Chapter 2 - THE TRUTH REVEALED

Jason sits at a bar alone, drinking ginger ale. As he sits there he gets flashes of himself laughing with Felicia, Harvey, Mark, and another man that he doesn't recognize. He soon snaps out of it when Felicia sits next to him.

"I don't get why you come here if you don't drink alcohol." Felicia says.

Jason smirks.

"I don't know, I've just- always liked this place. I can't explain it."

Felicia smiles.

"We used to come here all the time. You know, before your- injury." She tells him.

Jason nods, not saying anything and continues to drink.

"So you gonna tell me what's going on with you?" Felicia asks.

Jason sighs, putting down his glass.

"When I was inside Malcolm's house. I think- I remembered something."

Felicia is surprised by this.

"Really? What was it?"

Jason doesn't answer for a moment.

"I saw a little girl. We were- laughing together. I don't know if it's real or not. Maybe it's just my imagination but- I just can't shake it." Jason says.

Felicia stays silent for a moment.

"Maybe it's your mind telling you what you want to hear. You know, that you were this family man instead of a mercenary." Felicia suggests.

Jason thinks to himself for a moment. Felicia then stands up and puts her hand on his shoulder.

"Get some sleep, Locke." She says as she leaves the bar, leaving Jason alone with his thoughts.

Later that night, Jason dreams of himself being in bed, laughing and smiling with a beautiful woman.

"I love you, Jason." The woman says.

Jason quickly wakes up in a cold sweat, realizing that these are definitely memories. He then spends the rest of the night, pacing around, thinking about what he saw. He soon hears a knock at the door. Jason opens it and sees Felicia.

"We got another job. You alright?" Felicia asks.

Jason doesn't answer for a moment, being cautious of Felicia and the others.

"Yeah... yeah I'm fine. What we got?"

Felicia looks at him for a moment, worrying about Jason.

"Markus West, a fellow merc. He's been killing some powerful people. Now a few powerful people want him dead."

Felicia hands him the file on West. When Jason sees his picture, he's shocked when he realizes that Markus is the man he saw in a memory at the bar. Jason does his best to hide his surprise, but Felicia slightly notices.

"When do we move?" Jason asks.

"Three hours." Felicia replies.

"I'll be there in one." Jason replies.

Felicia smirks.

"Of course you will." She says.

As Felicia leaves, Jason is left to think to himself about everything that is going through his mind.

Later on, in a giant party, Jason walks through the front door, unnoticed, while Felicia, Mark, and three other Mercenaries outside listening in through his ear piece. He soon sees Markus West around other men, and continues to walk.

"I got eyes on the target, but he's not alone." Jason says.

"We figured. There should be a door on your right, leading to the lower level of the building. There's a surprise waiting for you."

Jason takes the door, walks down the stairs, and sees a suitcase. He looks up and sees people's feet above him, then opens the suit case to reveal a gun with a special camera that can see through the floor. Jason whistles at the sight of the gun in approval.

"It must be my birthday." Jason says.

He aims the gun while looking through the camera, getting a clear shot at Markus West.

"Target acquired." Jason says.

As he is seconds away from taking the shot, a kid comes near them, asking for a dollar. Jason hesitates, being reminded of the little in the flashback that he saw.

"What the hells going on? Take the shot." Mark says

Jason doesn't answer for a moment.

"Collateral damage. There's a kid near the target." Jason says.

"So what? We'll deal with it later." Mark says

Felicia elbows Mark in the arm.

"We're not here to kill bystanders." Felicia says.

"We have a very small window to take out a guy that could become very bad news. Jason, go loud." Mark says.

Jason hands shake for a moment, before putting down the gun.

"Gun jammed." Jason says.

As he leaves the room, Mark cuts off communication with Jason for a moment to talk privately with Felicia.

"What the hell are you doing? You know what Markus could tell him, we needed him to take him out with little interaction as possible." Mark says.

"Not if it means innocent people die." Felicia replies.

Mark scowls, leaving the truck.

Meanwhile, Jason pulls a fire alarm and turns off the lights. Markus notices this and realizes what's about to happen.

"Oh shit. We gotta go." Markus says.

As Markus and his group walk towards the exit, Jason follows them, picking up a small knife nearby. He then stabs one of the men in the neck without the others noticing. He starts take out more of the men, and tries to stab Markus. As he swings the knife, Markus blocks and pulls out his gun. Jason moves the gun out of the way, and tackles him through a window.

As Jason grabs the gun on the ground, Markus runs away.

"Jason what's going on?" Felicia asks.

"Hold that thought." Jason says, running after the target.

When he turns down an alley, he gets tackled into the wall and gets the gun knocked out of his hand. Jason elbows Markus in the face, then kicks him in the stomach. Jason tries to throw a punch, but gets blocked and punched in the gut and then in the jaw. Jason dodges another punch thrown and slams him face first into the wall, knees him in the gut and then flips him to the ground.

As Markus is on the ground, Jason quickly picks up the gun and aims it at his Target. Markus looks up from the ground, ge finally gets a good look at Jason's face, causing him to be shocked.

"Jason?"

Jason is stunned by the fact that his memories might be accurate.

"How do you know me?" Jason asks.

"How do I know yo- Are you kidding me?! We were partners. I owe my life to you. Jesus, I thought you were dead, I saw them shoot you in your-"

Markus soon realizes what this means.

"You don't remember anything... You got shot in the head and don't remember anything. That's why you're still working with them, you don't remember what they are." Markus says.

Jason is confused.

"What are you talking about?"

Markus slowly stands to his feet. Jason keeps the gun on him, but is still shaken by all of this.

"Tell me the truth. Do I have a family?" Jason asks.

"Yes. A wife and a five year old daughter. You wanted to leave this life behind for them, move to Hawaii. Harvey didn't like that, so he tried to have you killed. I did my best to help you, but- Let's just say I've had a lot of regrets since that night."

Jason is shocked to learn that everything he's known is a lie.

"Where are they now?" Jason asks.

"I don't know. I thought it'd be safer if I lost contact with them entirely. My guess, they're still in-"

At that moment, Markus gets shot in the neck. As he falls to the ground Jason looks over and sees Mark holding a smoking gun. Jason quickly runs over to Markus, trying to stop the bleeding.

"Hey, Hey, Hey, stay with me. Come on, we aren't done yet."

As Markus gasps for air, he grabs Jason by the shirt and pulls him in close.

"Huston... Texas... twelfth street."

Soon Markus dies while Jason is left feeling unsure as to what he should do now that the truth is out.
