Three days have passed since Rin's death. The time is 10:30 p.m. Kyoto is dark only lit up by orange lanterns. The city has gone quiet except for the sound of hurried footsteps and heavy breathing.
Inside a building still being built. An elderly man could be seen limping with his right achilles tendon sliced open. He grits his teeth in pain trying his hardest to sprint. The sound of footsteps walking echoed into his elderly ears causing him to look back.
But nothing was behind him. He swallowed his saliva in fear as he kept on limping forward unbeknownst to the elderly man. Just above him walking across the wooden beams supporting the still-being-constructed roof was a child wearing an oversized black cloak.
He slowly walked above the man glaring down at him. The man was paranoid feeling a kill intent creeping down his back. The elderly man turned around and looked into the darkness behind him before shouting.
" Who's there? "
Yelled out the old man in a panicky voice. He kept on hearing footsteps before he felt something itching his neck. He rubbed his neck with his hand before noticing a string wrapped around it.
Before he could react the string compacted around his neck. The string started to choke him. As his body was pulled up from the ground. His body swung back and forth in the air as the string strangled him until his eyes went white and his body stopped moving.
The string unwrapped from his neck and his body flopped onto the floor making a loud thud...
I stare down at the body on the floor. I shrink the string with my cursed technique as I wrap it around my forearm. That is all of them. I have killed every single person on that list. I cross out the man's name on the note with a pen before I start walking across the wooden beams.
After killing Rin, I went on a bit of a rampage and quickly killed all the targets on the note. But I acted too hasty on this one and accidentally sliced his heel causing him to flee causing too much noise.
I need to get back to my sister and report the mission. This man's body is going to be linked to a homicide but they should have no idea who killed him. I quickly hop from wooden beam to wooden beam.
I hop off the building and start walking down a path made out of pebbles. I keep on walking until I finally end up back in the forest and enter the cellar walking down the stairs.
I take the final step off the stairs and enter the hallway. My sister is nowhere to be seen. Which makes sense, she is never here during nighttime. I just need to sleep and report the mission to my sister later. I lay on a pillar I created and quickly fell asleep.
I'm in a deep sleep until suddenly my eyes shoot open as I feel something grab onto my face. I look through some fingers as my sister palms my face with a smirk on her face
" Get up, I know you completed your mission. Don't think you can get a couple more days off faking like you're still doing it. "
She lets go of my face while chuckling. I raise myself up into a sitting position and hang my feet off the pillar. I glance at my sister. She isn't wearing her usual kimono. Instead, she wears a black cloak similar to mine.
" Welcome to the assassins of the Zenin clan little brother. I need to explain some rules to you. You will have your own bank and will be paid for assassinations, and as for your name. I have already come up with it. "
Says my sister with a huge grin on her face. My eyes widen. There's no telling what she made my nickname. My hands start to twitch until she speaks.
" Your assassin's name is Mute. I think it's quite fitting since you can't talk. "
She says with a smirk, I guess it's not a terrible nickname but it is quite bland. I just nod my head at her. She extends her arms to her side and goes in to hug me. My eyes widen from the sudden move. Is she going to hug me? I never thought she would do this.
I watch her arms inch closer and closer until her right leg flickers. I raise my arm and barely block a knee with my forearm. My sandals skidded across the floor coming to a sliding stop
" Oh, Wow, you actually blocked that? You really don't trust me at all. It's such a pity, why don't you trust your big sister at all? "
She says this to me in a sarcastic tone of voice while making a sad face. I don't talk as she starts stretching her arms before talking.
" Look at the bright side, Mute. You only have ten more months of my training and you can finally leave this cellar and spread your wings. Just promise to pay your big sister a visit from time to time. "...
