... lest you decide to change your mind... Quinn."
Quinn, 'F*ck!'
