The whole house boomed with screams as the little blonde girl ran out to the backyard. Tears in her amber colored eyes as she hid behind the tree. Praying and hoping for the fight to get over. Her eyes were closed shut as she sat down near the tree. She kept repeating 'please stop' and then paused.
Call my name when you're in trouble.
"Lucifer." She whispered softly to herself.
"Your step mother's giving you problems again?" She heard a male voice say and she looked up at the figure sitting beside her.
Her eyes widened and then contracted as she looked at him. A smile made its way on her lips as she said, "Lucifer!"
He smiled at her and ruffled his hand through her hair. "You're happy to see me?" He asked and she nodded her head up and down in slow motion.
Lucifer smiled at her and looked up at the sky. She followed his eyes and looked up at the sky with him.
"What are we looking at?" She asked with her honey like eyes gleaming with innocence.
"We're complaining to Him." He said and she looked at him in confusion.
"Why?" She asked.
"Forget it. Now tell me why did you call me?"
"I didn't feel safe so I remembered you." She said, pouting her face looking up at the sky. "Can you talk to the new mom and ask her to be nice?" She asked.
"I can't do that because I'm not actually here." He said and she looked at him even more confused.
"Then where are you?" She asked.
He poked her forehead. "Here."
"So you're my imaginary friend like Emily has?"
"Of sorts." He replied.
She sniffed and looked down at her hands. "So if you're not real then you can't help, right?"
"Of course I can. But you won't remember what happened here." He said leaning against the tree.
"Trust me I will. My teacher says I have a very good memory."
"Of course you do." He laughed. "Now close your eyes."
She did as told and then heard the voice, "Open them."
Fiona rose from deep slumber to find a teenager sitting beside her bed on a chair. His lips were stitched together with more random stitches on his face. His skin was pale, completely lifeless, the look in his eyes was blank and he was dressed in a black sweater with black short shorts.
Fiona felt a headache knocking at her brain as she held her head. The teenager held his clenched hand towards her and she looked at him in confusion. Then she reached out and fist bumped him. The boy held her hand by the wrist and opened it, putting a tablet in her hand, he let go of her hand.
That's when she realized he was giving her medicine and not asking for a fist bump. She felt a little embarrassed as she accepted the glass of water from him and gulped the medicine down her throat.
"Who are you?" She asked and he stared at her blankly as if he was looking through her. "Oh… You can't speak." She says in a low voice, as she leaned a bit closer to him looking at the stitches on his lips. "Who did that to you?" She asked.
"He's cursed." She turned her attention to the voice and saw Lucifer standing in the doorway, dressed in a simple black t-shirt with gray shorts. "That'll be all, Xulam. You can leave now." Xulam stood up and bowed his head softly, turning to Fiona. He picked up a bottle of pills, put it in her hand while holding the back of her hand with his other hand.
Oddly enough, Fiona understood him telling her that she needs to take two pills a day for five days just by touching his hand. She felt like he connected his mind to hers for a moment. Then he let go of her hand and stepped back, bowing to Lucifer, he disappeared in thin air.
"Who was he?" Fiona asked.
"The only human who was turned into a demon." Lucifer said, taking a seat next to her bed. "How are you feeling, angel?"
"Don't call me that." She said and Lucifer narrowed his eyes in confusion as he reached out and clumsily held her chin, making her look at him, he stared into her honey like orbs and let out a little chuckle.
"Azrael.. That bastard." He growled out letting go of her face. "This is going to be so hard now." He sighed as he looked up to her. "What did he do to you?" He asked.
"Nothing. He-."
"What?"
She shook her head in a 'no'. "I have these things in my head. I understand those things but I can't remember them. It's weird.. I know them but I don't. "
"He triggered a mind block. I can't use my temptation on you anymore, it was the one thing keeping you from remembering the most brutal memories. They're coming back. You'll feel like you're in a state of disbelief. It'll come to you at times as slow waves but at times it will all come to you suddenly and they will be staggered. You may remember one thing from one time and then another thing from another time. It can get painful too."
"You've been blocking my memories?" She asked.
"That's the only thing you picked?" He replied.
"Why?"
"Because I needed you alive." He said as he sat beside her on the bed. "The things you have seen, angel-."
A sharp pain cut through her brain as she held her head and cried in pain. A reel of memories played in front of her eyes as the pain continued to cut through her mind.
"Why did they kill her?" Fiona said in a squeaky little cry.
"They were here to kill you." Fiona looked up at the huge figure standing in front of her with tears in her eyes, she looked into his beaming red eyes.
"Why is she crying? Wasn't her mother a bitch for not believing her?" The female voice said as Fiona's eyes moved to the female figure beside the man. Her blue eyes gleamed as they reminded Fiona of a frozen lake.
"Xanton. Shut up and step away." Lucifer said and Xanton rolled her eyes before leaving.
Lucifer sat down in front of her and gave her a small smile. "She died saving you. She was a good mother and I want you to remember that." He said and Fiona nodded her head.
"What if they come back?" She asked.
"They won't and if something bad does happen again I'll come back to protect you." He said and she nodded with tears still on the edge of her eyes.
"But why did he want to kill me?" She asked.
"Because you're special and your existence scares them." He replied.
"How am I special?"
"You're special because you're my little angel." He held her by her shoulders and looked right into her honey like eyes.
"Now..Fiona, you will forget what exactly happened here. You're going to remember slipping and drowning in that lake and your mother jumped in, she was able to save you but couldn't get herself out. Okay?"
She fell on the ground unconscious.
Her eyes opened as she gasped for air. She looked around and realized she was in Lucifer's villa. Her eyes met Lucifer's and he said, "Your memories are coming back to you, aren't they?"
"You always come when something bad is happening." Fiona revised the words she said to Azrael. "What is it this time?"
"I can't answer that, angel?"
"I just told you to not call me that." She said and Lucifer chuckled lightly.
"Right." He smiled looking away from her. There was silence for some time in the room.
Fiona brought her knees to her body and hugged her legs as the sheet rustled on the bed. She felt calm and relieved being in a warm bed after a long time. The cold breezes of the city weren't really for her.
She sighed and closed her eyes. Then she abruptly opened her eyes looking at Lucifer she said,
"God's going to kill me."
