When I returned to the estate I went straight to my room and lay on the bed, it had been a long day. I had kept Clarent in a dull-looking sheathe so no one would suspect that it was a powerful sword. I probably wouldn't be taking it out a lot anyways due to its pacification skill.
Maybe I should learn swordsmanship, my stats are fine so I think learning how to use a sword well should be my priority. I think I'll go look at my stats and talents.
Strength:48
Magic Power:68
Mana Capacity:326
Agility:57

Swordsmanship:Lv 5
Mana Sensitivity:Lv 3
One-handed Sword Mastery:Lv 2
Magic Prowess:Lv 1
Enhanced Senses:Lv 2
Glass Cannon:Lv MAX
My talents and stats have grown slightly but my magic talents had stayed the same, probably because I couldn't use magic. It seems that my One-handed Sword Mastery talent hasn't been put into effect because I've been using both of my hands when I use swords, so I should learn the two-handed version of it sometime down the line. My Swordsmanship talent has saved my ass a couple times though so that was really cool. I should work on my swordsmanship and unlocking magic.
I went out into halls of the estate on my way to the courtyard when I saw my little sister run up to me.
'Nii-san what were you thinking? You could've been in big trouble!' While she was glaring at me when I went to go eat dinner with my family before the heroes' summoning, it was only because she was worried about me. 'You could've been in big trouble asking Father something like that.' Us two were born from the duke's second wife, but she died sometime two years ago so we were only left with our cold stepmother.
'I'm sorry Maya, but I wanted to go out and do something.' She looked at me and merely sighed.
'Idiot brother, you don't need to get strong or anything. I'll become strong enough to protect the both of us.' She then gave a terribly contagious wide smile. I couldn't help it and smiled back at her as she left.
I went into the courtyard and took a training sword and started whacking at some training dummies. It felt good and I felt light. I could feel my Swordsmanship and One-handed Sword Mastery talents kicking in while I hit the dummy. My body was extremely fast and I didn't even know what I was doing with my sword but I could tell it was powerful. After a bit I had destroyed the wooden sword I was using. I could tell that using a one-handed sword was also effective for me so sometime later I should go look for a good one. Ah I know one but it won't be available for a while. It would take about 6 months before I could obtain that sword but that was alright.
After wiping the sweat off of my body I decided to read some books on magic, so I traveled to the library on the other side of our huge estate. The library was grand and had several bookshelves with countless books, I had to ask a guard on duty where the magic section was.
Magic in this world all originates from a root that is planted in all living things, this 'root' lets mana flow around your body. But this mana flow is chaotic, thus you must secure your mana flow to be able to use magic without destroying your body. In a bit of lore you'll learn about later in the game it is found out that the reason why the heroes automatically have secure mana flows is because it was planted in them and secured when they were on their journey to this world so they would be able to keep up.
There are 2 ways to secure your mana flow, one is by constantly meditating and controlling your mana in your body or if you get put into an extremely stressful situation and your body forces it to be secure. With the latter there have been cases where it would self destruct and destroy the owner's body but it was rare.
I didn't need magic at the stage I was at right now because my swordsmanship was enough for me but I was planning to use the second method so it would take less effort.
On the other hand the academy entrance exams was coming soon and I needed to pass them to get into the academy. There were 4 trials to pass the academy. The first was to take a magic aptitude test, the result didn't matter but if you had a good aptitude then the chance of being accepted was higher. The second trial was a battle against an orc, it would be simple. The third trial would be a duel against an instructor. The last trial would be to duel other students, there were 3 tiers to this. Low tier, middle tier and high tier duels to make sure that it was judged fairly. It would be in 2 days from now.
On another note I had 3 stat points and didn't know what to do with them. At this point I put all of it into endurance. Endurance wasn't just a stat that determined how sturdy your body was, but also how much resistance you have to mental attacks, it would be useful later.
I went out into the city streets and decided to have some fun, I changed into commoner clothes to hide my identity. I went to a street stall and ate a cream bun. The moment I bit into it the rich cream and sweet taste permeated my mouth and it was so tasty. Man its's only been a couple days but it tastes so good! It felt like it had been forever since I had ate a cream bun so eating it almost brought me to tears. After I finished eating the bun I heard some ruckus happening in the middle of the street so I went to go check it out.
'It's the prince and princess!' People were making a ruckus and I saw a giant carriage in the middle.
I saw the beautiful blonde prince and princess waving from their carriage. It was their coming of age ceremony taking place. Lari and Oscar von Avalon.
They both went onto a stage and I looked upon them as they gave a speech.
'Blessed citizens! My sister and I have finally become adults! With this speech I cement mine and my sister's claim for the throne!' The crowd cheered, it seemed that they would run for the throne. There are 3 siblings in front of them and they have lots of backing from different places so they will have a tough time ahead of them.
Everyone clapped for them and they went off stage and left. I did the same and left the scene and went back to the market area. I saw Lari and Oscar talking in an alley so I decided to eavesdrop a little.
'Did you think that went well Oscar?' I could hear Lari talking.
'Of course Lari, they love us. We're seen as the underdogs and everyone loves underdogs. Even though our eldest sibling is the actual underdog, I doubt he will claim the throne because besides being the eldest he has no other talent to back it up.'
'Yes Oscar, well I think we should train a bit before going back to the castle because we have our entrance exams in 2 days.' And with that they both left. It seems like they were absolutely serious about becoming the king and queen. Though I doubt they will due to the authority and power or their other siblings.
They truly are the underdogs. But those two had the highest chance of becoming the king and queen. Oscar was a prodigy in swordsmanship and Lari was a prodigy in magic. Each of them were both amazing units inside the game but had complicated questlines, so difficult that without consulting a guide, they would be virtually impossible. It was worth it though since those two were both amazing and if you did both quests and ha both of them kn the same team, they'd get a buff and that team would demolish almost all the content in the game.
2 days later it was time for the entrance exams. Maya came to see me off.
'Nii-san good luck on your exams but don't push yourself too far and don't get hurt, okay?' She looked genuinely worried. I wish it could've been like this in my last life. I was so moved that a single tear dripped out of my eye. The thought that I wish Akari was like this in my past life was living rent-free in my head but I couldn't do anything about it. I thanked her and left.
The academy entrance was grand. There were thousands of students in the courtyard and the headmaster was revealed on a huge balcony that loomed over the courtyard.
