Chapter 1 - Taken

"Penny, Penny, come here boy!" - A small boy from Danderyd Municipality was calling for his puppy.

A leaf magnificently flickered down the street in a quiet and rich neighborhood north of Stockholm, Sweden and behind it chased the small puppy; leading his young owner on a chase.

"Come on, Let's go!" - The small boy called out for his puppy to return.

He followed his new labrador retriever onto a trail behind the large homes that filled the cul de sac. Both of their minor feet left traces in the dark mud. Their shadows grew further and further apart. Knowing that his parents would be looking for him soon; for the night fell quickly during this time of year, he tried to hurry.

At first he believed the voice he heard to be his mother's but then he could not quite identify the soft voice that began to call the name of his puppy. It was very imitated and familiarly intimate, but still he was not quite sure. So elevated was his senses when he continued down the trail and found the leaf that Penny was chasing twirling and floating in the air. Behind it a beautiful woman standing with her arm extended and Penny sitting at her feet, gazing up at her.

"Looking for your dog?" - She asked, speaking with an accent.

A facial expression which resembled itself in absolute shock. Though he was not frightened due to her representation which was reassuring and comforting; still speechless he stood.

"Do you have a name by chance?" - She grew excited.

" Lugar." - said the small boy.

" Lugar and Penny, what very nice names you have." - Her excitement was caught in a loop.

"Well here, you can come take your puppy. " - She said.

"Wait, well what's your name?" - Lugar asked as he was keen on taking back his puppy.

"Vilomah, do you shake hands?" - Asked his admirer, as she hiked up her dress to kneel down.

Lugar began to make his way across the short distance to embrace her, when frantically she stood up. Nostrils flared and eyes clenched.

" Someone is coming, come stand behind me." - She spoke with great haste.

The entrance way to the path began to warp, fade, and misdirect any incoming wind. A dark figure appeared and progressed towards them both in a very direct manner. Out of it, a man formulated.

"He will not replace our son." - He too carried an accent.

Vilomah shoved Lugar further behind her before whipping a ball of fire at her husband. The flame halted right before his face; his mind was engrossed and held captive for a time. Giving the much smaller two a brief moment to escape into the trees.

" Sit, sit, don't make a sound, I will protect you." - She whispered as she helped him hide behind some bushes.

Lugar was in a state of shock; although very independent for his age, he still had been deaf and blind to this world. Now that innocence was being stripped away from him. His eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing but surely his heart stood firm and so he remained silent and continued to demonstrate courage.

"Vilomah! How dare you curse me with the memories of our beloved son!" - Her husband hollered.

The blaze that was launched at him possessed the memories of the son they once lost, one thousand years ago. He had reached his hand into the firestorm to embrace his child and was struck by the fierce flame, freeing him from his captivity.

"Vilomah!" - He screamed.

Lugar held onto Penny as the yells faded and then, complete silence. Everything grew stale and without warning his ears popped and the atmosphere grew stiff. He took a peek through his assigned place and saw his admirer standing in the brush just ahead. Her fist clenched; with her legs spread apart. A black stallion appeared, emanating a powerful and dominant air, dashing past Vilomah. While the horse was "en passant" they locked eyes and within the eye of the stallion was visions of her son as an infant, being held by his mother. The optical impact induced her to collapse. Vilomah's body was immobilized by grief and she just laid on the ground without apparent thought, only tears falling from her face. The immaculate stallion metamorphosed back into its original form, being her husband. Who now was removing a dagger, redirecting his attention to Lugar.

" He will not replace our son. "- Was his announcement before easily locating Lugar and taking matters into his own hands. "I'm sorry you had to witness this." - He continued.

His blade carefully glided across the juggler of Penny causing a spritz of blood to jut out at Lugar's shirt and mouth. Lugar was now pale as pearls and he stumbled back, turning in order to run away. He was able to let go a very terrifying scream that released Vilomah from her trance.

Still on her side, she slowly rolled over and pointed at Lugar blowing from her mouth in his direction before releasing three words, " Wer vi lu!"

Lugar fell mid stride and was now unconscious. Her husband was extremely exasperated nonetheless he put his anger aside and tended to his wife helping her to her feet.

" What do you make of the boy, did he survive?" - She asked.

" My love, in one year this boy will turn into a werewolf. Let us leave all of this illusion behind." - Her husband communicated patiently and with care in order to comfort her.
