'Listen to the silence because it's always saying something.'
I drive home that day not knowing how I feel.
On one part I feel like am the crazy one to be thinking that my twin sister, someone we shared a womb is up to nothing good to me but on the other part I try to find what she gained in snooping in my life and find nothing.
But again having two people that I consider my closest friend warning me about her, is raising a lot of red flags in my head that I am not able to ignore.
I feel like bouncing my head somewhere and get the shit in it out.
Am confused, I don't know where I even want to stand.
I sigh tiredly not from the weekend I just had with my boyfriend but from the all-savannah thing.
I reach home and walk inside, the house is awfully quiet. I start thinking that maybe everyone is out but I hear footsteps on the stairs.
I turn and smile at my mother.
"Hey, mom."
"Lily Samantha." She calls smiling at me before she calls me in to go in her arms which I walk into.
"Well, sweetie if it isn't for how happy I am for you." She says as we pull away and I frown. I don't think I have done something to make her feel happy.
"What do you mean?" I ask and her smile widens as she brings her hand and cups my left cheek in her palm.
"Sweetie am very happy that you are back at doing sleepovers with your friends. When we came here I started getting scared for you, you detached yourself from everything and it looked like the only thing you wanted to do was be at the embassy. It made me feel bad when I thought that maybe me and your father stole your life but I am really happy that you didn't let coming here affect your life." She says and I realize where she is coming from.
'Only Mom, only if you knew that am coming from a sleepover with my handsome, manly boyfriend and not just a sleepover with friends.'
But man, that is a story for another time.
"Well, I had a very good time last night too. I realized I have been missing out on something."
'Of never considered having a boyfriend before.' Except I don't say that to her.
She smiles and pulls me back in her arms for another hug.
"Oh my sweetie Lily, you don't know how that makes me feel." I hug my mother but surprisingly I don't even feel the guilt anymore of lying.
I had a good time plus Kai being my boyfriend at the very top doesn't mean he isn't my friend.
He is been the first friend I made when we got here without even realizing it.
After the talk with my mother, I walked to my room and did some learning as my handsome boyfriend advised me to.
Mom told me she was home with Dad but he had to step out to get her the white chocolate she was craving and none of my siblings was around.
It's past three hours of studying when there is a knock on my room door.
I tell the person at the outside to come in.
"Sav." She waves her hand at me with a smile before she gets in.
She comes to me and hugs me tightly before she sits down on my bed.
"Funny, how I missed you." She says and I smile.
"Funny, how dramatic you are being," I say jokingly back to her and it makes her chuckle.
"Funny, how mean you are being." She shoots back and I smile.
She looks at the books in between my legs and then comments.
"Fighting for the top grades like always?" She asks and I nod.
"Like always," I reply and she nods.
"Please don't tell me you went over at the Rwema's house to study too?" She asks and I try not to laugh at her pronunciation of Leila and Lucas's last name because it's not like I can do better than her if I were to try.
But I still smirk before I ask.
"What do you think?"
"You are joking, Sam?" She looks horrified as if that's the last thing on her mind someone could ever do while doing a sleepover or say to her I remember her going there so I try asking her about it trying to test the waters.
"So, I heard you came there in the morning but never found me? What? you also wanted some group studying with us?" She waves making an annoyed expression on her face.
"Not even in my nightmare, I came with Brianna before we headed for the practice, I don't know what she wanted to say to Lucas and then I met Leila we conversed a little, that girl!" She pauses in her words. "That girl is pretty cool. You have to make us friends." She says and I just smile.
'Well, her explanation sounds good to me but I don't know why there is still a red flag in my head.'
"How is the practice going?" I ask trying to change the subject from what already happened.
She beams happily before she goes all about it to me.
We dive into the practice of how she is killing it and how she is being praised by everyone for her talent for acting and memorizing the lines.
Yarrow joins our conversation too when he gets home.
"Well hello there lovely ladies." He says peaking his head inside the room before he fully walks in.
He comes to me and hugs me before kissing my forehead.
"How is my favorite person doing?" He asks and I just smile at him before I reply. "Good."
He nods and then jumps on the bed, totally folding my books about tearing them in pieces.
"For God's sake yarrow." I cry not believing he did what he just did. Sav just smacks her lips together annoyedly.
"Just don't understand how you tolerate this over here to be in your room." She says pointing her hand to Yarrow who smirks at her before replying.
