Chapter 17 - Helping Eva pack, Shirley

Helping Eva pack, Shirley

The following day soon rolled around, and before Matthew's 7 a.m. alarm could wake him up, he got up.

Though Matthew wasn't used to waking up early, with a cultivation base now, his body didn't need as much rest as normal humans, so he was fine with getting less.

After taking a quick shower, Matthew went to the kitchen to make breakfast for himself and the twins.

Easily making three plates of simple scrambled eggs, Matthew called the twins as he set up the table. Following his shouts, John and Joanne groggily walked out of their room.

"Didn't you say we no longer have to go to school? So why are you waking us up so early, Mat?" Joanna spoke tiredly as she rubbed her eyes.

"We have things to do today. And the earlier we get up to start, the sooner we can finish." Matthew answered as he ate his eggs. "So go wash your faces and eat the breakfast I made you two."

Groaning in reluctance, the twins obeyed and went to the bathroom to wash up before coming back into the kitchen to eat.

Thanks to the cold water from the sink, Joanne was now awakened from her half-asleep state, so while eating her food, she asked some questions about what they were going to do today.

"Mat, what are we going to do first?" Joanne asked.

"First, we are going to pack up our stuff for when we move, and then after, we will probably go to Eva's and help her. And if she needs help, so does Amanda. But I think she'll be fine." Matthew replied after a second of thinking.

"How much stuff are we bringing with us to Colorado?" John chimed in from the side.

"We will bring all of them, John. Why would we leave anything here knowing that it'll be destroyed?" Matthew asked rhetorically.

After his stupid question was called out, John became quiet and stayed away from the conversation while eating his eggs peacefully. At the same time, Joanne and Matthew would talk about random things until the family finished eating.

Matthew took the dishes to the sink and cleaned them quickly before starting to pack up for the move.

The process of packing up didn't take long as the three of them didn't own much, and besides their clothes, the rest of the family's belongings managed to fit into one suitcase. After finishing, Matthew called Eva to see if she needed help.

"Help? I don't own much, but I could always use an extra hand if you insist." Eva replied after Matthew asked.

"Do you want me to bring the twins or just come myself?" Matthew asked as he looked at John and Joanne, relaxing on the couch and watching TV.

"Didn't you guys just pack up your stuff? Those kids must be exhausted. Just come yourself. I don't want to overwork those kids." Eva answered.

'And it'd be better if we were alone than if those kids were here.' Eva added mentally.

Finding her idea sensible, Matthew asked the twins for their opinions.

"John, Joanne! Do you want to come to help me pack Eva's stuff up, or do you two want to stay here?" Matthew asked loudly.

"We'll stay. But bring us with you when you go to Amanda's place. I've never seen her apartment before." John replied.

Joanne also shared the same sentiment and replied with a similar response but louder.

"Wait, who is Amanda?" Eva suddenly asked on the phone.

While she only heard some of John's words, Joanne was much louder with her response, so she was able to listen to it coherently. Hearing both of the twins mention the name Amanda, Eva grew curious about who the woman was.

"Amanda is my real estate agent, but she is coming with us to Colorado for a little while," Matthew answered.

"Why is your real estate agent coming with us to Colorado? Did you hire her or something?" Eva confusedly asked.

"No, I invited her to come with us. She wanted a short vacation, and bringing her along to Colorado would be convenient." Matthew explained as he changed into a nice pair of clothes.

"Why would it be convenient to bring a woman along with you across the country?" Eva felt like she was missing some key information because she couldn't wrap her head around what Matthew was explaining.

"I'm also selling the three properties I inherited. However, if I forced a buy for them in the two days before leaving New York, I would take a huge loss. But if I bring Amanda along and have her negotiate while in Colorado with me, then I can get a better deal." Matthew spoke as he bid farewell to his siblings.

"Have a good trip, Mat!"

"Bring us to Amanda's, don't forget!"

"Wait, but can't you just call her on the phone while in Colorado? I still don't understand why you have to bring her across the country with us." Eva still felt confused, even though Matthew had explained his thought process.

Matthew, however, just blew off her confusion with a few simple words.

"Don't think about it too much, Eva. She's fun. You'll like her." Matthew spoke casually. "I'll be over in 20 minutes. Bye!"

"Wait, Matthew, don't..." Eva yelled out, but before she could finish, Matthew hung up the phone.

