Chapter 49 - Academy attack

"So you're finally awake."

They all fell asleep training, didn't even have time to return to the dorms.

"Can't I go back to sleep?"

Leon mumbles as I drag him to his feet.

"No, to become powerful you have to be willing to sacrifice a few things."

He groans and slaps his cheeks to wake himself up.

"Hey, where are the other two?"

"Unlike someone they woke up early and went to lesson."

"Fine, I'll go put my uniform on."

Just then a shiver went down my spine as if it was slowly turning to ice.

A sudden aura burst forth causing the very fabric of the universe to tremble, I don't know whats approaching, but it's coming straight for us.

"Leon, keep your armour on and evacuate the academy."

Leon went to turn around but by that point it had already tackled me.

By the time it slowed down and slammed me into the ground we were in the Academy's central courtyard.

I layed there for a moment drenched in blood. I dragged myself to my feet and looked at my assailant.

The thing was over seven feet tall with two-foot-long horns protruding from the side of its forehead like the horns of a demonic ram. Its face had no muscle or skin, only showing pitch black bones with a bright scarlet light coming from inside the skull. Its body appeared to have black leathery skin over several layers of lean muscle and a pair of leathery black wings on its back. A strange black miasma spread up its arm and across its body, somehow standing out against its dark skin. The monster had four arms, each ending in a hand with claws in place of fingers.

"Fuck."

Looking at this thing I feel my sweat drip down my face and my knees turn to jelly.

"Allow me to introduce myself. I am the demon lord Baal, servant to Satan of the seven great demon gods and you appear to have become a threat to my master's new vessel. Allow me to dispose of you now."

Baal pointed one of his claws towards me while his voice which sounded like a pile of gravel being thrown in a washing machine rang throughout the courtyard.

"Prepare yourself, boy, very soon you will be dead."

This isn't good, if I fight him here the rest of the academy's students will be at risk.

I draw my scythe and don my cloak.

The world falls away into a starry night on the same moonlit lake I tore Edgars mind apart on.

"Oh no, this won't work on me."

He claps his hands and the world shatters.

Just what the hell are this guy's stats?

[Entity beyond the system, cannot appraise.]

Shit.

Baal appears right in front of me and slams his fist into my jaw, launching me hundreds of metres into the air.

I feel my jaw explode in a bloody mess.

I begin to fall back down to the ground where he's waiting.

I create a gravitational force to pull me into one of the spires of the castle.

Baal beats his wings and rises to my level.

Just then I hear screams from, across the academy, what the hell is going on today?

(POV Change)

I sense Arthur's magic is fighting right now. I need to help.

I set off running down the corridor to finde Circe to assist me.

I hadn't searched for long as I ran into her as I rounded the corner.

"Circe, Camelot is under attack, find Maya and get her to summon that arcane dragon, we'll ride it to Arthur's side!"

"We've got bigger problems, the academy is under attack by a demon lord known as Baal and Leon returned from the forest this morning and claimed to have passed an entire army made up of goblines, trolls and other monsters! We need to defend the academy!"

"We need to assist the King in defending the people! These are all nobles born to protect the people so protect the people we shall!"

"No, I'm staying here, this is where my students are, where my friends are, I'm not risking all of this for a bunch of strangers!"

"So be it."

I set back off to find Maya.

I must save the Arthur and the people.

My mind flashes back to a moment decades ago when I met some nameless common boy. A time when I only lived for the sake of gaining power over death.

"Hey, why do you practice magic?"

"I have a goal and for it, I need power."

"Could, you teach me magic?"

"Why the hell would I teach you magic?"

The boy continued to pester me for hours about teaching him. I eventually broke and taught him magic as his master and eventually became his advisor after he became a noble and eventually king before retiring to this academy.

I never did acomplish my goal, but I no longer needed to.

I wished for the power to return what I lost, but Arthur was able to do it all on his own without magic.

"I'm coming, my son."

(POV Change)

I need to help Amon, but I can't I'm far too weak.

I send a ball of dark flame towards the enemy in the sky only for it to be dispelled before even coming close.

"Circe, Defend the academy from the small fries, I'll handle this one! That's a direct order! Don't you dare die!"

The little bastard, an order direct from a royal for something I would have done anyway.

You better survive too. You damned prince.

(POV Change)

"Maya, I've finally found you!"

I turn to see Master Merlin running up to me, Maria and Leon who just arrived.

"Summon that dragon we need to get to Camelot, it's under attack."

"So's the academy, we can't just abandon people who need to be saved!"

Leon cuts in.

"There are more people in Camelot who also need to be saved, most of whom can't defend themselves properly! You said you wanted to be a hero, well what would a hero do Leon, because you can't save everybody?!"

Leon looks down at his feet.

"Amon's fighting alone up there and he's our friend, we can't just leave him."

Maria gives her opinion on what we should do.

"No, Merlin's right, we should go to the Camelot. We'll just be in Amon's way and the people there need more help than the ones here."

Forgive me Amon, it looks like I can't fight by your side this time.

I summon Draig who's grown considerably to be about twice the size of a large bear and we mount his back and set off for Camelot.