"Are you mad you are not my favorite person sav?" He asks her and she rolls her eyes in reply.
"Am grateful I only got to deal with your dumb ass as my sibling only, can't afford to have you being obsessed with me either." She says and I just smile at how they are always bickering at one another.
"Sam, am leaving deal with this alone. We will catch up later." She says and stands up before walking out of the room.
"I think Sav got some worse issues that need to be attended to or something worse is happening." He says as soon as she closes the door after she steps away.
I turn to look at my brother as I quirk my eyebrow at him.
'Not you too yarrow.'
He looks at me and nods his head looking serious, something that he rarely does in his whole life.
"Better watch your back for your own sake."
"Better watch your back for your own sake."
The sentence stays in my mind the whole weekend.
What is it that other people are catching wrong in sav that I am not getting?
I try to be close to her the whole week and even make stops at her practice because technically I have the whole time in the world that I could ever get because am not allowed to go the embassy to work or worse to even go say hi to my boyfriend but I still miss something abnormal with Savannah.
She seems fine with me living her best life.
I almost feel myself sigh a relieved breath and thank the heavens for being with me and allowing me to finally end the week and come to Saturday.
I wanted the week to end badly, first because it was the exam week, and second, I badly missed my man and I wanted the Saturday to come so I could get to him.
First thing on Saturday morning, I drive to Kai's suite.
Today I remembered to wear fewer clothes so that when I get the chance to be touched, there better not be any form of cloth between his hands and my skin.
I wore a strapless black top that reached mid-waist with a short white skirt that reached my thighs I ended with white sneakers.
I am coming for my man.
But something of him touching me and having a boundary between us is what I don't want anymore.
I walk into the hotel as soon as I get there, I want to run because I feel like my legs can't walk any faster but that will make me look crazy. I just try to walk normally and faster at the same as I can.
I pass by the reception and I hear someone calling me, I want to ignore them and get to my man but an old lady stops me.
"Darling, I think that young man over there is calling you." I turn to the reception and sure to the old lady's words.
A man I don't know waves me over with a smile on his face.
I turn to the old lady and smile at her. "Thank you, ma'am," I say and she nods.
I walk back to the reception and nod at the guy.
"Good morning."
"Hey, good morning beautiful." He says and I frown, he better not have called me over for him to just annoy me with him trying to flirt with me.
"What did you want?" I ask and he smiles.
"Why the rush baby girl, are you in a rush to meet someone?" He asks and I feel the annoyance circulate everywhere in my body.
I don't have time to deal with this or worse time to bicker back with him.
"Well, I will be leaving if you have nothing important to say," I say and turn to leave but he replies.
"Hey, wait. It's about Trenton."
'The Trenton that I know of or it's about another I don't know of?'
I turn feeling all the alarms in my head in awake functioning mode.
'What? Did something happen to him and I wasn't notified of it.'
"What about Kai?" I say and he smiles.
'Speak up boy, there ain't anything to smile about here.'
"So he goes by the name of Kai with you." He says nodding his head like he just figured something new.
"Interesting and sweetie."
He says but at this point, I am starting to get angry.
Am not here to joke and play around with whoever I don't know.
"Could you stop whatever shit you are playing here and say what happened to Kai?" I snap at him before I continue asking.
"Where is he? What happened to him?"
"Gee, lower your voice girl everything is fine with your man." He says and I purse my lips in confusion.
How does he know he is my man?
I don't want to raise any alert by asking because that would be me confirming and maybe he might be guessing, who knows?
So I chose the only option that feels wise at the moment, which is to ignore the man and just focus where my attention is needed.
"Then what about Kai?" I ask and he signs me to get closer to him.
I frown but I still do because I want to know what is up so badly.
"I want to plan something with you for his birthday, anyway, am his best friend I don't think he has ever introduced me and I don't think he has it in his plan either way. Am Joshua the one and only you haven't heard of." He says bringing his hand forward for a shake.
I want to feel cautious about the man but the fact that he knows Kai's birthday is very soon proves that he might be want he is saying he is.
So I bring my hand in his and shake it.
"Samantha," I say and he smiles before bringing my hand up to his lips and laying a kiss on it.
"Nice to meet you, Samantha, so are you ready to throw an extravagant birthday party for your man?" He asks sending a wink my way and I don't want to lie but I am starting to think coming over to talk with this man was bringing huge trouble to me.
He seems to be nothing like Kai and I wonder what kind of a thing he and I are about to do.
