Chapter 22 - Final Preparations

Final Preparations

"Mat, while I did say that you can buy as much as you need, isn't this a little much?" Amanda awkwardly spoke as she saw him open an entire U-Haul truck filled with groceries.

However, her questions weren't fated to be answered as Matthew ignored her, carried an armful's worth of food, and walked by her.

"Less talking and more helping! Some of this stuff is going to melt!" Eva yelled to the motionless Amanda as she went inside with her own stuff.

Seeing the girl with such a smug look, Amanda contemplated violence, but since Matthew would mostly get annoyed, she forced herself to calm down and go help.

John and Joanne also came out of the house to help. They were stronger than some grown men, so they thought that instead of letting the weak Amanda and Eva get the groceries, they should help.

With the help of the superhuman twins and the half-step Qi Refining Realm Matthew, the entire U-Haul's worth of food was quickly emptied and stuffed into various refrigerators in the house.

"You guys are strong," Amanda oddly said as she panted.

Both John and Joanne had each made at least a dozen trips from the U-Haul into the house and seemed completely fine. But she and Eva had both taken at most five trips between them and yet they were exhausted to the point of immobilization.

"Matthew, what did you feed them, steroids? They are stronger than some of the guys at Uni!" Eva asked with some shock.

And then, besides the two demons, there was also Matthew, who seemed to break every single human lifting record casually. He would carry multiple 5-gallon water jugs like they were nothing, and even after more than a dozen trips, he didn't even break a sweat. If the U-Haul hadn't run out of groceries, Matthew would have continued on until nighttime.

"Ask them. They have been doing stupid things recently. Maybe you should take some notes." Matthew shrugged.

He couldn't tell her that the twins were in the 3rd stage of the Meridian Opening Realm, could he? So he might as well give her a confusing and open-ended answer to sit on.

While the naive Eva pondered over Matthew's vague words, Amanda walked up to Matthew.

"Mat, what about this U-Haul? How long did you rent it out for?" Amanda asked curiously.

As she said this, she wrapped her arm around his shoulder and stared in the direction he was staring.

"I only rented it for two days. But I plan on going out to get a lot more stuff before the day ends. I also need a pickup truck and a van." Matthew explained as he pulled her arm off of his shoulder.

"Do you need help? I can come with you." Amanda asked, as she looked somewhat resentful at his coldness.

'I followed you all the way across the country. The least you can do is let me have fun with you.' Amanda bitterly thought.

"Sure, why not? I could use another brain to help with the stuff." Matthew agreed.

He planned to get various electronics to keep the twins occupied, along with many office supplies to help him manage the force he would eventually build. Basically, Matthew planned to make this farm in the middle of Colorado the next center of the world.

First, during the year following Earth's metamorphosis, Matthew would make this a safe haven for weak people who hadn't learned how to cultivate yet.

Then, as Earthlings would become stronger and go on the offensive, he would turn it into the core city of Earth.

Though the plans were ambitious, Matthew was confident in his chances, as he would constantly be the strongest being on Earth.

So, even compared to other cities that would eventually become metropolises on Earth, his city would be number one. As in the upcoming Earth, nothing mattered more than strength, and who wouldn't want to live in a city guarded by the strongest person on Earth?

In addition, he would have knowledge of every chance on Earth, allowing him to obtain high-level cultivation equipment and utilities for his city.

Matthew only left Earth in his previous life, after spending around 300 years, after he had reached the Palace Formation Realm. However, back then, he was a cautious and cowardly man who let other Earth cultivators plunder the various inheritances that the Ancient Cultivators left behind.

But now, with his knowledge of the future, not only would Matthew take these chances from anyone else but also monopolize them. The resources within them would be enough for him to speed to the Palace Formation Realm within the decade. And also allow him to build the core city for the entire Earth's population.

