Fiona sighed looking out of the window as buildings passed by her. She turned and looked at Lucifer who was leaning against the seat with his eyes closed.
"Celestials want me dead." She said and he nodded. "So why are we dressed in showy clothes and going to a party?"
He kept his eyes closed and answered, "Well, I am a devil who is inhabiting a human body. The human needs to show up to places he's expected at." He replied.
"Why does the human needs to show up with me?" She asked.
"Because the last time I left for New york, you jumped off the balcony and almost drowned in the ocean. The distance we covered with a helicopter just now I covered in seconds to reach there in time to save you."
"I don't have the energy to do that again so I can't leave you there, it's safer for you to be here with me. Now if that has answered you question leave me be because I still haven't recovered my energy." He said and she rolled her eyes as she looked out the window.
She kept her eyes outside and raised her eyebrow at a billboard outside. Then she turned to him.
"You're in Malik Yılmaz's body?" She asked abruptly making him open his eyes. "I thought I knew that face I couldn't put a finger on it. You're inhabiting a billionaire's body?"
"Who do you think made him a billionaire?" He narrowed his eyes at her.
"But Xanton called him Yaseen." She inquired.
"Yaseen is his birth name, Malik Yılmaz is an impersonation to survive in the world. He can't live by the same name for centuries."
"Centuries? So he's like a demon?" She asked.
"He's a human under contract with me. I use his body to walk on earth and he gets all of his earthly desires. Immortality is-" He paused as a sharp pain ran through his head. "You just couldn't shut up for a second, could you?" He gritted his teeth.
He winced in pain and covered his eyes. Fiona tried to touch him but he seemed aggravated and she felt a bit scared to anger the devil.
Suddenly the tension from his body released as he removed his hand from his eyes and looked at his hands. The color of red in his eyes had dissolved into pitch black as he examined his hands. A chuckle left his mouth as he looked up at Fiona.
"You really tire him out." He said as he held his hand towards her. "Hi, I'm Yaseen. You can call me Malik."
_
The hustle bustle of steps, clicks of camera and chatting of people vibrated their ear drums as the driver opened the door for them. Yaseen got out of the car and held his hand for Fiona. She looked at him and then at the reporters outside waiting for them. She accepted his hand and he helped her out. She was going to straighten her dress but Yaseen carefully did that for her, letting its tail fall on the ground nicely.
The reporters clicked pictures of them as little 'aws' were also heard. He held his arm to her and she wrapped hers around his.
"Just stay calm, smile, wave and if they ask you any questions just pretend you see through them." Yaseen slightly whispered to her as she nodded.
Following Yaseen's lead they made their way past the swarm of reporters. Fiona did just as Yaseen had told her. She smiled, waved and even showed off her dress a little. It was an exhilarating experience for her as she walked towards the main entrance with her arm clinging to Yaseen's arm. The guards greeted him and Yassen humbly shaked their hands and even hugged them, again the cameras clicked at him.
As they entered through the gate into the huge event complex, he scoffed a little.
"It's so easy to please them." He mumbled to himself holding Fiona's hand and leaning in closer to her. "You took acting for two semesters in high school, right?" He asked quietly.
"How do you know that?" She asked and he smiled showing off his perfect set of teeth.
"I live in Lucifer's head, and he knows everything about you." He replied but their conversation was cut off as someone came by to greet them.
"Malik Yılmaz, it's an honour to have you here." The man said.
"Oh, I'm more than happy to be here after all this is for a good cause." He said and the other person smiled and nodded.
"And who this might be?" The man asked, slightly tilting his head towards Fiona.
"Derek, this is my girlfriend, Fiona Jenkins." He said and although Fiona felt a little surprised at his white lie she still smiled and nodded at the man. "And darling, this is Derek Handel, you must remember him from the countless times I've mentioned him."
Fiona smiled at him. "Oh, so you're Derek, he praises you so much all the time. I'm so glad to finally meet you." Fiona said as Derek blushed a little and smiled in response.
"Enjoy yourselves, we have pule cheese as an appetiser. I know how much you love that thing." Derek said and Yaseen gratefully nodded. "If you'll excuse me, I have other guests to greet." Saying that he walked away from them.
"No wonder you tool acting for two semesters. You're so bad at it."
Fiona rolled her eyes and ignored his remarks. "I have to play your girlfriend?" She asked.
"Well, I have a reputation of 'not-a-playboy' to hold and I know Lucifer is going to take you everywhere with him after that stupid stunt you pulled." He said, taking two champagne filled glasses from the waiter and held out one for Fiona. "Why did you do that, anyways? I thought water was like your… trauma. You know what happened to your mother." He said and Fiona froze for a moment.
