Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 Bow And Arrow

"Let me get dress. We're leaving for the village chief's resident immediately," Elder Bachun said as he went into his house.

"Take care of yourself, big brother!" Shung Li waved at Shung Yun as the three[3] meters tall gorilla stepped out of the back gate of the Byui village.

"There are other ways to increase your battle strength than Qi cultivation, my king," Ikunga said as his feet and his knuckles moved his body forward.

"What way is that?" Shung Yun asked as he strained his ears to cut off as much noise from the surrounding as possible.

"Essense comprehension," Ikunga said to Shung Yun.

"Records shows that Essense comprehension is only possible for those at the upper-stage of Qi birth realm. And I confirmed it a few months after my meridians opened up. I couldn't sense or feel anything," Shung Yun said, referring the second sentence to the dead Shung Yun.

"Although they're sometimes when nature won't bulge no matter how hard you hit at it, there are other times when nature take your consistency into account and grant you your request," Ikunga said as he continued walking forward.

"You're really something else, Ikunga," Shung Yun said as he heard Ikunga.

"The king is right, Ikunga. You're way different from what the beast race classifies as normal," Mangro said with his head poking out from Shung Yun's left sleeve.

Constantly moving forward, Ikunga arrived back to the camp with Shung Yun on his left shoulder.

"Move towards that area," Shung Yun pointed at an area with a few numbers of soldiers around, "let me go see how good I am with a bow and arrow."

Arriving at a wide field with archers shooting at their target meters away from them, he attracted quite a bit of attention due to the beast carrying him.

"Why are you here, captain Yun?" an upper-stage male youth with a purple-colored band on his forehead asked as he stood a few feet from Ikunga.

"I wish to learn how to use a bow," Shung Yun said while holding an arrow with head having traces of blood, "I've been shot at a few times in a short period of time. Maybe, mother nature wishes for me to learn how to shoot it."

"It doesn't belong to our unit. I would know if it was," the upper-stage male youth said.

"I'm not actually here to find out who shot me. It would be great if I did find out the persons who shot me though," mumbling the second part of his words, he continued, "I want to have a usable long-range weapon in my arsenal."

"Not satisfied with your dagger?" the upper-stage male youth asked.

Leaping down from Ikunga's left shoulder, Shung Yun said, "I haven't been able to learn how to use it. Maybe, shooting an arrow will be easier to learn than throwing a dagger."

"You can't be in my Shooting-Star unit and in your Ravage unit at the same time. How do you deal with that?" the upper-stage male youth asked.

"I wish to learn how to use a bow. Not to join your unit," Shung Yun said.

"If that's so, then you need to make payment in order to practice in our training ground and learn from us," the upper-stage male youth said.

"How much will I be paying?" Shung Yun asked.

"One[1] duan silver piece a day. I won't take anything less," the upper-stage male youth said.

"Here," Shung Yun took out a duan silver piece before throwing it towards the captain of Shooting-Star unit, "let's get started."

"Follow me," the upper-stage male youth said as he walked towards a shooting stand in the training field.

Arriving at the shooting stand, he picked up the wooden bow on the slab in front of the shooting stand before picking an arrow from the carved arrow storage on the right side of the shooting stand.

"Your strong hand should always hold the arrow, while your weak hand holds the bow," the upper-stage male youth said to Shung Yun as he placed the bottom of the arrow on the string of the bow, "control the amount of strength you use in pulling the string and then let your eyes be the signal for your release."

Twii!! Whoosh!!

"He got the center of the target," Shung Yun thought as he looked at the arrow dangling its bottom after thrusting into the center of the target.

"Here. Try it," the upper-stage male youth said as he passed the wooden bow to Shung Yun, "steady your muscles by breathing calmly. Don't let your hands shake no matter what happens in your surroundings."

"Alright," Shung Yun said as he picked up an arrow from the stash of arrows on the right side of the shooting stand.

Pinning the bottom of the arrow on the string of the bow, he raised the bow to the height of his face before tilting his head a little to the right.

"Keep your head straight and both your eyes open," the upper-stage male youth said to Shung Yun, "closing your left eye thinking it will make your view more accurate hinders your progress in archery."

Hearkening to the voice of his instructor, Shung Yun straightened his head and opened his left eye as he tried to position the arrow towards the center of the target by adjusting the position of the bow.

Twii!! Whoosh!!

"The second to the last circle. You're better than I thought," the upper-stage male youth said as he looked at the arrow stuck in the wooden target.

"The third circle sounds a lot better," Shung Yun said as he picked up another arrow from the stash by his right.

"We don't pamper weaklings here. We break them and forge them into strong archers," the upper-stage male youth said.

"Well, you're right. Only by destruction can creation be attained," Shung Yun said as he released his hold on the arrow, letting it fly towards his target.

Twii!! Whoosh!!

Tap!

"We should investigate the reason two[2] high level cultivators would want to get into the village as spies," commander Jian said to his fellow commanders on the round table.

"A captain of your Warhead Section killed them and left their bodies in Oak Forest to be feasted upon by beasts. That was a valuable source we would've started the investigation from," commander Tian said as he drank from the cup in his hand.

"It was a life and death battle. If it wasn't for the help of his contracted beast, he would've been the one to be killed," commander Jian said as he defended Shung Yun.

"The both of you are right. We should investigate about the spies that failed in infiltrating the village thanks to the young captain from the Warhead Section. Yet we have no lead to begin such an investigation," commander Nai said to his fellow commanders, "but this also brought to our notice that the Quing Village is up to something big. We should double the security of the village and render strict inspection on the traders and foreigners that comes and goes in the village."

"We should also send soldiers to scout the Oak Forest. That will give us a heads up when the Quing Village strikes," commander Zhu said.

"We should let Shung Yun tell his contracted beast to do that for us. That will save our soldiers from any casualty," commander Jian said.

"Why do we need to rely on a teenager and a savage beast to take care of the tasks of our experienced soldiers?" commander Tian said as he disagreed with commander Jian.

"Using Shung Yun and his contracted beast will let us avoid casualties among our soldiers," commander Jian said.

"Our soldiers knew of what is required of them when they chose to join the military. Casualties aren't enough to relieve them of their duties," commander Tian said, "I understand what you're trying to do, commander Jian. You're trying to let your Shung clan take all the glory if a war breaks loose between us and Quing Village."

"Your desire to avoid losing to me is clouding your judgement, commander Tian. Although I'm thinking of accumulating glory for my clan, I'm also thinking of lessening the casualties of our soldiers before the war between us and Quing Village begins," commander Jian said.

"Can the both of you stop acting like couples and focus on the issue we have at hand?" commander Ming said as she looked at commander Jian and commander Tian with a tired expression on her face.

"The both of you should put your vendetta on hold until the meeting is over," commander Nai said to commander Jian and commander Tian, "we'll do as commander Jian said. The Shung clan junior will see if he can convince his contracted beast to help us."

"I'll inform him as soon as we're done," commander Jian said.
