Chereads / Desolate Monarch / Chapter 28 - Winning Three Bets

Chapter 28 - Winning Three Bets

Th-this... is not counted. I didn't even start! "

" The same thoughts also cross my mind. My luck was decent."

"It was that way! Haha, what a flexible guy. So instead of going hunting, let's go on a treasure hunt. I scattered a few blood-cloth strips all around this area. You will win if you can locate three of them before the sun rises the following day. If you lose, I'll succeed."

"Fine."

"I guess I'll start getting ready for dinner now. Huhu."

This time, the Escort felt confident and was convinced Ricky would fail.

"Fortunately, it's a bet I know."

Ricky knew enough beforehand about this bet.

" According to my memory, it is said that the Escort would give a useful treasure if you manage to win twice."

He didn't stop at the first gamble for a reason at all.

He once tortured a man who had prevailed in two bets against the Escort.

The events that took place were described in great detail in his history, and after the guy won twice, he was given the " Shard of Fire."

A mid-ranking fire spirit that could spit out an endless supply of flames was found inside the Shard of Fire.

What would happen, though, if he triumphed in all three bets?

Even Ricky was a little curious because there weren't even rumors about somebody who had won three times.

Taking a magical object, Ricky called Hachi.

Find the scent of the dark elf that is on the ground and stay away from areas with a lot of mana, Hachi.

Arf! Arf!

The previous winner of this wager searched for the fabric using a tracking ability, but Ricky had the Hachi.

Hachi was an expert at tracing and locating locations with mana.

It had a highly developed smell compared to a regular dog and could detect the slightest difference in scent.

He was able to get here safely in large part because of Hachi.

The exploding magic traps were the issue. I'll perish if I manage them incorrectly.

The Escort detested defeat to the hilt.

Over losing, he would rather watch Ricky die.

Sadly, Hachi was able to evade them and just locate the red fabric pieces.

Muyoung knocked on the Escort's door an hour later.

"Huh? Are you already giving up? "

" Three blood-cloth. I collected them."

"What...?"

The Escort looked at Ricky's hand while blinking his eyes.

There were precisely three red cloth strips.

"Hu..."

"Will you also declare this bet as not counted ?"

"That's not it, I used stealth magic on these materials. Just seeing that you've already located them is unexpected."

"If you'd like, I can also do the next bet."

" Are you for real!? "

The Escort applauded.

He couldn't lose like this because of his dignity.

"Let's have you hide when the sun comes up tomorrow, and I'll try to find you."

" Are you gonna utilize magic? Because if it's a yes then finding me should be simple."

"I promise not to use magic skills during this bet, in the name of Lugh! I'll just look for you using my natural physical abilities."

"How long must I remain hidden?"

"If I can't locate you by sunset, I'll concede defeat. What do you say? "

"Good."

It was essentially a game of hide-and-seek, and Ricky was most confident playing it.

Although it won't be as good as what he was able to do before, he could trick one blood elf.

After the day was over, Ricky entered the forest.

He found a good tree and climbed it, closing his eyes and slowing his heartbeat.

"Be a part of nature."

There were many levels of stealth.

One may become one with nature at will if they practiced as intensely as Ricky.

But it seemed doubtful that he could evade the blood elf for very long without a trained body.

Fifty-fifty.

He even restricted the mobility of his organs because he was staking everything on that fifty-fifty probability.

Even unconscious actions that any living thing would make were under his control.

Previously, he was able to move while in this position, but right now, the Escort would catch him if he made even the tiniest movement.

Ricky is so fluid, much like how the river is flowing.

Some time has passed.

And... It was time for dinner.

Thud!

As soon as the predetermined period had ended, Ricky jump down from the tree.

He then entered the Escort's home and began to consume the prepared food as soon as the Escort unlocked the door.

"What brings you here?"

Gulp!

He replied, "They say it's easy to miss what is in front of you," after swallowing the chicken he had just forked.

Although he didn't leave the forest, he gave the impression that he did.

Ricky had always been most confident when he is concealing himself.

Due to the unique qualities of blood elves, the Escort never imagined losing, yet as soon as he made this bet, his chances of winning are not certain.

The Escort didn't know this, so he looked about the area where he thought Ricky would hide.

His legs trembled as he became aware of this.

"... It's my loss."

He finally admitted defeat after that.
