Chereads / The Alpha King's Reincarnated Hybrid Luna / Chapter 5 - A Night At The Office

Chapter 5 - A Night At The Office

Charlotte is at the Bancroft Tower, where the Vampire Coven held their meetings and attended to stuff related to the welfare of the vampires, away from the fearful and judgmental eyes of the humans.

She greeted the vampires she bumped into inside the Bancroft Tower.

"Hello, Cyril. I guess you have a busy, er  night ahead of you with lots of paperwork to tackle, correct?"

She talked to an elite 23 year old male vampire named Cyril Owen, who is one step closer to being admitted into the Vampire Council, with the help of Charlotte, who pulled strings behind the scenes.

" Oh, hi, Charlotte. What brings you here at a late hour like this? Do you have important stuff to attend to?"

Cyril replied back to Charlotte.

"Correct. I got important stuff to attend to, and what I'm dealing with is none of your business. I'd have liked to talk with you some more, but I'm a busy lady. Have a nice night ahead."

Charlotte answered Cyril, phrasing her words carefully, so that she won't let slip hints of top secret information that can cause her instant downfall with just a slip of a tongue.

Her experience as a spy for the witches, and helping with the family business taught her to be careful when dealing with information, always be cautious of others, and use the other people behind the scenes as she sees fit.

She went inside the elevator, and went to the top floor of the Bancroft Tower, which is reserved for the members of the Bancroft Family.

Upon entering the top floor, she commanded the AI.

"Alexa, shut the elevator door tight, and make sure no one gets inside this floor while I'm around. Also turn on the security measures installed in this floor."

The elevator door sealed itself tightly shut, and the dormant security cameras automatically turned themselves on.

Charlotte sat down on the office chair, and the desktop right in front of her automatically turned itself on.

She put on her headphones, and spoke the password into the built-in microphone.

After she opened her desktop computer, she immediately set to work making sure that she left no loose ends on the surprise ambush  earlier on the Xavier sisters.

She video called one of the werewolves she left behind on the scene just in case.

"Audrey, report. What are the updates on the bodies of the Xavier sisters? This is Charlotte speaking."

"Charlotte? Is that you? Thank goodness you're finally there. A situation happened right under my eyes, and I tried to contact you for ages."

The she-wolf couldn't contain her excitement while talking on-screen with Charlotte.

"Calm down, take a deep break and relax, Audrey. What exactly happened? Where are the bodies of the Xavier sisters? I need a straight to the point explanation."

Charlotte said coldly.

"To cut the long story short, the bodies of the Xavier sisters are nowhere to be found. It seems Lauren came back to life with the help of some mythical goblet, while Elyse's body is nowhere to be found.  There is no trace of Elyse's smartphone either. It just rained so hard that the whole area is foggy. I could make out the figure of a hooded woman with a facemask on stepping out from the car, and helping Lauren bury Elyse's body. I couldn't find the exact spot where the body is buried. The woman must have used some magical concealment spell to hide Elyse's body from full view of anyone lurking around. Lauren left with the hooded woman after they finished burying Elyse."

" Is that all that you need to report, Audrey? If that's so, you may go. Thanks for your time, and thank you for volunteering. "

Charlotte said coldly over the line, then she ended the video call.

She thought about whether to let Audrey live, or to mastermind the death of Audrey.

She then thought that managing the already strained relations with the werewolves is as tricky as keeping communication lines with the witches open.

She decided against it, and thought about enlisting the help of the witches instead.

She'll just wipe the memories of those she put to use guarding the spot where the Xavier sisters got killed.

She can't afford to keep loose ends unattended, as loose ends will bite back at her sooner or later.

She immediately called Alastair.

"Charlotte. What a pleasant surprise to find out that you called. As you can see, we're quite busy."

"You're always the chatty type, Alastair. Anyway, since I'm busy, I won't be able to keep talking to you for long, so I'll get straight to the point."

Charlotte said, while smiling at Alastair, who seemed to be haggard.

"It looks like you had loads of work to do recently, Alastair. It's written all over your face. Anyway, I got a request, and I was hoping that you'd assist me with it."

"You're still straight to the point, just like before, Charlotte. What's your request? Get on with it. You know I'm busy."

"You know what happened to the Xavier Sisters, correct? And you also know that I used a lot of werewolves as lookouts in case something unplanned, correct?"

"You're right, Charlotte. You want me to see to it that their memories are wiped clean so they don't remember anything about the ambush, and pay them money from the funds of your Bancroft family. You're always thorough with your plans."

"The same goes to you, Alastair. Anyway thanks for agreeing to my request. See you when I see you next time then, sly warlock."

Alastair ended the video call, leaving Charlotte to stare at her Messenger for a few minutes, before she realized that she had some work to do ahead of her.

All this stuff related to the welfare of the vampires sure is tough to deal with, she thought.

She knew it was a delicate balancing act, trying to keep open communications with the vampires, the witches, and the werewolves.

She couldn't afford to make even a single mistake.