She felt anxiety built in her stomach as nausea clenched her chest. She didn't know what happened to her at that moment. Azrael pulled her out of Lucifer's spell which he calls temptation, and the moment the influence ended she realized who she was dealing with, the only escape she saw then was the balcony. She didn't even realize she was jumping in water. Now that Yaseen had pointed that out for her she started to feel the suffocation and the dizziness creeping its way into her.
Yaseen clicked his fingers in front of her pulling her out of her trance. She looked at him almost scared and he smiled.
"It's okay, sweetheart ." He said holding the glass near her face. "Drink down the anxiety." He winked at her.
She looked at him and then at the glass. If she wasn't mistaken, she saw a look of 'trust me' in his eyes. She wasn't sure if she should trust him or not, because even though she had known Lucifer for all these years she had never met Yaseen.
She finally gave up and took a leap of faith, taking the glass from him she sipped on the liquid as it burned her throat passing down. She cringed up her face a little but gulped the liquid down.
"You'll get used to it." Yaseen said nonchalantly, sipping from his glass. "Go on, sweetheart." He gestured at her glass and she looked down as she saw the bubbles floating up in the glass, she sighed and chugged the whole glass down in one breath. She shuddered all over as her eyes closed on their own, she composed herself as she opened her eyes and Yaseen let out a charming booming laugh.
He gestured to a waiter with a tray in his hand, the waiter came by and Yaseen took the glass from Fiona, put it on the tray and took another one from it.
"Here." He said handing it to her. He clanged his glass with hers and sipped. She smiled and sipped a little.
"Gosh, Lucifer's been back only half a day but I feel like I've been away from my body for centuries. I missed being human rather than a voice in Lucifer's head."
"Malik!" He almost jumped at the sudden shout from behind him. He turned to seee a red headed woman with emerald eyes, a frown was displayed on her forehead as anger burnt in her eyes. She slightly hit him on the arm. "Where the hell is your phone? I've been calling you!" She asked without acknowledging Fiona's presence.
"I went swimming, lost it." He shrugged lightly. "But I did buy a new one. I'll need you to get me the lost number back." He says flashing the phone in front of her.
"Swimming? In winter?" She said in disbelief. "Wow, Malik, if you want to ignore my calls at least come up with a better excuse." Saying that her emerald eyes moved to Fiona who was standing silently there listening to them.
"Is he harassing you? If he is, then tell me I'll call the cops right away." She said, wuth genuine concern.
"Jeez, tiger, calm down." He laughed. "Fiona, this is my 'oh-so' enthusiastic secretary; Faith." He said and Fiona smiled at her.
"It's nice to meet you." Fiona said and Faith looked at her in confusion and turned to Yaseen.
"She doesn't look like a hooker. Who is she?" She asked him.
"I apologise for her." He said to Fiona and then turned to Faith. "This is my girlfriend. Fiona Jenkins."
Her emeralds moved in between them. For a moment her expression was blank then she let out a laugh. "Malik Yılmaz? Girlfriend? Is this a joke?" She asked.
Yaseen smiled at her. "Faith, you're being very rude now. I suggest you shut your mouth now." He said and Faith realized that he was serious.
She quickly apologised and then smiled at Fiona. "I've known him for six years and he's just-" Her eyes moved to Yaseen who was glaring at her and then she smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry. I'm Faith Marshall, it's nice to meet you too." The. She turned to Yaseen. "I'll have that number back for you till midnight."
"Good and do me a favour, Faith. Arrange an after party at my penthouse." He said it quietly and she looked a little surprised.
"You want to arrange an 'after party' in a two hours?" She asked and he smiled.
"I thought Faith Marshall could get anything done." He said mockingly and she narrowed her eyes on him.
"Don't question my abilities, Mr. Yılmaz. I'm just a little worried about your girlfriend."
"She's my girlfriend, do you actually think you should be worried?"
"Of course, I should be worried for any woman in your company and please make sure to take offense."
He let out a little chuckle. "Do your job, Marshall and be a good secretary, that's why I pay you." He said and she held back the urge to scoff and simply nodded before walking past them, leaving the venue.
"Is she a demon?" Fiona asked.
"No, she's very human."
"You have a thing for her. Don't you?" Fiona asked.
He smiled, "Her existence is to torture me." His voice was little low.
He held his hand towards her. "Come on, we still have many people to meet who are waiting to see my blessed jawline."
"How is her existence torture to you?" She asked.
A sad smile made its way at the corner of his lips as his eyes moved to her direction and he said,
"The sole purpose she exists is for me to suffer an unrequited love, over and over as long as I live."
