After the blue light faded I was ready to see Haru's class but my expectations were completely subverted. The moment it did fade and the dust settled the first person I recognised was Hamachi Ryou. Instead of feeling surprised, I felt a pang of annoyance and even rage. After all, this was one of the bastards that made my life a living hell. I calmed myself down and observed the situation. It truly was absurd. It seemed that instead of Haru's class, my old classmates had been summoned here. I could recognise Hamachi and Arisa. Most of the class seemed very distraught so this must've been a surprise for them as well. I saw someone coming out of the door that was at the side of the summoning area.
'Welcome heroes! I am Bertus von Avalon! The King of this nation! We have summoned you to aid us in regaining our former glory as one of the greatest nations in the world!' This nation was once one of the greatest nations in the world, but due to the nation itself becoming weaker in many different ways its territory shrunk and in today's age it has become merely a subsidiary of the Genan empire. That was the reason that the king originally summoned us. But no one would expect that the demon king would resurrect in a few years in time. The reason that it was such a disaster was that only a hero summoned from another world could defeat him. Since we were the only nation that had heroes that job was handed to us. But for now, the king's goal was to bolster the military prowess of this country.
'Excuse me you haven't explained very well to us!' The person who I never interacted with much because I could never even reach his league was the person who said that. Renji Sumi was in the same league as Hamachi but his personality was the polar opposite of Hamachi's. He was kind and well-liked by all of our classmates. He never even said a word to me though. I guess everyone has standards. He was the hero of the class you could say.'Ah yes, I apologise. Please come to the next room over. He then lead the heroes and the duke families into the large dining hall, the walls were painted with gold, the roof was grand and the red carpet all made it feel like that I truly was in the castle of a king. There was a mage with a crystal ball standing at the end of the hall.'I am sorry for the lacklustre explanation. As I said I am the king of this nation. We have summoned you here to bolster our military prowess.' My classmates started calming down and started to look like they accepted this arrangement. 'We will provide you top quality rooms in the castle and for the next 3 years, you will be attending the academy to train your magic and swordsmanship
'Did you just say magic?' another one of my classmates butt into the conversation.
'Yes, indeed I did say magic. As a matter of fact please make a line and put each of your hands on the crystal ball. It will display every one of your stats. Afterwards, if you just say the words 'Status open' you will see a window of your stats.' One by one each of them went to put their hands onto the ball.
Hamachi Ryou, stats:
Strength:34
Magic power:21
Mana Capacity: 126
Agility:19
Speed:22
Stamina:35
Endurance: 38
Job:Berserker
His stats were optimised for a tank character it seemed. After a few more people had done it I realised something. There were a few benefits to being a hero. Firstly was that your mana flow was instantly secured and that you didn't even need to train it. Another benefit was immediately having a job. For normal characters, a job is bestowed once training enough to receive one befitting of you. In the early game using your classmates as your companions would make it extremely easy to plough through the content. But this would set you up for a disaster as your classmates aren't a very good choice in the late game. I then saw someone that shouldn't be there among my classmates.
Akari Kisaragi, Stats:
Strength:19
Magic power:49
Mana Capacity:27
Agility: 28
Speed:24
Stamina:25
Endurance: 21
Job:Great Magician.
It was my sister. She had a solemn look on her face as she walked away from the crystal ball. What is Akari doing here? She isn't one of my classmates. I felt bewildered by her appearance. I want to go to her and hug her. I want to embrace her and tell her that it's alright and that her big brother is there for her. I was able to deter the temptation but I kept my eye on her nonetheless.
'Oh my God look at that!' people were clamouring at the next person who was at the crystal ball. I looked over at the displayed stats.
Renji Sumi, Stats:
Strength:38
Magic power:46
Mana capacity:257
Agility: 41
Speed: 38
Stamina: 37
Endurance: 32
Job: Hero.
The dining hall went wild. Of course, these kinds of stats would make anyone go crazy. But to me, they were quite normal. My stats were quite a bit better so I took solace in that fact. After the commotion had died down we all sat at the dinner tables. While we sat the duke families were all required to introduce themselves. It came time for me to introduce myself.
'Welcome heroes, I am Mordred Xander of the Xander family. I will be attending the magic academy alongside the heroes so I'm looking forward to seeing you there.' With that, I ended my introduction and went back to stand alongside my family. I was annoyed to see Hamachi boasting about his stats, but there was nothing I could do about it. More importantly, Akari was sitting by herself on a table by herself. I was worried about her so I went over to her side.
'Hey, Akari was it?' She looked over at me, seeming confused as to why someone was talking to her.
'Uh hi.' That was all she said. She just looked back down at her lap.
'Are you adjusting to this world well? I realise that it could be really confusing. Hell if I got transported to another world I wouldn't be able to even comprehend it. So you're doing a good job so far!' she merely nodded her head at my statement, without saying anything. 'Well if you ever need any help just tell me and I'll be happy to oblige!' The conversation was getting awkward so I left her back alone. Is she sad I'm dead? She's usually extremely social and not the loner type. I looked over to where Arisa was. She was having a fun time socialising with her friends, she looked so happy compared to Akari. That bitch! I can't believe she can have so much fun when I'm dead! Was she happy I died? So that she didn't have to be connected to me anymore!? I was furious, but I kept it in once again. I then went outside and pondered on my next course of action. This game was extremely difficult but there were a few swords that could be found that would make it significantly easier. They were the trio of legendary swords, based off of real life known as Excalibur, Clarent and Durandal. Two of them were locked behind the late-game areas but one of them would be obtainable by me as of now. Funnily enough, it is actually locked to the early game and if you didn't obtain it by then, you would have to face off against it later in the game. That sword was Clarent, in the real world it was known as the sword of peace but in-game it was the polar opposite. I can obtain the sword from a cave outside the kingdom walls by breaking through an illusory wall near the start of the cave. But the problem is getting to the cave. There was a month until the academy started its enrolment test, so I had plenty of time to obtain the sword. I went back to our castle alongside my family. The carriage ride was dead silent, no one uttered a word.
'Father I have a request.' I was the one to break the silence. Father then gave me a hard look.
'You may speak.' He seemed curious as to what I would say.
'I would like to prepare on an expedition, it will take at most a couple of days.' While he looked emotionless, I could see a ghost of a smile on his face, albeit extremely small.
'Very well then, take what you need and prepare for your expedition.'
About 3 hours later I had finally finished preparing for the expedition. I took some food, water, a sword, and some daggers. It would be all I need to get the sword. I then went to the city gate, the guards were surprised to see someone like me there.
'Lord Mordred, what brings you here?' They probably don't expect that I'm here because I'm going on an expedition. I don't blame them though, Mordred was extremely timid and reserved. He isn't the type to go one one.
'Ah gentlemen, I'm here to go outside the kingdom walls on an expedition?' They seemed like they were in a daze for a second, then quickly let me pass through. I could hear them mumbling behind me, they were probably confused. It matters not though! I will become the most powerful in this world! And my first step will be obtaining the legendary sword, Clarent!