She cleared her thoughts, then focused on the work that she needed to do for the entire night, while vibing along to emo rock songs on her Spotify account.

Cornelius sat at his office in the middle of the night, smoking a fat roll of tobacco while drinking beer straight from the bottle.

Right in front of him is his high-end gaming laptop.

He listened to fast rock songs on Spotify through his Bluetooth earphones.

He viewed and double checked every single report his assistant sent to him through Google Sheets on how his factory business is faring.

He is thorough and hands-on when it comes to doing business.

He just purchased a new plot of land to set up a small shop that sells perfumes.

He knows that his new venture is costly, but he will do everything it takes to see his new business soar and become successful.

After he finished dealing with matters related to business and money making, he shifted his attention to stuff related to the werewolves.

He wished the vampires would just leave them alone and let them do their stuff in peace.

But sadly, he knew that it won't happen, as long as there is someone dictating their leader around.

He knew who their leader was, as he paid some highly-placed members of the Vampire Coven to spy on their leader, Charlotte.

He also paid a direct relative of Charlotte, her own little brother to spy on her, as her brother had access to her files and messages, being a techy vampire interested in all things hightech.

Charlotte's little brother ranked next to his sister in the Vampire Coven.

His small but well-placed list of spies didn't end there.

He also placed spies on the witches, bribing Alastair's own teenage niece to spy on her uncle.

That way, he managed to glean  top secret information that the witches didn't want known to both the werewolves and the vampires.

How I wish I could drop this senseless farce already, and just directly attack the witches.

He thought to himself while checking and replying to messages on his WhatsApp account.

He knew that if he directly ordered an attack on the witches, he'd be outnumbered by both the witches and the vampires.

Some of the werewolves might even turn on him and plot to remove him as the Alpha King, or even worse, get him killed.

He couldn't afford to attack them directly for now, or to divulge the information he found out to just any other werewolf.

He had to keep what he knew a secret for now.

So he decided to go along with the plot of the witches, waiting for a perfect opportunity to use the situation to his own advantage, and try to get the vampires on his side.

He brushed those thoughts aside, and switched to his Telegram App.

"Carlos, are the preparations for a raid on the vampires ready? It's a strategic raid on a vampire group led by a certain high rank member of the Vampire Coven."

"What are you thinking of doing, Cornelius? It's dangerous. What you got in mind is suicide."

An auburn haired man named Carlos tried to voice out and protest on the other end of the video call.

"Now, now, don't worry. I got a bit of a surprise planned in store for them. Just go ahead and proceed with preparing for the raid already, or I'll have you removed as my assistant and demoted to watching over the Omega werewolves. You don't want to be a laughing stock among the other Beta werewolves, correct? Now, go do your stuff and run along. I still have something else to deal with. "

Cornelius ended the video call, and then he called up Charlotte's little brother, Gregory Bancroft.

" Gregory, this is Cornelius. Anyway, I got a favor to ask of you. Can you distract the witches and your sister for a day? You know what I'm talking about, correct?"

"Do you mean I should treat them to an out of town trip or something, Cornelius?"

"That's exactly my point, Gregory. Can it be done the day after tomorrow?"

"Sure thing, Cornelius. It's not a problem.

Just leave it to me. Is that all?"

"Yeah, that's all, Gregory. Thanks always for your help. I'll treat you to some food and drinks outside, after this is finished."

After that, Cornelius logged out, then he went to the kitchen to pick up another bottle of beer that he stored in the refrigerator.

He also took out another fat roll of tobacco, and lighted it on his way to the kitchen.

He also took out and heated some  beefsteak that he cooked yesterday, then returned back to his office while carrying a plate full of broiled beefsteak.

He placed the beefsteak and beer on the table, then he ate and drank while he got shrouded by his thoughts once more.

His thoughts raced as he recalled the current vampire raid that happened recently.

Four elite vampires armed with guns loaded with silver bullets suddenly barged into his vast property last week, in his absence, opening fire with their high-powered guns, severely injuring many of his bodyguards and killing a few of them.

They almost managed to advance into his master bedroom before Carlos showed himself, taking out 3 out of the 4 elite vampires by shooting at them with a customized handgun that fired wooden stakes that can kill a vampire if the stakes reach the heart.

The 4th vampire managed to elude capture and escaped with heavy injuries.

Luckily, Carlos escaped unhurt and had the common sense to let the 4th vampire flee back to where he came from.

Cornelius suspected Charlotte's involvement, noting that her signature attacks used poisoned weapons.

I won't let this slide by unnoticed, Charlotte. I know the secret that you're hiding, you sly vampire. I know how to play your mind games. I know you, since you are very vocal in the Vampire Council. But you don't know who the real Alpha among the werewolves is. You think Carlos is the Alpha? You are wrong. Carlos is just a decoy, meant to lure out sly vampires like you. You want an eye for an eye? So be it. But you should just wait, for sooner or later, your high status will soon come tumbling down. And it will be painful, just like what your family did to my mother.

Cornelius thought to himself while he continued to eat and drink in silence.
