Chereads / WRATH OF A SISTER / Chapter 38 - An intense moments

Chapter 38 - An intense moments

Starting from all the incidents that happened in the past and all the detailed occurrences concerning their parent's case which Sam hid from his sister had finally come to light.

As Sam narrated everything into his sister's ears, it left him with a feeling of pain, yet, a minor relief from all the burden he had carried so far upon his young shoulders.

All these years of lies and the made-up stories he forged to keep his sister in the dark had finally caught up with him.

Even though he wouldn't call it a relief as he watched his sister's eyes fill with tears threatening to let loose.

Like him, the memory of their parent's death replayed in his mind's eye over and over again as he related everything to her. It was like a deep healed wound that suddenly reappeared with more intense pain than before.

It seemed the same applied to Thea too when she clutched her heart and her tear-filled eyes let loose across her cheeks non-stop.

Sam expressed a feeling of rage at his sister's crushed reactions out of extreme agony, which made it almost unbearable for him.

He felt like a sharp sword was pierced into his heart on account of the rage building up within him.

Over the years, all the resentments he felt toward himself, the grief, pain, and longing. To his horror, Sam watched as his sister portrayed all those feelings simultaneously which made it all the more agonizing.

At a young age, they had to live without their parents, and thrived their way into adulthood with no guidance or care whatsoever.

Even though they had each other to rely on, it hadn't been easy. But atleast, they have passed through the worse stages.

The worse situations of their penniless hardships which placed them in despair and undying desperation the entire time, like a hundredth times more severe than its normality.

Especially since they never experienced such hardships or discomfort in their lives all thanks to their parent's presence in their life.

But still, they had succeeded and lived through it splendidly, despite its bitterness and insecurities.

It's now time to pay back the forgotten debts, to every person involved, from top to down who had a role to play in their misfortune. They would surely experience far worse than he and his sister did.

Even if it takes his last breaths, he would make it happen. No matter the consequences or the risk involved.

All Sam wanted was to quench this undying fire of rage inside him, and it doesn't matter to what lengths he would go to achieve it.

It's the only thing that could grant him eternal peace and a true contentment.

For his sister, he will make everything alright again.

Even though they still wouldn't have their parents when it's all over, but at least, they will get back what their father worked and toiled for all these years. His wealth!

And it would help soothe all the heartaches and disappointments they have long experienced to this date.

Despite all the setbacks, challenges, and frustrations they had encountered along this long tireless journey to redemption, Sam felt proud of his sister for her endurance, and still, even at this moment as Thea listened to him, she was fighting not to crumble into her despair, and Sam moved to hold her.

The more Sam consoled Thea, the deeper he felt that deep piercing pain thrust into his heart.

When Thea finally fought to pull herself together and became calm, she broke free from Sam's embrace to stare at him with disappointment.

She wiped her tears as her disappointment turned into exasperation, at how Sam seemingly hid all this from her since the beginning, especially with an undeniable feeling concerning her right to know.

It was about her parents too, afterall!

"I wish you had told me all this from the start. I understand you were scared for my health but I had the right to know." Thea's accusing gaze made Sam feel guilty for the first time.

"Well, let's forget about that since it's already in the past.." Thea drew closer to Sam, calling his undivided attention.

"What I want to know is why? Why were our parents killed and for what. What exactly were the murderers hoping to gain in that brutal murder? And who were they? Did you ever find out?" Thea choked amidst her questions.

Her voice trailed off into silence as she stared solemnly at Sam for answers...

But it didn't help when Sam realized the breath Thea held unto in her earnest need to know all these answers, but disappointedly, Thea noticed Sam's reluctance in wanting to let her know the entire truth. He was hesitating... But she wasn't willing to give in!

"Even if Dad was the one involved with them, what was our mom's fault in that? Why did they kill her too? Atleast, they should have left a single parent alive for us. Who are they...? And how is Jason involved in all these?" Thea didn't realize when she raised her voice, but it seemed Sam's hesitations were unnerving her.

Hence, she yelled with an anguish which suddenly caught Sam off guard.

Meanwhile, Sam didn't want to involve Thea more than he already did, and Thea doesn't seem to be giving him a way out.

Moreover, her reactions had shutdown his entire brain system, therefore, he can't think of any excuses to escape this tight questioning situation she placed him in.

But before he could open his mouth to utter the first thing that came into his mind as an excuse to escape his sister's intense grilling, a relief sigh escaped Sam when he heard his phone ring.

It was Jason!

Sam moved to pick it up but Thea used her quick wits to snatch the phone away from his reach to keep him from answering.

"Thea No! Give it to me..." Sam stretched his hand to take back the phone but she withdrew it out of his reach.

"Thea, it's Jason.. hand it over! I need to answer this call, it's important!.." Sam informed pleasantly, as if to not add to Thea's already stressed mood.

"Hmm, hmm No! that's exactly why I took the phone, because it's Jason. You know I never liked your friendship with him. I really can't stand him, especially after what he put Rhea through in the past." Thea emphasized.

Hence, Sam became more desperate and chased Thea around the room to take his phone and answer the still-ringing phone.

"Sam stop! or I throw it on the floor... You didn't answer any of my questions and all of the sudden, your boss is calling. I need answers now! So you better start talking... You keep wagging your tail anytime that Jason calls you. Why is he so important to you?" Thea stressed, never giving into her Brother's pleas.

"Thea.. I am this close to meeting the man behind our parent's murder and what you are doing now is being a stumbling block on the way. You are going to regret it if you don't give me my phone right now!" Sam was slowly losing his patience.

