Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: God Of War

It made Selena think that she went back to the nineteen century. People here have a rather strange style of dress. Only the people who look smart in black suits; the rest look like rock lovers, from their hair to their piercings, their tattoos, and their makeup. Those people dressed in gothic style made a teenager about to turn sixteen feel cool and powerful. Nevertheless, it was strange when all of these guys carried a weapon, one knife, another carrying a bow and arrow. Selena shivered.

"Is there violence here, Mr Althelstan?" Selena's innocent question when she saw those weapons and winced made Mr Althelstan and the driver burst into laughter. Nevertheless, it cannot be helped that Selena lived with her aunt in a peaceful human world; her whole childhood was encapsulated in Sloane Street.

"Each God of War has his or her own weapon. I am not mistaken when I told you about the work of the God of War; we are warriors who act as mediators for God, right?".

"But… That… What exactly is that?" Selena stammered; she was starting to worry; she would come up with a bunch of theories, she had imagined she would be trained as a rioter, and maybe her parents were too.

"Example, me – one in a race of Guardian warriors, will protect humanity from rebellious demons and ensure clean souls reach Heaven. As for the Death Warrior race, they will capture the evil souls and gather the evil demons to send to hell and punish those souls that reek of sin." Mr Althelstan suddenly lowered his voice, and he spoke with a severe and solemn air when mentioning this assignment.

"So… what was the race that my family belongs to? Guardian Warriors or Death Warriors?" Selena struggled to absorb new concepts she had never learned before.

"I think you need some time to figure it out for yourself." Mr Althelstan did not want to go into this too deeply, and instead, he wanted to avoid Selena's question.

"Can I ask one more thing?" Selena hesitated for a few seconds, then asked. Mr Althelstan looked up into the mirror again to look her in the eye as if expecting a question.

"My parents… They… Did they commit any serious crimes?… Murder… Bomb…, Sir?" Her pitiful question this time caused Headmaster Althelstan to avert his gaze shyly. He simply replied that she was too young to know the crimes and that he had been friends with Aunt Alina, so he had promised to take care of her.

Because of her low self-esteem over the years, Selena is not too curious anymore, and she just asks more to make sure that her parents are criminals; probably in her heart, maybe she still hopes it is a misunderstanding.

"That is Liam Patrick Academy!" Mr Althelstan seemed to want to change the topic, and he pointed in the direction of the school on the high hill in the distance. Selena shivered at the greatness and grandeur of the Academy. Her mouth gaped open, and she felt her body gnawing all over; the school she was going to go to was huge. It looked like the castle she saw in the Disney cartoons on TV she used to watch as a kid. That hill is separated from the inhabited land here by a lake. In fact, it is a large island in the middle of majestic land. However, this school is not as modern and fresh as in Selena's mind, but gloomy and grey. Selena looked at the Academy from afar, thinking about her future when she was still vague about the so-called "middle mission" that Mr Althelstan mentioned earlier.

Landcaster land is fertile and majestic. People always feel a fresh, gentle and classic look. Because the forest area here is quite large, mainly green hills. At the edge of the Landcaster is a clear, turquoise sea; who would have thought that this strait would connect to a lake deep in the wild forest on the outskirts of London. The Gods of War here all used their "cars" to crash into the beautiful sea to "rise" to London. From now on, little Selena will have to try to absorb more weird definitions of this place. Landcaster without the giant castles or the brick houses with pointed tiled roofs and chimneys soaring high on the hilltops would have looked like a prehistoric land where hundreds of strange animals that Selena had never seen before flying everywhere. Right in the middle of the Landcaster. The huge isolated oasis in the middle of Landcaster has only Liam Patrick Academy; perhaps that is why the residents here conveniently call the oasis "Liam Patrick's Island". Liam Patrick Island is located in the very heart of Landcaster, and it is both a prestigious ancient academy and considered the most sacred place in the land of these Gods of War.

From far away, where the low hill was covered with green trees, a straight, grey smoke rose gently and dissolved into the white clouds that were swooping down the side of the hill. The hill that looked far away from the busy streets appeared to be a large mansion, old and black but looked quite neat. The wall is covered with moss. There was a childish figure of five teenagers sitting next to a large rock just behind the black gate. The chirping boys and girls: three boys and two girls. They do not look too young on the outside, but they are definitely not dusty yet; they must be about the same age as Selena, she thought. The five of them have been close to each other since they were toddlers.

The small girl with shoulder-length blonde hair and charming emerald green eyes is Helen Whiteley – the biological daughter of the owner of this enormous mansion. The boy sitting next to Helen was Helios Whiteley – Helen's foster brother, two years older than her. He had his jet-black hair combed back carefully.

The boy and the girl standing facing the Whiteley brothers were the Dhara twins; they looked exactly alike: pure white, even their hair was white, and their eyes were blue – a typical British pure colour. These twins look as pretty as angels, the younger sister is Doris Dhara, and the older brother is Derek Dhara.

Furthermore, the boy calmly sitting on the ground was Alexandre Vincent. His hair was blond and wavy, and his hands were playing with the hay as if the little conversation between the four of them could not interest him. Alexandre's brown eyes were filled with sadness, the same melancholy as Selena; he was not very active compared to his four friends. Alexandre's fifteen-year-old face was angular, filled with a cold charm. These five boys and girls in puberty were not much different from the people on the street Selena had seen, still dressed in Gothic style, all black. The people of this region know well that the children are the children of noble families – the great Bellatores of the Landcaster.

"Really suspenseful!" Little Doris pulled Helen's arm, her face contorted with a feverish voice.

"Stop it, Dory; you will not find a more handsome guy than me in Liam!" Helios is an incoming fourth-year student at Liam Patrick, and he is so much older than these four kids that he keeps talking to them about Liam.

"What the hell…?" Little Helen pouted, teasing her brother's conceited words, narrowing one eye.

"Will there be an annual swimming competition like there was at Atkinson, Helios?" Derek showed interest as he remembered the annual swimming competition at his old middle school. At the beginning of next term, at the end of this summer, or instead in just a few days, they will be welcomed into their first year at the famous Liam Patrick Academy. While their eldest brother, Helios, bragged about his achievements at school under the admiring and nervous gazes of his three children, Alexandre did not seem particularly excited. This boy has a rather cold disposition, with no such thing as a love-to-be-popularity, which is what every fifteen- or sixteen-year-old wants.

Poor Alexandre's situation is similar to Selena's in that both of them lost their parents at a young age, except that Alexandre's parents passed away in glory, and her father was even erected a statue. In this Landcaster region, it is not uncommon for a God of War to die because they always have to deal with and fight demons almost every week, and the real reason his parents die from anything is also unknown. No one mentioned it, even asked, and no one answered.

Alexandre was always comfortable with walking alone in the woods on the hillside or relaxing in the wind on the green steppe, and he preferred the quiet over the noise; he liked playing with the animals. Wild in the forest than holding some medals and standing up to speak like some famous classmates in school. Nevertheless, not because of that, Alexandre was separated from his friends. A strange power in the eyes, a formidable power in every breath of Alexandre, always makes him appear with the image of a ruler in everyone's eyes.
