Chapter 5 - THE ILLUMINATED LAKE

WRITERS POV

It was almost nightfall when she got to the lake, she had cried her eyes out and also tried consoling herself. She sat on a rock and kept starring at the lake for a long time. she kept remembering the event at the tavern, she couldn't hold back her tears and cried even more. "How can I freely walk around town now? have I really brought shame to my father?" she had the thought of ending her life, but she knows she couldn't. At least not by drowning because she is quite a good swimmer. And then she had the urge to go for a swim. She dived in, the water was cold and calm. she felt at ease and decided to swim a little longer. she had a feeling to dive deep into the lake. she hesitated at first, but dive in. she opened her eyes and saw the beauty of the deep blue lake. the reflection of the setting sun pierced the surface of the water and Luna could see well under water. she kept swimming downward to the dark part of the lake. and she got to a spot where she decided to swim back to the surface before she ran out of oxygen.

Suddenly, she saw a glow of light. It got brighter and it seems to be moving around. She went upwards for air and went back in. She swam downward into the lake, towards the glow of light. The more she approached the glow of light the calmer she was. She was not afraid at all. "This does not look like glowing gems ... it looks like a..." she could not understand what it was and the glowing light moved again and took the form of a being. "This look like... a Man!" she was shocked when the spirit-like man looked at her direction.

It swam upwards towards her and out of fear, she started to swim back to the surface. But it was swift and fast that it caught up with her.

LUNA'S POV

I was dead scared when it looked at me, I have never seen anything of such in my life. Out of fear, I tried swimming as fast as I could but suddenly, it was in front of me, he was just a transparent illumination, a spirit I would say. He looked at me as If he was studying me... then he smiled... "He really is a man, but why does he glow like a bioluminescence plant? And come to think of it, he does not look like an ordinary man. "I hope I am not hallucinating" I asked myself. although he looks see-through, I could tell that his skin was like that of the night sky. i studied his features further. he had horns on his head and pointy ears..."As I studied his features as fast as I could and then it dawned on me! "Oh my! Am I really looking at an elf??? I thought they are extinct. I thought they died off centuries ago? "

These thoughts and questions kept coming that I forgot that I am almost out of breath. I started gasping and struggling to swim to the surface. He understood that I was almost out of breath then he conjured some magical symbols out of his fingertips. The symbols glowed dimly and scattered into tiny magical dust, surrounding my whole body. And suddenly, I could breathe under water. I knew this can only be the work of magic and elves were known to practice pure magic according to our history books. This elf kept watching my every reaction and smiled ever so brightly. He is nothing like the description I have seen in our history books, and this made me even more curious.

"Who are you really?" I mumbled out these words, "I thought your kind was extinct.? And the star symbol on your chest, why is it glowing?" I asked him. he does have an engraved star symbol on his chest, it was big, and it glowed brightly. He did not reply but made a gesture with his hands. I did not understand it and he did it again. He nodded his head to the side, a gesture for me to follow him. And he swam down towards a rocky surface at the bottom of the lake. He made another gesture which I still did not understand. Then he conjured words out of his fingertips in the water plain which was written; "meet me here tomorrow at dawn"

I nodded in affirmation to what he said. He smiled back at me and vanished. This took me few minutes to process what just happened. The once glowing lake became pitch black. His luminous body lit the lake but now, it's all dark and I am all alone. But the good thing is that I could still breathe under water. I swam back to the surface and it was already nightfall. "My brother and parents might be worried sick right now", I thought to myself. I put on my shoes and hurried out of the lakeside. I got out and saw a few torches afar off,
