Lauren Xavier lay dying on the battlefield, while the fierce sounds of fighting between the vampires and werewolves raged against her.Â
"If only I had the power to help myself, this wouldn't have happened. I wouldn't have been a burden to others, especially my sister. I wonder how it feels to be powerful, and considered an equal."
She laughed bitterly.
"If only I could change my fate, then I'll gladly reverse it all the way to the top."Â
"Sister! Who did this to you?"Â
Elyse Xavier appeared at her side and started tending to her wounds, before a she-wolf appeared, and almost inflicted a lethal wound on her arm.Â
"Don't interfere with me when I'm tending to my sister."Â
Elyse's eyes turned blood red.Â
She bared her fangs at the she-wolf, then appeared in front of the she-wolf.Â
She made the she-wolf levitate and gasp for air for a few minutes, before dropping her opponent down to the ground with a loud thud.Â
Before her opponent could get up, she made a large rock boulder levitate in the air and dropped it right above the struggling she-wolf, killing the she-wolf in one decisive blow.Â
Before she could relax, another bunch of werewolves appeared right in front of her.Â
She switched to mind control and caused the werewolves to attack each other.Â
When the werewolves finally killed each other, she prepared to appear back at her sister's side.Â
A vampire appeared right in front of Elyse and suddenly thrust a dagger into her stomach.Â
"You're still as despicable as ever, Charlotte Bancroft."Â
She hissed and spat on the ground upon mentioning the full name of whom she once taught was an ally.Â
"You're also as clueless and slow as ever, Elyse. Oh, how the tables have turned."Â
Charlotte gloated, a wicked and calculating smirk forming upon her lips.Â
"Are we just going to stand here and talk each other down? Hurry up, and attack me already, miss turtle-brain."Â
Charlotte, taunted Elyse, her eyebrows raised, and her lips formed into a mocking frown.Â
Elyse snarled at the vampire, baring her fangs, and a dagger materialized in Elyse's hand.Â
She thrust the dagger straight at Charlotte, aiming for Charlotte's ribcage, but Charlotte managed to evade Elyse's attack and stood at Elyse's back.Â
"Too slow, miss turtle-brain. Don't forget that my main ability is future sight. I can accurately predict what will happen in the future."
"Oh, and the sharp end of the dagger I used to stab you with is coated with a mixture of nightshade extract, blackthorn, and crushed mayflower flowers. You should be feeling the effects already."Â
Charlotte said in an ice-cold tone while she lifted Elyse in mid-air with her power.Â
She dropped Elyse with a loud thud right beside Lauren, before embedding the poisoned dagger further into Elyse's stomach.Â
She appeared right at the feet of the two dying sisters.Â
"What a lovely sight to behold. Two sisters dying together. Good riddance then, and I hope our paths won't cross again in the second life if there is one."Â
Charlotte's face contorted into a mock awful expression, then vanished from the scene.
"I'm sorry, sister, for I failed to watch over you and protect you. It was great being with you, while it lasted. Goodbye."Â
Elyse said with tears welling up in her eyes, then breathed her last, with her eyes lifeless eyes staring at the seemingly endless night sky.Â
Lauren's eyes welled up with silent tears. Elyse is the only family she knew since childhood.Â
As she lay dying, she remembered her past.Â
Their parents abandoned Lauren when she was still seven.Â
She remembered that Elyse had to leave Smithfield, and work in Fayetteville to feed both of them at an early age.Â
Her elder sister, Elyse, let Lauren live with her in the big city.Â
Elyse worked as a waitress in a restaurant in Fayetteville.Â
Lauren enrolled in E.E. Miller Elementary School, then on to Alpha Academy during her high school years.Â
Lauren is just another ordinary student at school, as she's not the popular type in contrast to her sister.Â
They lived in a rented apartment unit.
Elyse made a lot of friends, while Lauren is the shy type, contented to be just another ordinary girl. Â
Both of them sometimes returned to Sampson County to reminisce and went on trips out of town to relax and unwind.Â
Life was good and simple back then until they met Charlotte Bancroft, a 20-year-old girl from a wealthy family in Fayetteville.Â
Given the friendly nature of the two sisters, they made friends with Charlotte.Â
The three eventually became close and inseparable.Â
Charlotte divulged to the two sisters that her family's wealth came from the blood banks and a large butchering and cold storage facility for livestock that her family-owned.Â
Not long after, Charlotte divulged to the two sisters a secret she can't just randomly say to any other human.Â
That she's a vampire.Â
Charlotte also convinced the two that vampires and werewolves do exist.Â
She also turned the two sisters into vampires, taking them in under her wing.Â
Elyse and Lauren also knew from Charlotte that there is an ancient war against the werewolves, still raging until the present day.Â
Elyse quickly rose up the vampire ranks while improving her abilities, and forming her own group, while Selene is contented to stay as an ordinary vampire.Â
Elyse got promoted in her work.Â
She became the manager of the restaurant where she worked since she is a good cook, and also good with money.Â
Elyse eventually saved up enough money to start her own business. She quit her work.Â
Elyse's customers loved her cooking so much that business boomed, and the two sisters became wealthy, but they chose to be lowkey.
The friendship of Charlotte, Elyse, and Lauren went on without a hitch, or so it seems.Â
One cool and chilly weekend, while Lauren was relaxing in the chaise lounge chair at the Bancroft family mansion, she overheard the sounds of a cackling lady nearby.Â
She also saw what seemed to be a purple pointed hat.Â
She could clearly see an attractive young woman in her mid-twenties wearing an elegant gown and seemed to be talking to Charlotte.
