Chapter 8 - Freedom.

Ryan loved reading now. Since he had come across the first book which sparked his interest in the library. He never failed to go for his night sessions in the library.

He loved the calmness and quietness at night. It made him understand things and assimilate much better than during the day. During the day, he did other things but didn't rebel against the elder that much.

He wanted the man to be caught by surprise at how much he had prepared. The man would never believe it. That was what he wanted. Keeping the old man in the dark gave him power and made him think that Ryan had backed down whereas he hadn't.

In Fact he was far from backing down. His people needed him now that ever. He couldn't give up until he achieved the goal. Sometimes he got tired but he would forge ahead when he remembered the promise he had made to his parents.

He remembered that night when he had gone to their grave with tears in his eyes. He needed strength to go on this journey against the elder and there was only one place he could draw from.

That place never failed him. In times of weariness, he went there to cry and he would come back with a surged confidence. He kept on going there.

It was dark already. Ryan stood up from his bed. His body still ached him but the pain had eased a bit. It wasn't like the former. He could lift things now. Moreso, training himself had taught him how to deal with pain.

Ryan walked to the chair by a side in his room and picked up his shirt. Ryan wore it and strode out of the room.

He walked faster in the direction of the library. Last night, he had stopped at a very interesting place but he had to go. It was almost morning and everyone was almost awake.

He was glad he would get to read it tonight. He opened the door and strode in. Ryan reached for the book on the shelf.

He went to the reading table and sat on it to read. His secret study sessions were grounds for him to understand what being an Alpha entailed. He knew zilch about it and that has been another reason as to why he couldn't head the pack as at that time.

The chiefs had strongly protested that it would make other packs think so little of them and could even put them at a disadvantage.

Ryan understood what they meant now. It wasn't easy to be an Alpha. The more he read about it, the more he understood the duties of an Alpha. He would have to think more about the people and be a good leader amongst many other things which he was still learning from.

Ryan flipped the pages of the book. He had folded the last page of the book the night before. He sighed when he got there. Then he started reading. The book was a gold mine of knowledge.

It was filled with a lot he needed to know before his next step - overthrowing the elder.

" Overthrowing an Alpha isn't so easy," a line said.

Ryan continued reading. He needed to know what was needed to overthrow him. He had known it wouldn't be easy, so the old man wasn't ready to leave the position after years of enforcing his decisions on them.

He felt he was now Lord so he didn't plan to leave. However he wasn't prepared for what Ryan had coming for him. He would make sure the old man bowed before him and apologize for what he had done to him and Adrienne. He would make sure he did that.

Ryan found out that in some packs, the status of the Alpha was not hereditary and that some Alphas took their positions by force. That was his aim. He wanted to take over from the man. He wasn't leading them well.

The people had long lived under his strong grip. They needed a fresh start. They needed someone who wouldn't impose his selfish interests on them without thinking about theirs too.

He tried contemplating on what to do. There was nothing he could think of. He paced the room trying to think of a fault. The chiefs apparently would take the elder's side when it came to this.

They wouldn't support him. After all they had called him a weakling, he needed the support of the people but even with that he had to still think of ways to do it without shedding a drop of blood.

He didn't want any innocents to die because of him. The reason he had revolted wouldn't be taken into consideration and the old man would be happy he made such a mistake.

He decided to take the book to his room to keep reading before making a decision. He had to be careful in making a decision as this would affect them all.

Ryan stood up and hid the book under his arm. He didn't want anyone to see it. How would he explain? The elder had ears and eyes all over. He made sure he could come out before he strode out of the library. There were reasons he was being extra careful with the library.

Ryan strode to his room. As he read the book further in his room, Ryan discovered that the rule could only be applied when a hereditary alpha status had been seized by someone else.

Ryan decided to take his alpha status by force from the elder. He would watch the old man very well to see his weakness and strengths before he used his plan.

That way, he would be sure to rope him in the plan well. No one would be able to rescue him. Not even his so-called chiefs who rallied around him for one thing or the order. He would get support from the people of Glengariff. They needed their freedom.
