Elinor’s POV
Shivers ran down my spine, not just at the words he had said but the way he had said them, and I had to force myself to swallow past the fear it had all caused in me. I had truly thought I was getting over that phase.
But what could I do when he said things like that and them in that manner?
But I forced myself, to speak up and when I did, my voice didn't sound like mine.
“And what exactly do you… do you mean by until they had to?”
He looked away from me and stared out into the water, and for a long time, he didn’t say anything…. Eventually, he shrugged, but he didn’t look as calm and as relaxed as he had since the beginning of our little adventure.
He looked dangerous, almost troubled, and I felt truly sorry that we had steered into this part of the conversation. It felt absolutely like my fault, that he could be reliving a moment or moments he hadn’t given too much thought to and all because of me.