'Senior Wudi, being a scumbag is hard. How did you do it?' Matthew sighed as he made his way down to the parking garage.

'Don't ask me, brat. I still have my pure yang even now.' Senior Wudi grunted angrily.

Stunned at the old man's reveal, Matthew was going to make fun of him, but sadly, the Universe Lord cut off the communication before he could.

Sighing at the missed opportunity, Matthew got in his car and drove to where Eva lived, in the girls' dormitory of their university.

Like Matthew, Eva was poor, but unlike Matthew, she didn't have a constant source of income. So, instead of buying an apartment, she had to live in the university dormitories. Thankfully, because of her low income, financial aid allowed her to live in the dorms for free.

Matthew didn't take long to drive to the university, and after he arrived, he made his way to Eva's dorm. However, since he couldn't go in himself, he called Eva to come and let him in with her keycard.

"Oh, I'm coming down. Give me a minute, Matthew." Eva answered as Matthew could hear her running. Following a few minutes of waiting, Eva came out panting heavily.

"You look… fashionable," Matthew said oddly.

Currently, Eva was wearing an almost comical set of pajamas and a fuzzy pair of bear slippers. If Matthew didn't know that she genuinely wore this stuff, he would have thought she was playing an odd practical joke.

"I hadn't gotten out of bed yet, so I didn't get to change out of my pajamas. And hurry up and get in. The other girls are giving us odd looks." Eva panted as she grabbed Matthew and pulled him inside.

"I don't think they are giving 'us' odd looks. But you." Matthew replied as he let Eva drag him inside.

"It doesn't matter which of us is getting the odd looks. You're next to me, and I'm next to you, so we share the burden." Eva spoke as she tried to hide behind Matthew.

Not bothering to say anything further, Matthew let himself be guided by Eva to her dorm, and since hers was only on the second floor of the five-story dormitory, the walk didn't take very long.

"Welcome Matthew to my humble abode!" Eva proudly announced as she opened the door to her dorm. However, as soon as she did, she instantly shut it before Matthew got a good look at the interior.

"Why'd you do that? I didn't even get a good look." Matthew confusedly asked.

Even with his dynamic vision, he barely got a glimpse. He didn't think Eva would have seen something before him that would've made her close the door so fast.

"I remembered something I left out. You stay here. I'll go give my room a clean-up before you come in." Eva spoke shyly as she pushed Matthew away from the door.

Not having a problem with her proposal, Matthew nodded, turned around, and let her go in without looking at the interior of the room. Since she wanted to hide something, Matthew would respect it. While he couldn't say he wasn't curious, it wasn't to the point where he would hurt Eva just to look at what she was hiding.

Matthew knew that Eva was extremely shy, so he guessed it was most likely a pair of underwear she left on her bed or something along those lines. So though it was slightly inconvenient standing outside in the girls' dorm hallway, Matthew was fine with it because he knew Eva wouldn't take long.

Reclining on the hallway wall, Matthew pulled out his phone and texted Amanda that he'd come over to help her pack while also ordering the tickets with her.

Matthew could order the tickets himself, but he wasn't sure if he had enough money for four tickets as he hadn't sold the properties yet, so if he didn't have enough funds, Matthew planned to mooch off of the rich Amanda for the purchases.

'Sure! I get off of work at three, so you can come to pick me up then.' Amanda responded.

Smiling at her response, Matthew suddenly sensed a presence near him and looked up to see who it was.

"Matthew, what are you doing in the girls' dormitory?" A voice asked.

The voice was from a girl who looked to be the same age as Eva. However, unlike the tall, 1.7-meter Eva, this girl was barely 1.5 meters. But she also carried a pair of weapons double the size of Eva's, giving the two a very odd dynamic.

Going through his memories, Matthew soon remembered this girl as being Eva's best friend, Shirley. The two had been friends ever since their childhood and had been in each other's classes for as long as they could remember. But after going to the same university, the best friends found themselves separated by their choice of majors.

Eva had chosen computer science like Matthew, while Shirley had gone into nursing. With their busy and intense school schedules, the two found themselves handing out less and less.

However, that was none of Matthew's concern, as only Eva was worth his time. If not for the woman's Divine Level Physique, he wouldn't even be here, let alone see Shirley.

"I'm waiting for Eva to clean up her room. I'm helping her pack up." Matthew answered as he looked back at his phone, ignoring Shirley.
