Adrienne stirred on the bed, lost in thoughts.
"Good morning my lady." Her maid greeted her from a corner of the room where she was arranging some clothes.
"Morning, dear." She sat up on the bed as she yawned.
She looked outside, it was snowing. She had fallen asleep in the wee hours of the morning when the darkness was clearing.
She stood up and traipsed into the bathroom where her maid had drawn water for her to bathe. Adrienne stepped into the bath. It was warm. Exactly what she needed to battle this harsh winter.
Adrienne slid into the bath slowly. Then she washed her body.
Her maid prepared her gown for the day for her. It was a pink flay gown. She stepped out of the water and took the towel over her body.
Then she stepped out of the bathroom when someone knocked. She knitted her brows in confusion. Who could need her presence this morning?
It was still early. Her maid opened the door to receive the message.
"The Alpha requires my lady's presence after breakfast." The guard delivered the message and walked away.
The maid told her. She nodded though she was still confused as to why he would want to see her. They had never had any cause to meet one on one neither has he called for her
She wondered if it was related to Ryan. She sighed as her mind crossed Ryan again. She found herself thinking about him even though she had vowed that she would stop thinking about him.
But she couldn't,no matter how many times she tried. She found herself thinking about him. She wondered if he had changed or if he was still the same old jerk. She reached for her gown and wore it over her.
Her maid adjusted the clothes on her body and she checked herself in the mirror. She was good to go
"I'm off. I'll be back soon." She told her maid who looked confused.
"Off to where my lady? We haven't had breakfast." She reminded her
"Yes I do know. I want to see the Alpha before having mine. You can go eat yours." She said,
Since the guard had delivered the message, she didn't feel at ease. Her stomach roiled and for no reason she felt worried that there was something else to this.
She couldn't eat her breakfast without knowing. Apart from the fact that her curiosity ran deeper, she also knew that if she ate breakfast without going to see him first she might have indigestion issues.
Why did he suddenly demand her presence before him for the first time? There was something else to this. She knew it so well.
Adrienne stepped out of the room and closed the door after her. Their wing was different from the Alpha's wing. She wondered how he knew of her.
She walked in the direction of his wing and a guard announced her presence to the Alpha.
He agreed that she could come before him immediately.
"Welcome Adrienne." The Alpha said.
"Good morning my Lord." She knelt to bow before him.
The Alpha nodded.
"You may stand up. Thank you for coming as soon as you heard of it. The matter is of utmost urgency." He said when she took her eyes to meet him.
Adrienne frowned. His chiefs were by his side. What was urgent? Why did he want to see her?
"You may speak my Lord." She said after realizing that he was waiting for her so he could start.
"We have reached an agreement with Glengariff." He said.
Adrienne froze. The hairs on her body stood and shudders ran through her spine. Why did he mention Glengariff? What was the agreement he was talking about?
Was this why Ryan had come here? She knew there was something to his arrival in Blarney Castle but she didn't know the reason why.
She had thought it was something that would be sorted out between them but now that she just heard him. He had said an agreement.
"What agreement?" Her voice was barely a whisper. A reflection of what was happening inside her.
She was breaking apart. She hoped it would'nt be what she had thought. She wasn't ready to go back to Glengariff yet. What did they need her for? How had they known that she was here? Had Velvet Moon Pack betrayed her too?
Too many questions roved through her mind as she shivered. What if she was sold back? Why did this have to happen again? She bit her bottom lip why she stared at them hoping this was all a dream and that the Alpha was pulling a trick on her.
She hoped for her sake that she could wake up from this dream. She pinched herself to confirm that she wasn't dreaming. She wasn't. She was here in Blarney Castle, on her knees, awaiting the Alpha's final speech.
That would put the final nail in it.The alpha cleared his throat.
"After much deliberation, Adrienne, we hope you won't hold this against us but we really had no choice than to do this. No matter how much we tried thinking about it, you were the one we all came to a decision about." The Alpha said.
Adrienne swallowed as she waited. She clenched the hem of her gown in her tight fists and stared at him, willing him to please not speak at all or go mute. Her past was catching up with her again. She shivered as the winter breeze blew in.
The Alpha said that they had reached an agreement with her old pack and both were now allies to her surprise. Adrienne wasn't happy with this, but it was the way they played politics. What she couldn't grasp was how it concerned her.
The alpha then said that there will be a peace offering, and the pack has decided that she will be the peace offering. Her eyes widened.
She fainted.
