The negotiations went smoothly, and Kalvin could only think and listen to Tony's offer. Even so, in his mind, he still wanted and had to refuse that. Kalvin still doesn't want to be a mafia.
"Still, I can't."
"Are you sure you can't? How many people have you sacrificed just for your company?"
It was a crushing blow for Kalvin. Tony seemed to know what Kalvin was doing before he opened his company. It was a dirty way that Calvin did it without involving him. Kalvin still remembers how bad he was back then. Putting other people down is what he has ever done to be able to achieve success.
"Isn't that the same as what we do? We are killers and dealers, but you are more ruthless than us. You kill them slowly, making them suffer first. Even if you don't kill them, the wounds they get from what you did to them can make them suffer a lot, and slowly, they will choose to end their lives. Doesn't that sound crueler than what we did?"
Kalvin was surprised by what Tony said. He knew it was about him. He knows how ruthless he is that even surpasses the work of a mafia. Remembering his former self made him realize how lowly he was. Therefore, he didn't want to remember himself back then.
"Well, the past is just the past. You can't go back to fix that, can you? You can only improve yourself after studying your past."
"That's right. But still, you have claimed many victims because of your wish. You were very selfish back then, even more than Father."
Tony further cornered Kalvin with his words.
Kalvin didn't expect that anyone would know about him to this extent. He's been working undercover, but Tony can tell what happened before his taxi company existed. It confused him as to why Tony could know about him so far.
"As you know, even if you revealed my past, I would still reject it," Kalvin said.
"Well, even so, you were once more than a mafia. You were once a demon."
The past is the past, Kalvin thought. But when other people remind him of that, he feels guilty about what he did. Even if he had forgotten about it, it still left an imprint on his heart because of the trigger Tony had given him.
"What do you want? Why are you bringing up my past, which has passed so many years?" Kalvin was annoyed but realized that he should not be provoked to anger and tried to stay calm.
"I want you to lead us. I want you to continue Father's work. You must be our next GodFather."
Kalvin thought for a few moments.
He couldn't leave his job and his subordinates. Many people need him, even if he doesn't know it. What he had started was something important to him. He couldn't just leave and let someone else run his company. He still had to be there for his subordinates.
"What will I get if I lead you and your friends?"
Of course, this is a negotiation. Kalvin must know what he will get, both what will benefit and harm him.
"Us."
Tony answered very simply. It's the same as when you pay a bi*ch to serve you. You will get her whole body in the allotted time.
Of course, it is an advantage for Kalvin. He got them as his underlings. They can be whatever Kalvin wants them to be. That sounded good and worked to his advantage—getting them for free—but Kalvin was a little dubious about them. They are mafia and have been educated by Octo, are very troublesome, often harm people, and have had frequent dealings with the police. So, knowing that Kalvin became hesitant to lead them.
Kalvin has an idea for himself. He thought of a way so that he would not get involved with them and the other mafia and still be able to lead his subordinates as the Yanto group's taxi boss.
But if he used that method, he would be like that time. He will return irresponsibly for what he wants. He would let go of his hands and blame others for his actions.
"Okay, I accept that. I will continue Octo's work and become the mafia leader in this organization."
He couldn't clean his hands once he entered the organization. He knew his hands would still be dirty no matter what while he was there. That's why it was better to get his hands dirty now—it wasn't too late for him.
"But..."
"But?"
Tony is confused because there is something that Kalvin wants. He firmly believed that Kalvin had ulterior motives.
"I didn't know about you and your friends. Let me know about you guys. I want you to do… for me."
By conveying that, Kalvin had hidden his role. He didn't tell Tony he would be behind the scenes; don't get in on their charade. It was how he had done it back then—before becoming successful.
"That is it?"
"I need you to ensure all the family members are there."
This is a crazy idea from him. His idea was to get them to kill a family, and he seemed innocent.
"Fine, we'll burn the house down for you, the new GodFather."
Kalvin smiled and lit his cigarette before Tony and his friends left. After Tony and his friends left—to determine the strategic plan for the mission given by him—he stared blankly at his cigarette.
"I thought I was a hero."
He smiled sinisterly and imagined how the family members had died from the fire.
