'Crap why is a Chasm-Born here?'
Zalan quickly rolled over on his stomach to get the attention of Amanda. His life literally depended on it. Oblivious to the Chasm-Born closing in, she continued reading her hologram screen with one hand whilst stroking Zalan with the other.
'Come on woman we are about to die!'
'How do I get your attention?'
Zalan contemplated before turning back to look at the Chasm-Born. Upon noticing that it has started to advance through the fields, Zalan did what he thought was the best thing to do. He rolled around, grabbed Amanda's hand and bit the hand as hard as he could. The only problem was that he didn't have any teeth. So as a result he only managed to suck on Amanda's finger which earned him a questioning look.
"Zalan are you hungry?"
Amanda closed the holographic screen being displayed on her watch in an front and instantly turned to the 3 month old child.
Zalan from his laid down position did his best to point towards the Chasm-Born. However, Amanda only saw this as Zalan wanting a hug. And so she picked him up and face planted him into her chest.
"Aww Zalan, come to mommy."
'NO NO NO I don't want a hug! I want you go get us the hell out of here and call Alex!'
Zalan did the next best thing he thought he could do. Like all babies, he started crying. Amanda's face contorted as she was holding Zalan in her hands trying to comfort him with back pats. Contrary to Zalan's intentions, Amanda has now shifted her focus completely on Zalan's well being like what any mother would do.
'NOOOO I DON'T WANT TO DIE AGAIN'.
Zalan frantically ran scenarios through his head on the best course of action. Most of which required speaking. Unfortunately, he didn't unlock the ability to speak comprehensible words yet. They mostly came out as high pitch squeals. With a last ditch attempt, Zalan forced himself to stop crying, pushed his body off her chest and arched both of his stubby arms in the direction of the Chasm-Born. To the surprise of Amanda who was still shocked at how quickly babies can change emotions, she noticed Zalan's weird behaviour and decided to look at where her baby was reaching his arms towards.
By now the Chasm-Born was about 120 meters away. The Chasm-Borns were ferocious predators that looked like humans with human level intelligence and could be unawakened or have power tiers from 1-9. They were 2 meters tall on average and had grey skin with black horns coming out of their head indicating what tier their were. Tier 1s had one horn and Tier 9s had nine. But Chasm-Borns most distinct feature was their red eyes that resembled flames burning in their eye sockets. One pair was glued to Zalan right now.
As Amanda turned her head in the direction Zalan was indicating, there was a slight pause before a slight smile appeared on her face as she gazed at the corn field.
"Aww does little Zalan want to become a farmer as well?"
She said in a cheerful voice.
Zalan could only respond with a deadpan expression. Well whatever expression he makes renders as cute in Amanda's eyes anyways.
'What! How can you not see the Chasm-Born. Are you a Chasm-Born in disguise? Or maybe I am a Chasm-born as well!?'
As Zalan was panicking, Amanda's wrist watch suddenly sounded a siren as the Chasm-Born crossed the 100 meter mark. Now the shock came in as Zalan noticed the blood drain from Amanda's face. She frantically glanced around before charging into the house shutting the door behind her.
'Is she unable to see the Chasm-Borns?'
'That doesn't make sense though'
As Zalan was lost in thought, Amanda smacked giant blue button beside the door.
Immediately, all the windows shut, with the shutters closing and turning into blast shields being reinforced with Qualt. The whole house turned dark before the generators kicked in lighting up the place. Amanda reached over to pick up the phone on the side and call her husband.
[Hello? Amanda what's happening?]
"Alex the Chasm-born alarm rang. I took Zalan and we are hiding inside the house".
[Ok, I'm on my way. Stay Safe.]

Amanda placed the phone down and tightened her grip on Zalan.
"It's going to be ok. Mommy is here."
She kept on muttering whilst stroking Zalan in the back, as if the danger would go away he she showed enough affection towards Zalan.
'This feels nice'
Zalan almost forgot the danger being in the embrace of Amanda, but was once again reminded by their current situation when a loud 'bang' resounded as a grey fist penetrated the reinforced door. Amanda snapped her head towards door. Zalan could feel her trembling hands as she stood not daring to take her eyes off the fist that was slowly receding. He could just make out her muttering.
"Ttt…tier 3".
To an unawakened like her, a tier 3 being was like a god. With a wave of their hand, they could easily decimate her into dust. Now, one was at her door step without the intention of being gentle.
'You have got to be kidding me'
'Sigh, who knows, maybe Ill be reincarnated again into another unfortunate body and suffer the same fate. Oh gods please have mercy on this poor soul'
Zalan being the powerless being he was in this body, decided set a prayer before laying his head against Amanda to spend his final moments in her warm embrace. After all, there wasn't anything he could do in the moment. The duo stood in silence praying for Alex to return and fight off the Chasm-Born. Soon, there was another loud 'Bang' in the door. Zalan couldn't help but take a peek before his demise. But to his surprise, an icicle stuck out of the wall contrary to his expectation of the grey fist. He was even further confuse when he noticed the smile on Amanda's face as if there never was a Chasm-Born out to kill them.
"GET AWAY FROM MY HOUSE!"
A furious cry could be heard Alex arrived and charged straight at the Chasm-Born. Alex was an ice awakened. He arched his hand forward in a swiping motion creating a giant spike of ice from the air to launch at the Chasm-Born. The attack had enough power to destroy the house so Alex tried his best to lead battle away. The Chasm-Born sidestepped whilst narrowing avoiding the giant icicle and raised its own hands to shoot an onslaught of rock shards at Alex. Each one resembled bullets as they flew towards him instantly. Without the time to dodge, Alex could stare at the oncoming attack and conjure an ice shield whilst crouching. The collision of the rock bullets broke the ice shield and scraped his upper body. With a bit of blood dripping down his abdomen, Alex took a step back to steady himself and stared at red eyes of the Chasm-Born.