This was all it took for Thea to quickly hand over the phone in a flash.

"It's true! So Jason has something to do with the people related to our parent's murder, afterall." This realization was beginning to become clear as Thea's mind pondered over it.

The more her thoughts dwelled on other potential directions along those lines, the more she weighs the options of linking the pieces of her thoughts to what Sam reported regarding their family lawyer... Antony Spencer.

The certainty of her reasoning was beginning to make sense in her head and she suddenly spelled it out.

"You said our family lawyer called you right before he was shot to confess about some wrong he did and ended up blaming Dad right?" Thea asked inquisitively as Sam fidgeted with his phone to call Jason back since the call ended before Thea handed the phone to him.

"Yup! That's what I said..." Sam murmured as he placed the phone to his ear in answer to Thea's question.

"What are you curious about?" He motioned in question to Thea with his chin.

"Nothing! I am just curious about something! Did you believe everything he told you about Dad being the bad guy?" Thea didn't wait for a response since Sam had his full concentration on his outgoing call to Jason.

"Because, from what I can remember, Anthony was the rowdy Lawyer behind Jason when Rhea's drug overdose case happened years ago. That means, he was already entangled with the bad guys himself. And my opinion is that he might have a hand in Dad's death too." Thea reasoned inaudibly to her disappointment since she thought Sam wasn't paying attention.

But she was wrong, that realization finally struck Sam like thunderbolts.

So that was the link he was missing all these while!

Why didn't he ever question the Lawyer's involvement all this time and only blamed his Dad for getting involved with the syndicate? Could their Dad be innocent like Edmond proclaimed in the past?

Why didn't he ever question that his Dad might be innocent, and that, all these were a jumbled-up misunderstanding created by the Lawyer for a benefit.

Even though he never expected to die so soon after spilling the beans.

"I am beginning to think that Lawyer made up everything. Could it be that he was accusing Dad when he might be the bad guy instead.." Thea paused in her speech to contemplate on something.

"I could vividly remember his unruly attacks on Rhea in court just to defend Jason and grant his freedom, despite knowing Jason was in the wrong. That Lawyer has no ethics whatsoever. So I don't think we should trust anything he says."

Thea's words rung like a ticking time bomb then Booom!! into Sam's ears.

Finally! the connection.

What Thea just confessed to changed everything from his perspective.

Could his Dad be innocent of what the Lawyer accused him of? But what evidence were the people after when they shot him? Did they ever find that evidence or was it still hidden till date?

Could it be the reason why that evil monster who killed his parents still agreed for him to work under him, so he could retrieve the evidence he thought he was holding unto for their family Lawyer?

No! if that was the case, he would have been tortured long back and Thea held captive for that information.

But what other link was he still missing about his Dad? Does he have to start everything from the beginning? Should he heed Edmond's words about his Dad's innocence? That he was set-up?

Even Sam knew their family lawyer could be cunning, but what could have triggered him to place that last call to him that night? Did he have a more detailed explanation to confess?

Moreover, what could be the content of the evidence they talked about?

As all these confusing thoughts penetrated its realities into Sam's mind, Jason picked up his call on the other end.

"So, are you ready to meet the Boss?" Jason asked foremost.

"Yeah! I am very curious though but eager to meet him..." Sam's reply came with a smirk.

He would now begin to connect all the dots and clear his Dad's name if his Dad was indeed innocent.

After all, he just realized his Dad wasn't that kind of person, even though it really shocked him when he thought his Dad changed for the worse, but it seems he was wrong about Dad all along.

"Where are you? A car will come to pick you up! Are you still at the house?" Jason asked.

"I had something to do in town. I am on my way back! Are you sure it's okay to go alone without you?" Sam asked wondering why he was called alone without Jason.

"Nope! As I told you, this could be a test to see what you are capable of. All the best! I have to go." Jason ended the call.

And here came Sam's sudden suspicions about what could be brewing inside the mind of his to-be boss.

Well, a new phase of his plans was about to unfold. So what does it matter now?

But since it was a moment he had long awaited, he wouldn't miss it for anything.

Sam hurriedly reached out for the envelope underneath the couch to his sister's inquisitive eyes.

"No more questions... I have to go now. We will have a serious talk when I get back. But a favor Thea, stay here and don't move an inch. By the way, you are free to do anything but don't leave this place. I don't want anyone else to know where to find you at the moment since it's going to get dangerous." Sam instructed.

"Are you sure about this? like getting involved with Dad's murderers and all? What if you get killed too." Thea asked worriedly.

"I would have been killed already if that was their intention but I doubt it now. Besides, they have other plans in recruiting me despite knowing I am also a Wilby, but unluckily for them, I also have something up my sleeves... My reasons for joining. Don't worry Thea, I would be careful. And don't answer any phone calls placed through the Motel's line, okay?" Sam uttered as he made his way to the door in a hurry.

"Okay!" This was Thea's solemn answer mixed with worry and disappointment. She knew there was no way she could change Sam's mind the moment he intends on doing something dangerous. All she had to do was hope everything turns out for the better.

Meanwhile, Sam was unlucky enough to move closer to the wall facing the opposite room where Kristine was eavesdropping to answer his phonecall with Jason.

This time around, Kristine heard everything, word for word, concerning what Sam and Jason discussed.

This filled Kristine with rage as she quickly exited her room in a hurry to confront Sam, especially when she heard from their discussion, the lack of remorse or guilt in whatever they both did to her sister, Rhea.
