One day, a young man with his head wrapped and multiple other injuries slowly opens his eyes in a hospital bed. He looks over and sees a man with grey hair and a woman beside him. He is startled by them for a moment, not saying a single word and backing away as far as they can.
"Hey pal. How are ya feeling?" The man asks.
The injured man doesn't answer for a moment, confused about the situation.
"Do you-know who we are?" The man asks.
The hospitalized man shakes his head no. The man sighs at his answer.
"My name, is Harvey Burke. This is Felicia Sawyer. We work with you. You uh- you had an accident- a head injury. The doctor says there was...memory loss. Your name is Jason Locke."
Jason takes everything in.
"Do I- do I have any family? I- can't remember." Jason asks.
Harvey looks back at Felicia and sighs before answering the question.
"No. You never knew your father- your mother passed away a few years ago. No wife... No kids...No siblings. You were- focused on your work."
Jason looks up at the ceiling and sighs.
"So how did I end up like this anyway?" He asks.
Havery doesn't answer for a moment.
"You were shot. In the head."
When Jason hears this, he's confused. Harvey nods at Felicia then she approaches Jason.
"Jason... You're a mercenary. We're hired to kill... bad people. The decision is yours, but if you stick with us... you could jog your memories. Not to mention continuing the good work you were doing before your accident. What do you say?"
Jason thinks for a moment, not having a lot of options at the moment. He soon agrees to it and when he fully recovers, he continues his work as a mercenary.
One year later, Jason works out in his apartment that was given to him by Harvey. He does push ups, sit ups, pull ups, and practices strikes on a heavy bag. When he finishes, he hears a knock on the door. Jason opens the door to see Felicia standing there.
"Hey, Felicia. New top?"
Felicia smirks.
"It was. Five years ago."
"Well it still looks good on you. Come in."
She walks inside and hands him a envelope.
"Who's the target?" Jason asks, grabbing the envelope.
"Malcolm Stewart. Human trafficking, money laundering, murder, basically everything in the book. Unfortunately for him, he's pissed off the wrong people." Felicia answers.
"They usually do. Where's his located?"
"A mansion outside the city. Secluded, only a few guards."
Jason looks at the picture of Malcolm and his mansion.
"Jesus if a guy's living in a place like that, he deserves to a bullet."
Felicia smirks.
"Get dressed. We head out in five."
That night, Jason prepares while sitting in the back of a black van with Felicia and Harvey.
"How's your head today?" Harvey asks.
"Oh you know. It only hurts when I think." Jason says.
"You should stop thinking. I did years ago." the driver, and fellow mercenary named Mark, says.
They soon arrive near the mansion.
"We're here." Felicia says.
Jason nods and leaves the van. He walks straight to the front door that's guarded by a security guard. The guard raises his hand towards him, trying to stop him, but Jason grabs him by the wrist and hits him in the throat. He then breaks his wrist, dropping him to his knees, and kicks him in the face, knocking him out cold.
As he walks into the mansion and immediately shoots four other guards with a silencer pistol. He runs upstairs and into another security guard but quickly hits him across the face then shoots him square in the head. Jason then kicks open a door to a room where Malcolm is. When he sees Jason with the gun aimed at his head, he quickly cowers in fear.
"Woah, woah, Who sent you?"
"Doesn't matter. Just know there's nothing you can say to change what's about to happen."
"Wait, hold on kid. I-I-I got money. You see this place? I'm sure we can work something out, just give me a number."
"Two."
Jason quickly shoots the man two times, one in the chest and one in the head. As he tucks his gun away and turns to leave, he looks over and sees a picture of the man with his son that shakes something loose in his mind. He sees a memory of a little girl laughing while he throws her up in the air. He soon snaps out of it and leaves, but is visibly shaken by this newly found memory.
He soon re-enters the van.
"Drive." He says with a serious look on his face.
As the van starts to move, everyone notices the change in Jason.
"Everything alright, Pal?" Harvey asks.
Jason doesn't answer for a moment, unable to stop thinking about the little girl.
"I'm fine. Just tired." He replies.
Everyone in the van looks at one another with concern as Jason stares off in the distance.
Later at their base of operations, Harvey hands Jason his payment for the job.
"Here you go. You've earned it, as usual." Harvey says.
As Jason takes the money, he can't help but think about the memory that he saw back in the mansion.
"Hey Harv. Are you sure- I didn't have anyone? Before the accident, I mean."
Harvey looks at Jason for a moment.
"No, sorry. From what I knew, it was just you."
Jason doesn't answer for a moment.
"Right, just me. Sorry, I was just wondering. It's just that it's been a year and- I haven't remembered anything." Jason says.
Harvey sighs.
"I know it's frustrating. But the doctor did say you might not ever get your memories back."
"Right, yeah I know. I'm ok with not remembering, I was just curious that's all. I'll see you guys tomorrow."
As Jason leaves, Felicia and Mark approach Harvey.
"Somethings up." Harvey says.
"He's just curious about his past. It'll fade." Felicia replies.
"Or maybe he's starting to remember and knows that we've been lying to him." Mark adds.
"He doesn't have the whole picture yet. If he did, we'd already be dead." Harvey says.
"Then let's finish the job before he figures it out." Mark suggests.
"No. I'll talk to him, convince him to drop it. There's no need to get rid of our best merc." Felicia says.
Harvey thinks for a moment.
"Alright. But we can't risk our own safety. If he shows any sign of being a threat, we put him down. Permanently." Harvey says.
Felicia nods, then leaves to follow Jason.
