"Wake up!"
"Wake up!"
"Wake up!"
A rough voice pierced the eerie silence in the bleak vastness. In this gloomy darkness, a teenager lies on the ground, fast asleep or perhaps even dead.
Not being able to resist the voice, he jolted up on his feet and looked around, having fought the urge to sleep. A shadowy being with misty horns on its head glared at him with a pair of murderous red eyes that looked anything but friendly.
"Who are you?" Troy's voice was low and mundane, as though he didn't care about the gloomy creatures ogling his body.
"Mortal, I see you're not scared?"
"I've seen many things, you could say so, so it's a bit hard for me to be afraid... also I know this is a dream, so hasten up. I got to sleep."
"You think this is a dream; you're wrong, child."
"Why am I even here? Troy furrowed his brow as he glanced around, but he was greeted with a vast blackness of nothingness.
"Okay, I won't then; the reason you're here is because you died, and I snatched your soul from falling into hell. Does that answer your questions?"
"Oh, so my pitiful life finally came to an end?"
"Just make me disappear...I don't want to live anymore.
"It doesn't work like that. Kid"
"Don't call me kid! You know nothing about me!!"
"Oh, of course I do."
"When you were 11, a huge explosion exploded somewhere near America. You had a little quarrel with your mother and father. You ran away from home..."
"Stop! why are you doing this!!"
"Your mother and your aged father chased after you. They looked for you and looked for you, but you were nowhere to be found. Then, when they finally found you, you told them that they were no longer your parents and ran off again.
As the creature spoke, Troy finally collapsed to the ground; it was all his fault—he knew that, and for the past years, his biggest goal had been to kill himself.
"Please stop...please." Troy desperately pleaded, but the shadow creature only continued:
"They didn't give up and chase after you, but unfortunately, a military missile hit the spot they were, killing your mother, who would do anything to make you smile, and your father, who was your hero...they all died just because of you. If you hadn't run away, they'd still be alive now, and we wouldn't be having this conversation."
After the explosion, Troy rushed to the Vicinity where he last saw his parents. He walked on the scorching ground with bare feet as he screamed.
"Mom! Dad!"
No answer came, and instead he was greeted with the painful sight of mangled corpses with all their guts splitting on the ground. He lifted the heavy debris to the side, and then he finally saw it.
His mother's head was crushed to the paste while his father, who shielded her, was now a mess of flesh...
"No-no! Please...don't die! I'm sorry...I was just mad, please. I love you both! Please wake up; I'm sorry."
Despair and hatred for himself caused Troy to sit in a daze as he watched the corpses of his mother and father be taken away... He pulled out a sharp object, hoping to end his life. He killed his parents; that alone was just too hard to live with.
Bringing the sharp object ready to pierce his heart, he suddenly remembered something: his six-year-old sister was still at home, not aware that her parents wouldn't come home tonight.
He returned home with eyes swollen from crying; his little sister stared at him confused; he hugged her and whispered, "Mommy and Daddy are in heaven now; they are gone."
"Gone? brother, what do you mean?" Though only a little, Mia was a lot more mature for her age.
Troy stared at his sister, tears filling his eyes again. Did he just make his cute sister an orphan? How were they supposed to feed now?
"I killed them. Mia. I killed our parents..."
"No. You're just lying. You didn't kill them. Tell me you're lying." Mia hugged her elder brother as she sobbed and wet his dirty clothes. Despite the wrenching smell, his sister didn't despise him.
Then everything turned for the worse. Troy went out to the streets pickpocketing and doing all kinds of illegal jobs his older mate didn't do. He sold drugs but always got a little percentage to come home and take care of his sister, who would at times go to bed hungry.
He cried at night, staring at his sister, clenching her stomach. Most days, he would stay with an empty stomach so that his sister would eat her fill.
But his kind sister would pass the food to him and force it into his mouth. He could only watch his sister, guilt gripping his very heart.
At that moment, he swore to make his sister happy, if that meant he would sell his soul to the devil.
However, life only got harder as the days went by. So many empty stomach nights and a very little full stomach. School and studies were out of the picture until further notice as Troy did his very best to take care of his sister.
Then one day, after a horrendous pickpocketing and being almost caught, Troy returned home.
Only to see his drunk big-bellied landlord on top of his sister!
