After a week of rest, we were finally ready to move. I told Rex and Roger to keep training everyone who wanted to learn how to fight, regardless of their age or gender. We were slowly recovering from our injuries, but our food consumption was too high for our large number. We had to act fast.
I asked the newcomers about the town they used to live in before coming here. The man's name was William, and his wife was Sara. They told me the situation of their town. It was a prosperous place, with many businesses and villages nearby. But when the outbreak happened, most of the people there tried to evacuate to the military's safe zone. So did they. But William's brother-in-law convinced them to go to the mountains with him and his family instead. He said it would be safer there, and the road to the safe zone was jammed with cars and zombies.
They agreed and went the opposite way. The road was clear, and they reached the mountains safely. They saw on the news how their town turned into hell. The zombies quickly spread around there, and the military couldn't contain them. They were glad they escaped in time.
But they didn't stay safe for long. A horde of zombies followed them to the mountains, and they had to run for their lives. William's brother-in-law sacrificed himself to attract the horde away from them, giving them time to escape. He was Denver's father, and he died a hero.
They wandered around the mountains for a while, until they met Nana, Lily, Christopher, and the others. They were on an expedition to gather supplies, and they found them along the way. They also found some untouched houses and shops in the mountains, and they looted them for food, water, medicine, and other things.
They also told me something interesting. They said they never touched the guns in the police station in their town, because the chaos began before they could even get there. They said the police station was well-stocked with weapons and ammo, and it was probably still there, untouched by the zombies.
That caught my attention. We needed more guns and ammo, especially after the horde attack. Their town was larger than ours, but they said the military had done a good job of clearing the zombies and saving the people. They said the town was mostly deserted now, and it might be safe to go there.
They also said they were all police officers, or aspiring to be. William and Sara were both cops before the outbreak, and their two sons were studying criminology. Their daughter was still in high school, but she wanted to follow their footsteps.
With the information provided, I told William to lead the scout to scout the area. He agreed. I told Rex, and 10 volunteers to go. And in the next day, they immediately went there.
3 days later, they talked to us using walkie-talkie, saying that the place was indeed deserted and zombies aren't that many. They also told us that they have stublished a temporary base in a village a bit far away from the town.
I ordered them to loot the nearby villages as they will wait for us. This time, almost all of the men go, we need a lot of hands to loot the entire town and villages nearby. Leaving Jenny in charge we went there with the guidance of Sara and his two sons.
I decided to take Roger, Steff, Amy, Lily, Nana, and some others with me, and leave the base to Christopher and Jenny. They were capable enough to handle things while we were gone. We set off on a mission to get more supplies from the town where William and his family came from.
The travel was uneventful, for the most part. We encountered some zombies on the way, but we easily killed them. We also found some vehicles that were still in good condition. We took them with us, after checking for gas and keys.
We ended up with 20 vehicles: 10 cars, 3 pickup trucks, 5 medium-sized trucks, 2 large trucks, and 5 motorcycles. We found them in a parking lot of a large hotel and some gas stations. We also looted those places for anything useful.
It took us three days to reach the temporary base that Rex had made. It was a school in a small village near the town. We quickly took over the whole village, making it our temporary base. We secured the perimeter, cleared the zombies, and set up some tents and barricades.
Two days later, we were ready to make our move to the town. We had fully surveyed the whole town and looted the villages nearby. It seemed like most of the zombies were outside the town, thanks to the military. They had lured the zombies away from the town, and saved most of the people. They had also left behind some weapons and ammo in the police station, which William and his family never got to.
We took the chance. We split into five teams, each with eight people. The leaders were Rex, Roger, Steff, Amy, and me. The plan was simple: we would scatter and go to the places where we were sure that there were a lot of supplies.
Such as, stores, pharmacies, shopping districts, the police station, and so on.
We hoped to find enough supplies to last us for a long time. We also hoped to avoid any trouble with the zombies or other survivors. We didn't know what we would find in the town, but we were prepared for anything.
I chose to loot the hospital of the town. It was in the middle of the town, and it might have some useful medicine and equipment. I arrived there with my team, and we got ready to enter.
"Alright, let's do this! As planned, always stick around," I said.
"Yes!" They shouted. Reader, from here on, this will be Amy's point of view. Our team immediately took care of the zombies nearby at the entrance. "Maintain the formation, do not get separated," I had to keep reminding them this.
Our formation was: three men with melee weapons and shields would take care of the zombies that would rush towards us, while the four of us, who had bows and crossbows, would protect them. And the other two would watch our back, with also melee weapons and shields that Mr. Christopher and his team made.
We continued to move forward, maintaining our formation. We succeeded in killing all the zombies at the entrance. We continued to go to the first floor. I was not dumb enough to let my group go there with our formation.