She quickly whipped out her smartphone and started recording everything.Â
Then she uploaded the video and sent it to her sister.Â
Shocked at the fact that the war was orchestrated by a witch, Elyse told Lauren to get out of the Bancroft family mansion and return to their house.Â
Then they cut off contact, turning a blind ear to Charlotte's pleas for them to return.Â
Their friendly relations with Charlotte eventually soured. Â
They lived a silent, and uneventful life once again, or so they thought.Â
She and her sister inspected the land her sister just bought and was about to return home when werewolves and vampires suddenly appeared out of nowhere and started fighting.Â
They were ambushed. And she suspected that Charlotte is the one who planned the surprise ambush.Â
Before she could react, a poisoned dagger found its way into her abdomen.Â
She then returned to the present. She saw a shooting star and finally closed her eyes.Â
Cornelius Duncan, the Alpha King, is out on the prowl at Uwharrie National Forest all alone in his werewolf form.Â
He is deep inside the forest, looking for an unsuspecting victim to prey upon.Â
He waited for a few hours, camouflaged by the dark trees until he spotted an unsuspecting victim taking a piss in the woods.Â
Then he pounced upon the victim, immediately killing the victim and tearing him up before his victim had the chance to scream for help.Â
After he finished eating up his prey, he scanned the surroundings with his heightened senses.
After he confirmed that the coast is clear, he hid beneath the tall trees.Â
He transformed back to his human form under the cover of darkness.Â
"Now I have human blood all over me. This won't do."Â
He thought as he looked for a nearby river or lake to swim on.Â
Luckily, he spotted a clear lake.Â
He took a quick bath to remove the bloodstains from his hot, tall, and muscular body.Â
After he finished, he put on his clothes, then ran back to the campsite using his super speed.Â
Good thing his companions are fast asleep, and he made sure they won't suspect that he had gone to skulk around in the woods.Â
He returned to his tent, changed his clothes, then lay down, gazing at the stars, and reflecting on his past.Â
He was born to a werewolf father and a once-human mother.Â
His father was a deceased Alpha King who died in battle against the vampires, while his mother was just another sweet senior high school girl when she met his father at school.Â
His parents eloped and married at an early age to the surprise and protest of the Alpha elders of his pack.Â
His father dueled the father of the alpha she-wolf he was supposed to marry and won in a close victory, and that settled the matter once and for all.Â
The werewolf pack has a simple rule in deciding disputes that arise.Â
Challengers face each other in a no holds barred trial by combat in the woods, with someone from the werewolf pack around to witness the duel, and make the two challengers don't kill each other.
The two werewolves are supposed to keep attacking each other, with all attacks and special skills allowed, on one condition.
They aren't allowed to kill each other, only to attack until one of them is unable to battle or else surrenders.
It also applies to succession disputes when the leader of the pack dies.Â
His father also turned his mother into a beta she-wolf a few days right after the wedding.Â
He was born while his parents were still in their early twenties and fresh from college.Â
His father was a rich businessman who owned a factory that produces agricultural products like chicken and pig feeds.Â
His father died at the young age of thirty, in a valiant battle against the vampires.Â
Cornelius was still a young kid back then and was at school when news of his death reached him.Â
His mother immediately consolidated her power and ruled as the Luna in his stead, and also took control over the factory his father owned.Â
His mother had to duel the other Betas who claimed the seat of her husband in a free for all match among the contenders.Â
She won in a close and thrilling fight.Â
He studied at the Montessori School of Fayetteville when he was still in primary school.Â
He then moved to Fayetteville Academy when he was in high school.Â
When he was in college, he moved to Duke University on a full scholarship.Â
He took an active role in the ongoing war as a werewolf way back when he was still ten years old.
When he reached thirteen years old, he was allowed to join and observe werewolf council meetings so he could learn how to lead the pack.Â
By the time he was in junior high school, he took an active interest in helping to manage the factory his father owned.Â
He was a smart model student, always at the top of the class, and a rich, gentlemanly hottie who made girls weak at the knees whenever he passed by.
He also enjoyed dating girls and chilling out with his friends when he was not busy like any other student will normally do.Â
He was also a popular student among both the boys and girls on his campus.Â
He at first had his fair share of bullies, but they ended up getting scared off and didn't pick on him again one time when they tried to twist his arm, and those bullies ended up hospitalized in the E.R. with serious wounds for two months.Â
However, he is solitary by nature and had only a few friends who knew he is a werewolf.Â
After his graduation from college, he helped his mother run his deceased father's business until her death when he had to manage his deceased father's factory with no one by his side.Â
His mother died in valiant defense of their pack's hideout in Southern Pines.Â
He was already twenty-six years old at that time and was at the hideout when the vampire raid happened.Â
He killed a lot of vampires that day.Â
He would have been killed by a silver dagger coated with wolfsbane by surprise the moment he reverted back to his human form, but his mother pushed him aside and took the damage for him.Â
The werewolf pack who lived in Southern Pines, upon seeing their Luna get fatally stabbed in the heart, got enraged.Â
It roused their fighting spirit and made the vampires retreat to where they came from.Â
A few days later after the death of his mother, the other Beta contenders for his mother's throne barked a direct challenge to him.Â
He then met them in a staged trial by combat and won a close victory.Â
He then became the next Alpha King. and managed the werewolf pack ever since.Â
He's also busy managing the factory his mother passed on to him when she died.Â
He finally finished reminiscing his past, and his eyes drifted off to sleep with the tent open.