That day, he committed murder.
But the deed was already done as his little sister wailed and withered in pain as blood flowed out of her private parts. Troy rushed and grabbed his sister. Today he finally made a hefty amount of money. He was hoping to take his sister out for a nice treat, only to see her gasping for breath.
On the way, these were her last words:
"brother. Take care of yourself... I love you, and I knew Mom and Dad also did. You didn't kill anyone…" Tears blurred Troy's vision as he kissed his sister's head.
Then she gave up, her eyes slowly covering.
Under the gloomy skies and the heavy downpour of rain, Troy buried his sister in the same place his mother and father were buried.
"I know everything about you, boy...I know you're guilty and saw you attempt suicide several times."
"If you wanted to break me, congratulations, you just did."
A moment of silence later, the creatures spoke: "What if I bring back your parents and your sister?"
"Really? Can you?" Troy's eyes glittered.
The surroundings began to morph, and soon they were no longer dark and gloomy. He seemed to be in a hall with jagged, spiky walls, and in the distance, he could see twin thrones, one of which was occupied by a gorgeous woman with a sinful appearance.
The woman, noticing Troy's gaze, flashed a rather flirty smile as she winked at him. But Troy only gazes away, not giving her face.
"I see you've seen my sister, Lilith; do you like her?" The shadowy creature asked.
"No, but I'd like it if you told me how you'd bring back my family, and by the way, from the way you speak, I take it you're Lucifer."
"took you long enough. but for your other question, I'll reincarnate you in a magical world. You do my bidding and become strong enough to reach the inhuman tier, then I will bring back your parents and your sister. As simple as that."
"What's the catch? I know someone like Lucifer wouldn't do anything for free."
"Hahahaha! Correct mortal. Indeed, I have something for you to do." Lucifer in his misty form hovered over the throne, and a beautiful man with green eyes, two eerie horns jutting out of his head, and lush white hair appeared.
"I brought you here just for one reason..." Lucifer said,
"TO CAUSE CHAOS FOR THE HOLY CHURCH! And for the entire world of Freya."
"What will I get in return?" Troy knew he shouldn't be acting cocky here since it was this being that was about to give him a second chance, but he couldn't control his greed, and he also needed something to protect himself. He couldn't just walk into the fire blindly.
Lucifer smiled: "I would have been disappointed if you didn't ask anything in return. But for what you'd get, I'll make you the strongest warlock in Freya, and I'll give you beautiful women of all races; goddesses are not excluded."
Hearing what Lucifer said, a grin cracked on Troy's lips. Though he didn't think about women much, he, like every other person, dreamed of having a harem one day. "I accept, but I have one more request. Since you mentioned warlock, can I choose my magic affinities for myself?"
"I can let you do that. Wait a sec." Lucifer pulled out an Apple phone and started scrolling before passing it to Troy. "Select the affinity you want there."
Troy stared at the phone awkwardly.
"Were you expecting an orb or a scroll?" Lucifer sneered. "This is the 21st century, dude."
Not saying a word, Troy grabbed the phone and started scrolling down.
—Lightning
—Ice
—Fire
—Earth
—Summoning
—Lust
Once Lucifer felt Troy had seen all the options, he said, "Unfortunately, I can't get my hands on light/ holy magic since only the ones blessed by God could use that."
"I understand, but what I don't get is the lust magic."
"Ah? That." A charming smile that made Troy doubt his gender preferences appeared on Lucifer's face.
"The lust magic, huh? I had Approdith and Lilith make that special just for you."
"The lust affinity, let me just say, would make you grow stronger by having s*x. The stronger the woman you fuck, the stronger you'll become."
'the path he followed to get stronger doesn't matter.'
"You can select only 3."
"Okay." Troy didn't fret about the number he was allowed to select, so he promptly entered a deep thought before finally making his decision and selecting three elements.
"Great choice. Okay, time for your reincarnation." Lucifer snapped his fingers. A blue portal appeared, and he stepped behind Troy.
"wait, I have a que—"
Troy couldn't finish his sentence as Lucifer kicked him from behind, and he passed through the portal.
"Lucifer, do you think he'll survive?" Lilith got up from her throne as she approached Lucifer.
"I doubt. But who cares? If he dies, I'll just have to find another broken soul like his."
