Once several floors and rooms were checked over, Brick took a little time to go over some things. "Hm.. how many competent archers are there among you all?"
Tanya pondered a little before answering. "Me and Buffy are the best that are left among the main team. There are a couple left among those that can at least hit a target while others are still beginners."
There were three top archers within their team but one of them had been lost to the zombies.
Everyone else were capable of using a bow but it may not have been to the needed skill level to land a precise shot on a moving target.
Brick listened to her explanation and then gave his opinion. "I will not tell you how to do things but.. if you want to try to build your own group that could be useful in the future then you should consider raising a unique group of your own.
Archers are not put on the front lines so it will be safer for you and those under you and they can provide all kinds of support. The most obvious would be helping to shoot zombies with arrows without making any noise unlike when using a gun.
The ammo that you have will be retrievable and can be made much easier than the likes of bullets. Hmm.. how about this? Archers would be best put to use for sending messages and signals too."
Tanya was more familiar with archery so she was able to understand more about what Brick was talking about.
Guns may have always been the best weapons to use against just about anything but they had disadvantages too.
The amount of ammunition that could be fired was limited to each gun type and some were much larger or heavier so there were some that were not suited to some environments and scenarios.
The bullets were much more effective against zombies but they were far more difficult to make than arrows and required someone with the knowledge to be able to produce them.
Even if bullets could successfully be produced, there would be few that could be made in a short amount of time and there would always be chances that the bullets could be poorly made which could result in faulty bullets.
Once the bullets that had already existed in the world had started to run lower, those that had relied on guns to survive would be left with fewer ways to survive unless they had a way of gaining some ammunition that was not faulty.
A single misfire could be what could cost a person their lives and that was made even more dangerous when the guns were loud when fired and would attract zombies to their location.
Guns were easier to point towards a close target even for amateurs so many would consider using them when their lives were in danger but a bow and arrow would be the better option for dealing with zombies.
Archery may have required more skill to be able to hit a target but each arrow was replaceable or retrievable and each shot fired was silent.
If the arrows were running low then they could be taken out from the targets that had been hit to be used again but if they had to be discarded them there were always other ways to use other materials to make some replacements.
Archery and guns may have become obsolete in the much later stages of the novel but that did not mean that archery would be useless to learn.
Archery could be used to send out silent signals, light up locations with fire arrows and mark locations while it was possible to send messages by arrow.
In a world where most electronics and communication were starting to be cut off, it was far more difficult to pass on messages and warn others of dangers.
Information was just as important to help humans survive and work together during the zombie apocalypse.
Arrows could be used to mark routes that were safe or dangerous, to guide the way and to send up warning signals for incoming attacks.
Those gathering intel in other places or scouting could have made use of the arrows to pass on the information they gathered by attaching it to the arrow so it was a quick and silent way to pass those messages along.
If those methods could be put to use well enough then it was possible for a decent intelligence gathering group to be formed under Tanya that she could make full use of in the future.
Tanya had started to consider what Brick had told her and showed a small smile. "A small group may be possible right now. I will think about it."
Brick nodded in response and then asked. "It is just an idea but if you need any help then feel free to just ask me. By the way, what is the name of your club or group?"
Tanya calmly answered. "Flying Heralds."
Brick's eyes had suddenly brightened. "Good name!"
Herald had the meaning to announce, hail, publicise or foreshadow an event and the flying arrows would be what would herald the new age.
If that group was raised and put to use well enough then it would be a great support to Tanya and Brick in the future.
After they had went through some more details, the three of them had returned back to the floor that everyone else was on.
