"This should do..." I said, holding a piece of glass that I found nearby. "Maintain your formation," I said and smashed the glass on the ground. Zombies were sensitive to sound, and that's why the zombies on the first and second floor should come here.
And, my plan was correct. With us ready for their arrival, we had blocked the main entrance with furniture, slowing them down. Even if a horde came, as long as they were coming to us in a small number, it was going to be a piece of cake for us.
I led my group to loot the convenience stores in the town. There were many of them, both near and far from the town center. I was a military man before the outbreak, and I knew how to handle this kind of mission.
This will be Rex's point of view from now on. I decided to take care of the stores around the town first, and then move to the ones farther away. The plan was simple: we would lure the zombies outside the town using the road we came from.
Four of my men who were good at driving motorcycles volunteered to do the job. They rode their bikes around the town, honking and shouting at the zombies. "Here! You fuck shits!" They taunted them, drawing their attention.
The zombies followed them like moths to a flame. They left the town, chasing the bikes. The bikers were fast and agile, and they avoided getting caught. They led the zombies away from the town, and then circled back to join us.
But we had a surprise waiting for them. We had set up a trap on the road, using some gasoline cans and a detonator. We had found them in a gas station, and we had rigged them to explode.
The zombies walked right into the trap. They were too dumb to notice the cans or the wires. They were too hungry to care. They just wanted to eat us.
But we were not going to let them. As soon as the zombies were close enough, I shouted, "Fire it!"
One of my men pressed the detonator, and the cans exploded. A huge fireball engulfed the zombies, burning them to ashes. The sound was deafening, and the smell was horrible. But we didn't care. We had killed them all easily.
With the zombies gone, we had a clear path to the stores. We split into two teams, each with four people. One team would go inside the store and grab whatever they could, while the other team would guard the entrance and the vehicles. We had two cars and two trucks with us, enough to carry the loot.
We moved quickly and quietly, not wanting to attract any more zombies. We looted the stores one by one, filling our bags and boxes with supplies. We found some canned food, bottled water, snacks, cigarettes, batteries, and other things. We also checked the cash registers and the safes, hoping to find some money or valuables. We didn't know if they would be useful in this new world, but we took them anyway.
We hoped to find enough supplies to last us for a long time. We also hoped to avoid any trouble with the zombies or other survivors. We didn't know what we would find in the town, but we were prepared for anything.
Switching to Steff's group, they have decided to loot the shopping district. This is the story from Steff's point of view.
I was standing and looking at the zombies with my binoculars, hiding inside a random house we had cleared near the shopping district.
"Looks like Rex's plan was successful, let's move too," I said to my team and headed to the shopping district. Me and Rex had agreed to loot the stores here together. He would be in charge of the stores far from the shopping district, while my group would loot the ones closer to it.
We used two large trucks to block the shopping district's entrance. My team members were also on top of the trucks, so that the formation wouldn't break if a sudden zombie appeared. I then pressed the horn until the zombies arrived. My plan was to pair up the eight of them. Each pair would use three crossbows. The tactic was simple: one person in front would aim and shoot the crossbow, while his or her partner would reload the crossbow. With this, they could fire three bolts in only 10 seconds. And since there were four pairs, they could fire 12 bolts in just 10 seconds.
We could only use this plan because we had a lot of bolts created by Christopher and his team. It was a good tactic, but it had a downside: it needed a lot of manpower to do so. And also, we didn't have anyone to protect them from behind. And that's where I came into play.
I would single-handedly fight them head-on, and hope that my team would kill all the zombies before I died first. I took out my two military daggers we had looted in the past, and faced them alone.
I felt a surge of adrenaline as I ran towards the horde of zombies. They were mindless and slow, but there were so many of them it seems that the fast ones run towards the bait of Rex. I had to be careful not to get surrounded or bitten. I slashed and stabbed at their heads, trying to make every strike count. I dodged and rolled, avoiding their grasping hands and snapping jaws. I felt the blood splatter on my face and clothes, but I didn't care. I was in survival mode, and nothing else mattered.
I glanced at the trucks, and saw that my team was doing well. They were shooting the zombies with precision and speed, thinning their numbers. I saw some of them fall to the ground, pierced by the bolts. I smiled, knowing that we were winning. We were going to loot this place, and get out alive.
This is the story of Roger's group. That kid, the leader of ours, had told me to clear this building while they would clear the one opposite to it. This buildings are in the middle of the town. These two tower-like buildings were the largest ones in this town. He had instructed me to look for anything useful in this place and clear it of zombies. Now we were just taking what we could find, which was mostly some food and some working vehicles. This place was filled with offices, nothing much of value.
Suddenly, I saw someone running towards us, panting. He said, "The leader ordered that you blow up this building. He also said that you have to make sure the building will collapse on the road."
"What? These are all... explosives! Where did he get these?" I asked, incredulous.
"He said that he traded them for some guns from the group in the town," the messenger said.
"This kid is really something," I said, shaking my head. He was really something, wasn't he? To think that he would blow up this whole place! What a monster! Even for a mercenary like me, I had never thought of dealing with the zombies that way.
