'Argh.' I fell down on my rear the moment I was back standing. I was dumbfounded by what happened. Wasn't I supposed to be dead? Holy fuck.
The feeling of being torn apart and devoured alive was still fresh in my mind, thus while I was on the ground I was touching my body all over because I couldn't forget that feeling. Have I really come back to life? I got up, still shivering from the experience. I don't think I'll ever forget that experience.
I then saw a blue light flash up in front of my eyes, it was another status window. It read New tutorial! 'Loads'. Loads are a very precious resource that will allow you to regress back to your last 'savepoint' . The ability to save is now unlocked due to dying once. 'Loads' are obtained from either killing boss monsters or achieving something noteworthy.
Regression huh? It seems like an overpowered ability but I guess the cost is quite large because dying is very painful. I opened my status window and looked over to the 'Load and Save' window and I saw that I couldn't afford to die anymore, I didn't have anymore left which means that I needed to risk it all to get Clarent. At this point I had a few worries that plagued me, one was the murderer known as Leon Kent. He would be a massive obstacle that would block my path if I didn't kill him soon. I bit my fingernail out of stress.
Thing is, I don't know when that bastard will try to obtain it, so the sooner I do it the better. I would've liked to do this a bit later on but I did this at the very start of my winning playthrough so I didn't know when he would come steal it. I went over to the cave again and ran past the goblins this time, they chased me for a small while but then decided that I wasn't worth it and dispersed.
I repeated my previous strategy and it worked once again. Once more I kept walking forwards until I hit the same fork in the road that I hit the last time. Last time I took a left so this time I took a right. The hole surrounding the two paths was still pitch black, so much so you'd ponder whether there was even a bottom. When I entered the room on the right I looked around. There was still a mound in the middle of the room which held the sword at the very top of it. I took a stone from the surrounding area and threw it in front of me, it looked identical to the other room.
Almost instantly an arrow shot out from the side of the wall. No good, if I try to pick the sword out this time I'd meet my end again then it would be game over. I thought of something curious and took a few stones with me and left the room. I walked until I reached the fork in the road again, I looked down at the seemingly bottomless pit and threw a stone down into it. Clang! The stone hit the ground barely after I threw it. I contemplated and came to the conclusion that I would mostly be fine with my body's constitution.
I jumped down into this 'bottomless pit' and hit the ground soon after. Due to Glass Cannon my body was still injured but I mitigated that with a potion. The area surrounding me wasn't pitch black anymore unlike what you see from the balcony above.
There was a way forward and I came into a room that was different to the other two, this time instead of the sword being propped up onto a giant mound it was merely laying thereon the ground. I walked towards it and when I was about 30 metres away from it a giant monster dropped down from the ceiling, as if it just appeared out of thin air.
It was a bipedal creature, it walked on two legs. It was massive and its body was muscular. It had the face of a bull and the horns of one, it was minotaur! I was absolutely fucked if I tried to fight it at this point in time. Minotaurs were late game enemies and late-early game boss monsters. Alright the door to this room is still open, I think I'll go escape the room and bait the minotaur out of it. Then I'll loop around him and grab the sword.
I enacted step one of the plan and ran out of the room as fast as I can, the minotaur was hot on my tail but I was far ahead of it. One weakness a minotaur has is its speed so if you take advantage of that you'd be fine.
Something unexpected happened though. The moment I left the room the door shut behind me. When I realised this my heart sank. I banged on the door and tried my hardest to open its handle, but nothing worked, it just wouldn't budge. Did I just lose my chance? No way right? And I was correct.
Then and there I saw a brilliant light coming from behind me, it was so bright that even though I was turned away from it, I still needed to close my eyes because it would have blinded me otherwise.
Once the light died down I turned and faced it, it was floating in the air as if it was an otherworldly object(which it was). For the reason that why it was there, Clarent had two names, one was the Sword of Peace and the other was the Coward's Blade. So by running away I had passed its trial.
I picked it up and an incredible power surged up from within my very soul. I felt as if I could take on the entire world. I went towards the door from earlier and realised that I could push it open, and I did just that.
The room was filled enemies now, mostly trash mobs but the minotaur from earlier was there too. They all turned their attention towards me, maybe it was because of the sword but I could feel a massive bloodlust from my enemies. But it didn't matter I didn't even need to do anything.
First, the passive skill of Clarent. Clarent has two modes, this one is Flare mode. Suddenly every enemy was dropping their weapons and being unable to move, it was as if they had lost the will to fight. The first skill of Clarent-Tranquil Sea. It would pacify every single enemy in the room that had bad intentions against me as long if I will it to do so.
All of the enemies were pacified and just stood in place like statues. All except for one. The minotaur from earlier was confused for a moment as to why its allies had stopped attacking but resolved itself to continue attacking me. Clarent then glowed with a pale blue hue. There was a limit to the enemies that it could pacify, if it was much stronger than me, it would not be affected like the minotaur here.
Without even realising it I shouted out,
'Clarent Eclipse mode!' The second mode of Clarent, Eclipse mode. It would activate whenever an enemy would be unaffected by the first skill of Clarent. In this mode Clarent would become a true sword and unleash it's true capabilities. The hilt of the blade closed in and became part of the blade itself, it glowed a brilliant and pure blue.
I stepped forward and with every bone in my body I yelled.
'Vindicta Von Deus!*1' The ultimate attack from Clarent filled the room with its brilliant blue light and its magnificent blue flames*2. It was pure destruction and chaos, the opposite of what the sword stood for, but why was it so beautiful that it had me dazed just viewing all of it. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I don't think that applies here. If anyone viewed this scene they would be moved by the sheer beauty of it.
When it was finished it seemed that I had turned everything in the room to mere ash and dust, they would return to the Earth which is where they came from. The door leading outside of room opened and I walked through it, it led me back to the mouth of the cave where this had started. Clarent had returned to its normal form and I was greeted by a nice cool breeze when I stepped out of the cave. Looking at the beautiful landscape this world had, the grassy and green plains, the trees swaying in the wind and the beautiful night sky littered with stars that lay above me, I thought to myself, There is still a long journey ahead. The memory of being devoured by those creatures was a long gone memory.
