As I'm walking down the corridor John stood waiting for me, wrapped in bandages.
He steps out to keep me from walking any further, but I walk past him.
"Amon Britannia, I want to talk to you."
I stop and start to listen to him.
"Or perhaps I should call you James Brown."
"Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time."
I turn around to face John.
"Make it quick, I have to get to the hospital."
"So it really is you. James, very soon there will be a war and Britannia will lose. If you stay with Arthur Britannia you'll die, you'll wind up fighting on the wrong side. You're a victim, James, you don't need to die."
"Wrong side? There's no such thing as a wrong side, only a side that's different from yours."
We stand there staring at each other for a few moments in the dark, shaded corridor.
"You're beginning walking down the path of evil, James."
He extends his hand towards me.
"It's not too late to turn back and walk down the path of justice."
"Justice? Evil? Why the hell should I care about things as worthless as that? Justice what's is written by the people in power to create the outcome that benefits them the most. Evil is what stands between them and that outcome. I stand away from all that, the world wasn't there for me, John. Only now that I'm here am I finally starting to live a real life, why the hell should I risk that for the sake of your worthless morals."
I turn around and begin to walk away.
"Do you really want to walk down the path of evil!?"
Without stopping or looking back I responded to him.
"To hell with good and evil, I reject them both."
I walk off down the corridor and towards the hospital.
(POV Change)
"so did you get through to James?"
I shook my head at Ben's question.
"No. He's changed. He's not the same seventeen year old kid that used to get beaten down by everybody in the world. Besides the two of us and the girls of course."
"Do you think he'll fight us when it comes down to it?"
I nod my head.
"Probably. And from the looks of things, everything is dependant on what he does, if he fights us, we'll all die."
Anne finally decided to speak up.
"James was always completely powerless, and the entire world was against him. Now he's got a bit of power, we can't suddenly expect him to drop everything he has in this world and come to help us just because we were in the same class."
"Anne, this is about doing what's right, James of all people should want to help bring people peace and justice. Arthur Britannia's crimes can't stay hidden."
"Ben, he doesn't care about what's right."
If James won't fight for us, it's all over. We have no hope of beating him.
The door opens and The Earl walks in.
"Were you able to get Amon on our side?"
I shake my head slowly.
The Earl sighs.
"It is no matter, so long as he doesn't fight against us. Now, do you think we could convince Leon to fight for us?"
"It's possible. I'll have to try."
The Earl nods his head, try tomorrow after the finals. Right now he's in the hospital visiting a friend."
I nod my head at the Earl.
"It will be done."
(POV Change)
I may have to fight John and Ben one day. I don't know if I'd call them friends, all they ever did was follow me around when they could and keep people away from me, but I still don't want to kill them.
These were the thoughts plaguing my mind as I headed to the hospital.
Maya's room's just up ahead.
Noah's pacing up and down outside her door.
Did something happen?
He notices me as I approach the door.
"Is it done? Has Edgar Anglia been...disposed of?"
"He's alive, though he won't be living much of a life after this."
"What did you do."
"I simply showed him what real power looks like. He'll never be a sane man again. I wouldn't be surprised if he kills himself."
"I hope he fucking does."
I nod at his words.
He puts his hand on my shoulder.
"Thank you, Amon. I'm glad Maya's got someone like you to take care of her."
He opens the door and motions me inside, following in behind me.
Inside I find Maria, Leon, and Olivia along with Alice and my parents.
I sit down next to her and take her hand.
"Did you kill him?"
"There are fates worse than death. Edgar Anglia will be forced to live out the rest of his life in a mental institution, or until his family kill him."
"Brother, we were watching that fight, what exactly did you do to him."
"I tore apart his mind."
My father puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Amon, you did the right thing. I'm proud of the way you turned out."
I feel a pang in my chest. I don't know what this feeling is, it's like what I feel for Maya, only different.
Maria grabs Leon by the arm and starts dragging him to the door.
"We should all leave these two alone for now. I know they don't want us to be here right now."
She nods her head at Maya in understanding as everyone left the room.
Maya grabs me and pulls me down to the pillow before unbuttoning my shirt.
"So, what's on bothering you?"
"How did you know something was bothering me?"
"You might be impossible for other people to read but to me you're an open book. Afterall, you are my world."
She finished unbuttoning my shirt and began fumbling with hers.
"I saw an old... acquaintance on my way here. He was going on about justice and Britannia. I can't remember everything he said I wasn't really paying much attention, but I got the gist of it, very soon a war will break out and Britannia's the 'wrong side'."
We're laying naked in bed at this point.
"I wouldn't worry about it. Britannia's safe and it always will be. It's a young nation and yet it's already extremely powerful and making large advancements in weaponry. It's practically invincible. It's like the second coming of Rome, and Rome wasn't built in a day."
"No, but it burned in one."
I've had enough of talking.
I pull Maya close and begin the night.
