We shot at them to attract them and not lead them to the base. I also shot in the air, hoping to alert anyone nearby. The zombies appeared, coming from all directions. They had surrounded us, and they were closing in fast. They were fast and hunry!
"Shoot!" I shouted, shooting at the zombies. These men were not trained yet to shoot guns, however a quarter of them knew how as they were once a hunter. They followed my lead, and they fired at the zombies.
We fought for hours, but they didn't stop. One horde after another, they kept coming. They were more than a thousand of them, and they were relentless and vicious. Our ammunition was being drained quickly. We had used everything that we could. Grenades, ammo, everything.
"Souta, this is the last batch of our ammunition," Shana reported, handing me a magazine.
"Dammit..." I cursed, knowing we were running out of options. I had to think of something, or we would all die. I had an idea, but it was risky. "Use the goddamn gas and surround us with it!" I ordered, telling them to pour gas around the truck.
She hesitated for a moment, but she complied. She ordered some men and they poured gas five meters away from us, in circles. They created a ring of fire, hoping to keep the zombies away.
As I continued to shoot at them, I ran out of ammo with my pistol. "Dammit!" I then unsheathed my katana, ready to use my melee weapon. I told the others to do the same. "We have no other choice! Use your melee weapons! It is necessary that we should die for our people, but our spirit will rise from the grave and the world will know our names as heroes!" I shouted, raising their morale. They all shouted with me, "For our people! For us! We'll protect our loved ones!"
The zombies came rushing towards the fire, and we faced them with determination and trust to our comrades. I stood there, in the very front, as their leader. I had to lead and die for them. I had to fight and survive for them.
The heat from the encircling fire intensified as we swung our melee weapons at the oncoming horde. The metallic clang of weapons meeting undead flesh filled the air, punctuated by the guttural moans of the zombies. Each strike was a desperate attempt to stave off the encroaching threat.
The flames flickered and danced, casting eerie shadows on our faces as we fought with everything we had. It was a brutal, chaotic dance between the living and the dead. The stench of burning gasoline mixed with the putrid odor of decaying flesh, creating a nauseating atmosphere.
Despite our best efforts, the relentless onslaught continued. Some of our comrades fell, overwhelmed by the sheer number of zombies. The circle around the truck started to shrink as the undead pressed forward, undeterred by the flames.
"Souta, we can't hold them off much longer!" Steff shouted, her voice strained. Sweat dripped down my face as I surveyed the dire situation. I needed to make a decisive move.
"My men are dying!" Rex shouted
Amy shouted, "Keep moving! We can do this!"
"Fall back!" I ordered, realizing that maintaining the current position was futile. We retreated, luring the zombies away from the truck and the dwindling circle of fire. Our group moved in unison, desperately trying to avoid becoming surrounded.
As we retreated, I noticed a narrow alley leading into the nearby woods. A risky gambit formed in my mind. "Into the woods! We might find cover!" I shouted, guiding the group toward the tree line. The uneven terrain and dense foliage offered a chance to break the relentless pursuit.
The chaos ensued as we darted into the woods, the sounds of the relentless horde echoing behind us. The uneven ground made it challenging to maintain a cohesive formation, but we pressed on, driven by the need to survive.
The woods provided temporary respite, breaking the direct line of sight for the pursuing zombies. However, it also meant we had to navigate through unfamiliar, dense terrain. The occasional moonlight filtering through the thick canopy offered glimpses of our surroundings as we moved deeper into the forest.
"Keep moving! We can't let them catch up!" I urged, my senses heightened by the adrenaline coursing through my veins. The group pushed forward, each step a test of resilience against the impending threat.
As we ventured deeper into the woods, uncertainty hung in the air. The distant moans of the pursuing horde served as a haunting reminder of the peril we faced. We needed a plan, a strategy to outsmart the relentless pursuit of the undead and find a way to regroup.