Without them in this Desolate Region of the universe, reaching the Palace Formation Realm would take, at the minimum, 100 years, even for Matthew, with his knowledge and Senior Wudi's teaching. However, Matthew only had 5000 years until the three Universe Lords noticed Senior Wudi's disappearance; after that, it was a race against the clock.

Matthew couldn't afford to waste nearly 100 years in the Three Mortal Realms.

"Then come on, Mat! The day is almost over." Amanda cheered as she ran into the passenger seat of the U-Haul.

Shaking his head dismissively, Matthew followed the cheerful woman. She was right. It was about 4 p.m., and he needed to do a lot of shopping before night came.

The first stop was at a hardware store, where Matthew got as many office supplies as the U-Haul could fit. After a quick trip back home to unload the truck, Matthew went right back into the city.

Next, Matthew got some miscellaneous things that could improve the comfort of the house. Since Amanda gave him an almost unlimited budget, he was going to blow as much as she allowed him. The money would be useless in 6 months anyway, so why not spend it all before it did?

The house didn't have any technology besides fridges and dishwashers and a high-level internet connection, making Matthew have to buy the other necessities himself.

With washing machines, TVs, desktop computers, and laptops, Matthew bought basically anything he thought would be useful for the next half a year. Matthew even bought water dispensers after he saw them on sale.

Now, at the register checking out, Amanda, who had stayed silent during most of the trip, couldn't contain her curiosity any longer.

"Matthew, why do you need so much stuff? At first, I thought you were building a business, but now I'm not sure." Amanda asked as she swiped her card, not even bothering to check the price.

Hearing her question, Matthew thought about how to respond to it. But he eventually got an answer that fit the scenario.

"How about this? I'll give you a chance to choose between two answers." Matthew responded. "I can give you an extremely vague answer as I did to Eva. Or you can wait till tomorrow, and I'll give you the full truth."

However, surprisingly, Amanda didn't take longer than a second to think about the choices.

"I'll take the second one. I'd rather be in suspense for a night than have to think deeply about your half-assed answer." Amanda replied.

Respecting her decision, Matthew went to fill the U-Haul with the final set of supplies. It was already 7 PM, and taking the time that he would need to set up most of these electronics, Matthew estimated he would finish by the time the seal would be punctured tomorrow morning.

Back home, Matthew quickly unloaded the U-Haul before making one final trip back to the city. Bringing along both Eva and Amanda, Matthew went to a car dealership and bought the best Ford F-150 he found before going to find another dealership and buying a large matte black van.

"Matthew, why the hell do you need both?" Eva asked as she was asked to drive the van back home.

Matthew drove into the city using the rental car, but he had brought along the woman because he himself couldn't drive three cars. He also left the U-Haul at home since he had no plans on returning it. Even though it was now rendered useless by the much larger and more discreet black van, having another truck wouldn't hurt.

"You'll learn tomorrow, Eva! Mat promised me he'd come clean then." Amanda shouted from the rental car.

"Guys, come on, we have one more stop before we go back home!" Matthew yelled out before driving off.

With four cars to his name, Matthew needed a lot of gas. Without gas, the cars would become useless lumps of metal. Going over to a gas station, Matthew bought enough gas canisters to last more than a year before filling them all to the brim. Should they not be reckless with their fuel exhaustion rate, this would last them a long time. After that, the group went home.

Matthew parked the vehicles close to the house, went inside, and started to work. It was 10 p.m., and he had to set up more than a dozen pieces of electronics in the house.

Amanda and Eva watched him work for a while, but the two women eventually grew tired, and each found a room to spend the night in.

The only saving grace of his house was that it had an extremely fast and extensive internet network that spread out not only throughout the house but even through a lot of the farmland. So, after setting up the washing machines, TVs, and desktops, Matthew connected them all to the internet.

But before he could, he felt something in the air change.

The seal was punctured!

There is now a discord for this novel. However, be warned. It is rather bare bones. I suck at Discord. The link is in the synopsis.
