Chapter 53 - Guidance

There were some things that Tanya needed to witness and experience for herself to be able to learn how to adapt to the changes that were happening to the world.

She needed to completely change her way of thinking if she was to be able to survive and face the many challenges ahead of her.

Having Brick to aid her was good for her but there were always cases where there would be people that would have conflicts with others that had differing views and dealt with problems in another way.

It was similar to having someone that had gained more experience through the many encounters that had changed their way of thinking greatly while another had just been exposed to it.

There would be many times where they would be at odds in how they should do things.

Many of the conflicts that they had over decisions would find themselves repeating on the newcomer as they had learned from their own experiences which had led to them looking back on the past arguments and agreeing with them.

It was just that they were not prepared to accept such harsh decisions and make those kind of choices back then due to them not encountering the manor setbacks that would lead them in that direction yet.

Brick had to show Tanya many things and had to be patient with her when they were first getting to know each other.

He could not just tell her what was the best option and ignore her opinions if he wanted to keep her close to him.

If she made a mistake along the way then he just needed to be able to have a means of overcoming that failure so that she could learn from it.

The zombies that came through the staircase were many and they kept moving up onto the floors that had the doors open.

The falling bodies had hit the ground below and the noise had further attracted the nearby zombies in the area.

Once there were less zombies coming from the ground floor, there was a moment where there were only a couple pushing their way through but then a larger number had pushed their way through once again.

Brick and Tanya did not need to do anything yet and they continued to watch quietly as Brick started to point out some of the movements and other things in a quiet voice. "They respond to smell and sound mostly.

Their vision is slightly impaired so we can use this to mask our smell and learn how to move among them. This should continue to work but that may chance depending on how they develop if they do improve like us."

Tanya looked over towards him with wide eyes. "You mean that they could gain powers like us?"

Brick shook his head. "Maybe not as exaggerated like that but their physical capabilities may improve along with some other aspects. If their senses improve then it will be less likely that some of them could be so easily tricked."

It was true what he had said but he did not wish to reveal too much future information that was useless in the present situation.

The zombies had started to evolve early to become grade one zombies but there was not a large difference between a normal zombie and a grade one zombie besides them being able to move a little better and possessing more power.

Each grade of power allowed them to gain physical improvements to their decaying bodies after they had consumed many lives and had started to collect enough of the viral energy to improve themselves.

It was similar to humans but all that the zombies needed to do was eat as much as they could before waiting for themselves to evolve.

Many zombies had started to appear in the early stages that had evolved to grade one but they were not deemed as that much of a threat to humanity.

Grade two zombies could still be dealt with if a group of ordinary humans were dispatched to deal with it that had the right tools and weapons available.

The awkward movements of the zombies started to improve gradually until they fixed a lot of their defects and could start to see more clearly or could smell their prey from much further away.

The main threat did not come from how they evolved but it was the speed they evolved and how large their numbers were which would keep evolving.

If one or more high grade zombies were among a horde then they could easily lead them towards a living human population if the humans did not know how to cover up their scents or use other methods to keep away larger hordes.

There were many that had been killed by ordinary zombies in the early days of the apocalypse and that number had increased further with the introduction of the evolved zombies but with that had come the appearance of the evolved humans.

If the army or other powers could not use guns or other weapons to protect themselves after so long then they had to start relying on those that had evolved or had proven themselves as skilled zombie hunters and scavengers.

With new powers that were put in the hands of random people that had the potential to evolve earlier on into a grade zero power user had come with some problems of its own.
